Have you asked a phone repair shop if it's repairable?

« on: January 31, 2024, 08:59:22 pm »
The battery I ordered on ebay never arrived btw, so I got a refund on 26 Apr 2022. They said they were sad it didn't arrive and didn't have a replacement to send, so could only offer a refund.

I haven't used my Cosmo since I got my Astro, so it's not a problem for me anymore. But now my Astro's battery is getting a little long in the tooth too =P

It saying it can't write to the error log file is interesting - I imagine that would be on the SD card. Could the SD card be at fault?

If that's not it, I'd try reflashing the whole device with SP Flash Tool according to the wiki.

I believe manufacturers charge batteries to 40% to make them able to sit in the box for the longest period with as little degradation as possible

I just tried in Truecaller, and it has the ability for a custom ringtone

If you can't work it out, another thought is that maybe a third-party dialer app would allow ringtone customisation that doesn't depend on the choice in the OS

Using the folder on the internal storage would eliminate any potential problems with the SD card. I can't really offer any more help with this though, as I don't use ringtones - I've been vibration-only for a decade =P

Astro Slide - Android / Re: Does anyone use Planet Backup with a micro SD
« on: September 19, 2023, 09:59:10 pm »
Having access to a proper app backup solution that can back up all appdata (e.g. Swift Backup) is the main reason I root my devices. Rooting wipes it though, so best done ASAP before setting all your stuff up on the device.

Backups are important, and I don't have enough faith in Planet Computers for many things, let alone trusting them to have a 100% reliable backup app.

Astro Slide - General Discussion / Re: keyboard short cut to force rotate
« on: September 11, 2023, 02:15:37 am »
When you physically rotate the device, there is a little black circle with a rotation icon that appears in the bottom-left corner of the (portrait) screen. Tapping on this briefly engages automatic rotation to set the rotation to whichever orientation the device is in. I find this is the most reliable way of rotating the screen. There is a keyboard shortcut (Fn + Shift + R), but it doesn't always work properly - see: https://github.com/shymega/planet-devices/issues/54

Is it even using grub? Maybe you can mount the Linux partition in Android to fiddle with the grub arguments from there

Yeah, good idea - we should add this to the wiki

I heard someone say a while ago that the slots in the SIM tray are labeled the wrong way around. Try using the physical SIM in the other slot?

In another thread I found this
Never use the `b` partition on the Astro. It's a bit odd in partition structure, but you should be using the 'a' slot - I believe 'b' acts as temporary storage for OTA updates, where the new files are written there, then copied over to the 'a' slot.
Good to know. It also means there never was a "good" partition to try to revert to anyway.

I don't think that is correct. See my writing on how the slots work within the rooting guide. We've proven that when rooting the boot image, the Astro only works properly if you'd read from the active slot.

I ran V25 for ages, and don't recall it being any buggier than previous versions. So I don't think there's a reason it's not available besides some kind of incompetence.

I'll take an image of my Cosmo on the weekend and share the relevant partition images here.
