Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / Data and Messages on Gemini PDA not working
« on: February 15, 2024, 12:33:00 pm »
Hi!

I have asked already on forum.sailfishos.org, but did not get a solution.

I would like to revive my Gemini PDA to log data and send results as messages. Unfortunately, data transfer and messages via mobile network don’t work. I can make phone calls, though.

Sailfish version is now 4.5.0.24, but I had the same problem with 4.5.0.19.

I can enable “Mobile data”, but there is no symbol left to “4G”.

I have tried to use the same settings as with my Xperia, but e.g. I could not set the message center to “01…”,145

I do not see a section "SIM cards" in settings.

When doing a manual network search and selecting the correct network, I get “Problem with connection”. This is working fine on my Xperia.

I would guess that this is somehow related to the dual SIM feature of the Gemini. But, I have selected the physical SIM slot on the Android side.

Regards,
Dietmar

I have received mine some time ago but have no use for it. I did hope for good Sailfish support, but that will never happen.

The auction is running until Wednesday December 13th evening.

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / HDMI out: sound quality
« on: April 11, 2020, 08:38:15 am »
Hi!
Yesterday I connected my Cosmo to the TV via the official HDMI adapter.
(On Android)
It did work but the sound quality was way too bad for music. It sounded more like the built-in speakers...
Did anyone observe the same or a better sound quality?

Dietmar

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / SD Card?
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:21:00 pm »
Hi!

Can anyone confirm that Micro SD cards are working with the community preview?
I have checked the usual mountpoints, but could not find my card.

If it's working:
 - what is your card size and format?
 - where is it mounted?

Dietmar

What is the situation with the space bar on the latest production batches?
I have a german layout, so my Gemini is from the third batch or so.
Generally, the keyboard is fine, but the top left area of the space bar is rather unresponsive...

Hold Fn + Esc for a few seconds.

The Esc key is labeled accordingly.

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / First time Sailfish user... Questions

Do you see the ring when you re-boot or open the device? Try to swipe from the left or right edge the screen. I have the same problem.

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / unlocking the screen?
« on: June 25, 2018, 02:27:24 pm »
If you're not sure whether you started configuration from the language screen or the PIN / dialer, then I would suggest to flash Sailfish again to be sure you start from the right screen.
Remember: if the initial screen is black, try to unlock it with a double-tap into the welcome and language selection page. If you can unlock only with the ESC key into the dialer, you're in the wrong screen and need to re-boot.
See the images on the Sailfish OS notes page http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Sailfish_OS_Notes

In my final, successful configuration, I did not skip anything (i.e. I did set-up WIFI and Jolla Account and did complete the tutorial). At first I skipped e.g. the tutorial and Wifi. Not sure whether this really had an influence.

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / unlocking the screen?

I seem to be stuck with the G only showing the date and time, a dialler if I swipe left, wallpaper choice if I swipe down, and camera if I swipe up.

can't seem to do anything else.
Is this with the Planetcom triple boot image?
When you ran the installation on the first boot, did it start from the welcome and language selection screen or did the PIN keypad show at the beginning?
(Upper vs. lower image on the Sailfish OS notes page: "... as otherwise the setup configuration is known to not complete properly.")

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / SFOS Whats working / What isn't

Is there any confirmation were getting AlienDalvik? I know SFOS has partnered with Planet for SFOS 3 so I was hoping this was true.
And do you mean buy the Gemini or buy an AlienDalvik license?

The Sailfish OS 3 page lists "Android support version upgrade" as one of the features.
I would think that a commercial version of Sailfish OS without Android support does not make sense.

The question is more what the long term plan for Android support is. Alien Dalvik will never support anything more recent than Android 4. Maybe Anbox or something similar can be used at some point in future.

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / SFOS Whats working / What isn't

I have installed the new triple-boot with SFOS.
Thanks a lot for the hints on your page.
The Page.qml file has changed a bit.
The required modification to enforce landscape is now:
 allowed = Orientation.LandscapeInverted | orientation === Orientation.Portrait | orientation === Orientation.PortraitInverted
to:
 allowed = Orientation.LandscapeInverted

I observed some issues with the new image:
  • When you end with a black screen during the initial boot after installation, try to double-tap the display to wake it up. If that works, you should see the welcome or language selection screen. Everything is fine…
  • If that does not work, you probably can wake up the black screen with the ESC key, but it will show the number pad. As written in the Sailfish OS notes: if you see the number pad at the beginning, then you have to re-boot and try again…
  • And if you just see the rotating circle after booting or unlocking: swipe from the left or right edge of the screen to the center. Otherwise you may have to wait for some 10s to many minutes...
I have been using SFOS for several years now. The quick evaluation on the Gemini has confirmed my estimation that SFOS from a usability point of view is the only OS that matches the Gemini. It's much nicer to use than Android and it's years ahead of Debian for a touch device.
From a commercial Sailfish OS 3 we can expect Android App support.
If it would also allow at least to build and run gtk Linux applications, then it would convert the Gemini to the perfect Smartphone and PC / productivity device. If not, then you probably have to decide for one of these two roles and boot the suitable OS every time or go for text based applications.
