Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / support page / reporting Web Site

Promises. Promises.
Promises made; promises not delivered on.

I won't believe that even IF /WHEN it is up online.

Frankly, that response is meant to BUY PLANET TIME to figure out how to fix the Cosmo's cascading problems.

Sad to say this - Planet has a failing, trouble-plagued device in its Cosmo. I regret backing it.

Looking back, my Gemini is a reliable (LOL) device even though many promises (such as a fix to stop it from shutting down suddenly when on a phone call) have been made and remain unfulfilled many months since first reported and acknowledged by Planet (last late June).

IMHO, the Gemini is an orphan. Abandoned at the city gate as prey for Gyppos....

ANTIVIRUS?

Yes, you need a mobile suite of AV software.

NONE provided by Planet Computer.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Poor battery life
« on: November 30, 2019, 04:06:48 pm »
My Cosmo's battery bleeds out like a guillotined French nobleman.

"Lucky" if it makes 12 hours JUST ON and little used.

Planet had the audacity to tell me that my battery performs better than all the Cosmos in their offices!

WTH?!

P.S. I regret backing this novel and severely dysfunctional thing.

My PoS Cosmo halves the home screen display (before it DIED) as a black band.

Only tapping home screen and AGAIN selecting the same, dang wallpaper background does it display properly.

Until the next time (post charge seemingly).

Not sure why - but when I try and apply a live wallpaper - after a period of time, it seems to reset to the stock wallpaper?
Anyone else seeing this?

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Start, restart looping...
« on: November 30, 2019, 03:56:45 pm »
IMHO this Cosmo, my device, is a lame, buggy PoShite.

After charging it this morning because the battery bleeds out and dies as if it was beheaded, the dang thing powers on, says 'hello', displays starting up and then shuts itself down as I open the cover.

It seems to not complete booting up.

Opening the cover (the display is blank / DARK / no splash), the device shuts down and repeats the same nonsense.

IF / when it might display the unlock / enter pin keypad (after entering pin) and opening the cover, the PoS reboots and the loopiness begins anew.

Cannot get into it...

My Cosmo is useless.

IMHO, Planet cares naught. They are deluged with support email over the Cosmo's myriad flaws.  to which I added this loopy BS.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Launchers... From Worst to Best

NOVA Launcher

I used and liked the paid for "pro" version of Nova Launcher in my Gemini.

However, now I find it less than optimal on my Cosmo, such that I have reluctantly UNinstalled it.

What say you?

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Disabling Android Features
« on: November 13, 2019, 09:06:31 am »
How to remove the annoying, monstrous home page footprint of the "search" bar?

Well, I disabled Google and that removes its search bar.

HOWEVER, disabling Chrome DOES NOT remove its search bar (and leaves one without a decent browser).

WTHeck?!

Any how-to git'er done and gone instructions are WELCOMED!

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / USB-C
« on: November 13, 2019, 09:00:36 am »
Left and/or right side USB-C port charging?

Page 8 in the Cosmo Quick Start Guide (LOL), USB-C Ports, shows "R" right side with "regular charging".

However, it also says "Only specific combinations of left and right USB-C functions available."

WTH does that implied limitation / restriction (CYA) caveat mean?

My Cosmos DOES NOT charge through the right side USB-C port.

I guess that is what that asterisk means.

Since the first full charge (through PumpFast, left side) my Cosmo, which shows 100% full afterwards, DRAINS POWER and sinks rapidly down to zero like a submarine with screen doors taking on water.

Seriously.

The first full charge lasted 23 hours with the device ON.

The second full charge lasted 18 hours....

NOW, the 3rd and fourth full charges have not lasted more than 12 hours (with Cosmo ON and with limited use) before it drains to ZERO.

BTW, using the supplied (cheap?) USB charger plug, my Cosmo heats up. However, it does not heat up when charged using an "expensive" USB charger plug that I bought for use with my Gemini that did the same thing - get WARM when charging. Using that $$ charger plug, neither device heats up.

Weird that, yes?

Cheers.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Locked out and helpless
« on: November 13, 2019, 08:36:13 am »
Sorted it out. Thnx.

BIG QUESTION: Why must one enter their PIN twice before using their Cosmo?

PIN required or entered through the cover display keypad AND then again after swiping up the open device?
That is redundant (and unnecessary), yes?

Seems that after entering my PIN through the cover display, there is a keypad on the opened display that asks for one's
personal security password that is NOT the same as the PIN.

So, I am locked out.

it is the same as the pin. If you think you found a bug, please report it to planet.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Well, I'm bloody annoyed

AND that is why I uninstalled my pro nova launcher!

I know, silly me to think I could get the same setup on the screen as the Gemini, but hope springs eternal.

The Fn + C/V keys allow for sizing the display, which on the Gemini I had set to a custom 288 - but Cosmo will only let me go to 300.

Why does this matter? Well, the bloody android "software buttons" insist on being on the right-hand side orientation, and not even NovaLauncher will be able to change that, as far as I can tell.
So now I have the Back/Home/Whatever buttons on the right side, in the bloody way of anything I use that goes to the right edge of the screen. Irritating as hell.

I'll wait for further guides before going on a mega-rant, perhaps there is a way to do it and I'm not aware of the exact method -- but there bloody well better be, or this thing is going on the gadget pile of shame, really quickly.

Also, why the hell the keyboard backlight doesn't stay on when I'd love it to is something else I'd love to know how to change.

I wouldn't mind rolling the Cosmo back to the Android rev I had on the Gemini to get my screen rez back, but I'm not holding my breath for that kind of radical solution.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Latest updates on Indiegogo
« on: November 11, 2019, 01:37:39 pm »
Surprised by UPS email advising delivery Nov. 8th.
Cosmo (perk backer 80#) received Friday evening, the 8th.

Frankly, I am underwhelmed by it.
Perhaps I will, in time, explain why that is....

BTW, some thin-skinned, shite-head and self-appointed moderator? protector? of Planet has (again) blocked my commenting access to the Cosmo Indiegogo page.

So, I cannot post there.

Cheers.

Update From:

Customer Care (Planet Computers)
Sep 4, 12:53 WEST

"Unfortunately, we have not yet been provided with information on when there will be a fix. All we can say and know is that both Planet and Mediatek are looking into the issue to try and find a fix for it.

As it stands right now, reverting to Android 7 would the best stable choice.

We're sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Kind regards,
Customer Care Team"

...and so it goes from nice toy to useless (as a cell phone) POS.

Ditto the same issue exactly.

My Gemini is now USELESS as a cell phone.

Planet says to revert back to Android 7 (from upgrade 8) until they release a fix soon.

We know what 'soon' means in Planet Speak....!

Mine has recently started to "turn off" as well. However, it does not appear to have anything to do with the battery level. It has only happened when I have been using the phone... After a couple of minutes the Gemini suddenly is dead, requiring a Esc long-press to come back to life.  Still on 7...

Hi guys,

I am using mi Gemini as my daily driver. I use Android, because it seems to be only full featured OS so far.
Recently I noticed strange behavior.

My Gemini is sometimes randomly turning off. It happens when battery is about 38%. But it happened about 30% too. But never when batter was full.
If device is in idle mode, it is OK. But when I am doing something - browsing in Firefox for example, or in the middle of call with someone - Gemini screen just turns black. Then I must turn it on by long pressing "On" button. It boots up Android. And if I do same thing (run Firefox) right after boot, it mostly crashes to black screen again. If I wait for few minutes after boot it is in most cases OK (for some time), sometimes I must charge battery and then it is OK.

Anyone with same issues? Or any thougts? From mine point of view it seems to be some problem with battery or with Gemini itself. Because it happens only on energy-intensive activities (which I suppose having phone call or running big app like Firefox is).
