OpenBSD / Openbsd Install And Fdisk
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:15:34 pm »
Hello! I've been trying to install OpenBSD current on my C3100, and I've been running into some confusion. I've installed OpenBSD a number of times on my laptop, and it's by far the operating system I'm most comfortable with and prefer - so I thought it would be rather simple to install it on the Zaurus.

The problem is, the installation instructions aren't incredibly clear, and I'm having difficulty following them. Perhaps I'm being stupid, but I can't seem to figure this out. I know I have to shrink the third partition, (perhaps to around 30 or 50 MB?), and then run newfs -t msdos /dev/rwd0k, but the instructions aren't incredibly clear. I try to e [edit] it, and type in a new size, then edit the last one to be of type OpenBSD, but it won't let me enter a large size, and then if I continue, more confusion erupts on the next screen.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Clock Applet Colour/font
« on: November 11, 2005, 01:40:14 am »
Is there a way to change the colour of the clock applet in RC12? The font's ok, I suppose, but I'd like to change it if possible. All I really need to do though is change the colour of the time to white, as the vast majority of my Zaurus themes are dark coloured.

I already checked the Matchbox website, but the best thing I could find there was:

Quote
4.2.3. mb-applet-clock

A simple clock.

Wonderfully helpful, isn't it? Anyways, does anybody know if this is possible? Many thanks in advance.

Themes, Icons, and Backgrounds / Black/dark Theme For Sharp Rom?
« on: October 01, 2005, 05:43:21 pm »
Are any black/dark coloured themes available? Are themes for any other GUI compatible with it? I wish it'd let me input my own colours, or use Gnome themes or something. Thanks in advance.

I'm using the stock Sharp ROM on my Zaurus C3100 (want to keep Japanese support), and I've done everything I can think of to get it working. I installed Tetsu's special kernel, Tetsu's kernel module package, bvdd_0.4.0-1_arm.ipk, mplayer-bvdd-iwmmxt_1.1.5-1_arm.ipk, kino2_0.4.3b_arm.ipk, and mplayer didn't work. Crashes with:

Quote
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo).

I then installed libmad_0.15.0b-zports-0_arm.ipk and libSDL_1.2.6-zports-5_arm.ipk, and still no luck. Can anyone let me know if I'm missing any libraries? Wipe it clean and start from scratch? (Not a problem if I have to do that, just got it two days ago)

This is the second time I've attempted to get it working. The other time I followed the instructions here, substituting newer versions where applicable, along with Tetsu's kernel, and that worked out with the same error message. (I wiped the Z after that though and started from scratch for the second attempt)

For Sale / Wanted / Zaurus Stylii To Canada
« on: August 10, 2005, 02:00:58 am »
I've been wanting to order these for a bit now, but the tricky bit is, I've yet to find a site that will actually ship them to Canada. (I'm getting !@$#! sick of all of them refusing to ship here, considering how the majority of the time it could be done fairly easily, contrary to their claims -- but I'm getting off topic.)

Does anybody know where I can get these, or a Pentopia stylus? Anybody have any extras? I can only pay via Paypal or a money order, ruling out the latter Pentopia ones. I'm assuming that all of the Zaurii take the same sized stylus. Many thanks in advance.

EDIT: More specifically, I'm located in roughly central Ontario, and you can e-mail me at harpalus hush ai, inserting @ and . respectively.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus/opie Security
« on: April 18, 2005, 05:28:39 pm »
There doesn't seem to be much purpose to securing your Zaurus via the security plugins, as some simple manipulation can resize the window, rendering Opie perfectly usable. Secondly, I would deem it a necessity to ask the user to set passwords during the first boot. Even if the first bug were to be fixed, the Zaurus is still perfectly usable by cancelling the boot of Opie. The two of these combined lead to some rather poor security, something I hope can be rectified soon. Thanks for your time. [ Invalid Attachment ]

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe Graphics
« on: April 12, 2005, 07:55:06 pm »
What applications similar to the GIMP can be run on the Zaurus 5500, with GPE? Are there any that are optimized for the small screen of the Zaurus? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

General Discussion / Networking Help
« on: March 16, 2005, 11:57:29 am »
My college professor is rather cruel, and I have to design a company network with only minimal knowledge of networking. Could anyone outline the pros and cons of different server types, and the basic costs of each? It would be exceedingly helpful. Should we worry about running FreeBSD, Slackware or similar, or should we go for a server with a warranty? This all has to be cost justifiable and something a sane company would want to purchase. (And no, wireless isn't allowed) Many many thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wireless Problems
« on: March 07, 2005, 05:40:57 pm »
I've been unable to connect to the internet yet on my Zaurus 5500, in Opie, with an Ambicom CF card. The same kind a lot of others use. I've run Wellenreiter successfully, but I can't seem to be able to connect to my home network. (I've been too busy to test it out on an open network) It recognizes the card just fine, I can actually start it, but here's where the problems arise. First off, when connected, the speed is sometimes 1 MBPS, sometimes 2, sometimes 11, but it remains constant, and it will vary when I go to connect. The SSID flashes on and off repeatedly, sometimes with a bunch of garbage, and at other times with the SSID followed by a bunch of garbage. Opera won't connect to anything aside from itself.

I'm wondering if this ties into my second problem, which is DSL. I've been unable to locate a method of entering my username and password. I've added a "modem" account properly, attempted to point it to my wireless connection, with no avail. Is there something terribly obvious that I'm missing? I'm at the point of just giving wireless the finger, and I've tried everything I can think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For Sale / Wanted / Want To Buy: Smac Linux
« on: March 04, 2005, 09:22:24 pm »
I'm interested in purchasing the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack for Linux, released by the now defunct Loki Games. I only really need the CD for it, but if you have the packaging and whatnot, then I'll pay a bit extra for it. I'm not sure of it's worth, so the price will be agreed upon.

If you're wondering about the oddness of this, or why this is not Zaurus related, try looking for this product yourself, and you'll understand why I'm posting here.

EDIT: I'm aware that it the .iso image is easy enough to download through torrent websites, but I'm looking for an actual copy.

EDIT EDIT: Reply or e-mail to harpalus hush ai (insert an @ and ., respectively) if interested.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Porting To Opie?
« on: February 15, 2005, 11:18:04 pm »
How difficult is it to port software to Opie? RPG Names (http://rpgnames.sunsite.dk/) would come in very handy for me, but it's for Qtopia. I have limited space, so even if this works with OZ-comp, I'd still like to port it. Thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Prboom/snes9x
« on: February 13, 2005, 07:31:46 pm »
Has anyone managed to get either PrBoom or Snes9x working in the latest OpenZaurus? I've yet to get barely anything working in it yet. If so, would you mind giving me a simple guide to doing so, including a place to find SDL that works in OZ? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Just a followup that I have all the .wad files from the Collector's Edition Doom, and that I've read all of the forum notices and guides that I've managed to lay my virtual hands on. Oh, and it's the Zaurus 5500.

General Discussion / Language Recommendation
« on: February 08, 2005, 06:38:44 pm »
I originally posted this in the QT/QTopia development forums, but hopefully I can be forgiven for reposting it here, as it's now been a week and a half with only 25 views, no replies.

Anyways, can anyone recommend a language for creating games [mostly RPGs, but who knows] with? My Zaurus is the 5500, with Opie OZ. I'm leaning towards Java, as I'd like it to be platform independant, but can anyone convince me otherwise? A good tutorial link for the language would be very helpful as well. I have past, non-gui experience with Java, and currently studying C in one of my courses, but I'm willing to learn anything. (Don't make me mention Visual Basic)  I'd appreciate any help on this.
