Yes, I've tried the Flight Mode, Wifi Off, Do Not Disturb tips and my Cover Display is still not flashing.

There's a function to flash it manually, but where are the downloaded firmware files stored? I'll probably try deleting and re-downloading them first, if I can find them (No, they are not in Downloads).

However, frankly, it should not make any difference. I have done two CoDi updates and DND + flight mode have made the flashing go through just fine after a few tries.

OK, it works. For general reference, here's the sequence of events

• Download the 2 files to /Dowmload (don't try this from Google Drive, it won't work)
• Airplane Mode ON
• Open Codi Assistant
• press Advanced
• Select Flash Image manually
• Navigate to /Download and select the Firmware file, not the Resource file
• At this stage you get thrown back to the desktop with the message that Codi Assistant keeps crashing. Ignore it. it is actually still running.
• Re-open Codi Assistant
• Press Flash Now
• Spend the next twenty minutes in silent prayer.
• Airplane Mode OFF

My working theory is that Codi Assistant was stuck on an incomplete download. By pointing it to a valid set of files I managed to clear that problem.

It's worth it. My Cosmo is running MUCH cooler and it looks like the battery will last better.

Hello Very new to here or for the matter any Site.
i purchased the cosmo communicator A few days back. Updated the firmware to V25. and the CODI is not working i have tried every step in the book. Form all the diffrent webistes. Got in touch with planet computers. They told me to send the device back. i did that also but the device is returned with CODI opretional. I have seen a lot of people are stuck but eventually got it done.
 i am trying your said method. Can you expalin it a little mre breif as i am completly noob in doing things like this.

Hi, I am a newbie, got the Cosmo last week.
I was lost in many semi-automatic updates (incl. fully automatic, unwanted, unsolicited google bloat-like-ware updates)
but failed with only one -  last one, the CoDi update.

The most important action that helped was to Clear cache and storage in App info.
Below is all text was sent to me by the support team of Planet Computers.

I did all steps except Force stop (Codi Assistant seems to be unstoppable on my rooted phone, unrooted as well)
and it works!
Maybe it is final version of CoDi Flashing guide?  :-)


Freshly restart your Cosmo.

Go to your Apps screen and find **Cover Display.**
Hold down **Cover display** and go into **App Info

FORCE STOP.**

Scroll down the Screen and click on **Storage**.

**CLEAR CACHE**... **CLEAR STORAGE**.

Then the following steps:

1. Check for updates from the Cover Display Assistant app

2. Begin the update process, and as soon as the device gets into flashing mode, enable "Airplane mode" from the notification menu.

3. Stay on the flashing screen without moving away. This may take up around 20 minutes, and the system may timeout, retry.

I updated the firmware of my Codi and it bricked.

I tried upgrading again a good 50 times. Sometimes it'd crash right away, sometimes it'd say "update complete", but then the cover would still display the "no communication" icon.

I tried all the things in the thread, setting my phone in airplane mode and such, clearing data and cache, doesn't do anything.

I tried downloading the firmware and using that, the app crashes as soon as I select the files. I tried loading the files from internal storage, and from SD Card. Contrary to the experience of a user above me, the app doesn't propose "flash" when I reopen it, only "upgrade" (which tries to download from the web). I tried selecting either of the two files.

Tried all of the above in Android rooted and Android non-rooted, no difference.

At a loss for options, I flashed my whole phone again, installed Android rooted and KDE again from scratch, after a format, and it changed nothing at all.

Oh yea, something new: trying to press "upgrade now" throws an immediate "Download Error". Seems like maybe the servers are down, or maybe my Cover Assistant decided it's not even worth trying to download, I don't know.

I'm at a loss for options and open to any suggestion, as long as I keep Rooted Android and Linux (that's why I use this phone, it's useless to me if it works only with non-rooted Android). I'm willing to test installing just normal Android for a spin and update the cover from there, but I feel it's not gonna be fruitful.

Sounds like like you've tried everything reasonable and suggested in this thread including the usual do not disturb and flight mode tricks etc. 
If you can't find anything else to try from the various threads in the CoDi subforum it may be time to reach out to Planet support:  hello@planetcom.co.uk

I know its a little late by now, but i just got my Cosmo yesterday and without thinkin twice i tryed to update my CoDi aswell. And what happend was exactly like yours, in the end i only got an error when trying to download. But the manual mode allways crasht.
And here is where i fund the solution: you need to copy the files to the root of your internal storage, they should not be located in the Downloads folder. With the files in the root i mean what shows up when you open the normal files application and chose the internal storage. you dont need real root access.
If you chose the files from there the updater will not crash on selecting them.

(Note that on https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Latest_Cosmo_Firmware#Manual_CoDi_firmware_update is older version V1.1.1.14 of firmware image, resources are latest)

CoDi Assistant in automatic update mode first flashes resources image (bigger one) and after that it flashes firmware image (smaller one). If flashing any image fails then doing retry start reflashing both images.

In case CoDi Assistant successfully flashed resources image in automatic mode then it is enough to just flash firmware image and no need to reflash big resources again. So in this case it is better to manually flash just firmware image manually via advanced menu.

And as @MarcHover wrote, always store images for flashing into top level storage and not into Downloads directory. CoDi Assistant is unable to read image files from Download directory and crashes.

Hopes this help in situation when flashing procedure successfully flashes resources and repeatly fails in 80% during flashing firmware image.
