Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Partition Question
« on: October 05, 2023, 09:29:02 am »
Background. I have 3 Planet machines an Astro and a Cosmo both working properly. The Cosmo had a new battery earlier this year and was set up as dual boot when i bought it but I repartitioned to use all the space as android using the recovery menu and re installed it at V23 firmware. All works perfectly and now I sync data and apps between the Astro and the Cosmo so my Cosmo is my semi warm backup device. This spends most of its life powered down and is just powered up,every few weeks to sync its data and apps.
I have a second Cosmo and this is the problem child. It had a hard life and is well used although the battery is ok ,the CODI screen is broken and does not work (don't care as i have it disabled when I play with it) Anyway this was also was set up for dual boot and i decided to reconfigure it using the partition option on the recovery menu and re install the firmware to v23 as that worked when i did it on my other Cosmo. Well this time something when wrong and I got an error partitioning , it formats with no errors on the factory reset but I then get a cant read the partition list when I try to update. Any ideas if this is correctable  or is the Cosmo just spare parts?  I get the recovery menu so bootstrap is ok.

I should add I paid less for it than getting planet to replace the battery so not worth sending to Planet

I see the Astro is fully project treble compliant according to Treble info including dynamic firmware  and Cosmo is compliant but not for dynamic updates. As this means the hardware supplies a standard interface for Google generic system images for Android does that mean it will be possible if PC are not able to do new firmware for Cosmo and astro that it may be possible to make new releases independently? Just thinking especially for Cosmo now and Astro in the future it may give some hope?

Astro Slide - Hardware / Fingerprint sensor
« on: August 04, 2023, 06:21:07 am »
Potentially useful for those not on Discord. Although the fingerprint sensor does not work in apps as at 7b firmware it does work well/reliably for unlocking the Astro for me by using 3 of the 5 fingerprint slots for the same finger. I added this hint on Discord and it helped another Astro user but wanted to add it here for those not on that platform.

Astro Slide - Android / Does anyone use Planet Backup with a micro SD
« on: July 26, 2023, 04:51:41 pm »
Does anyone use Planet Backup with a micro SD and if so how? For me the backup goes through the process completing sizing etc and then it asks for destination and presents two network options but no local SD option. I selected the first option and the connection passes test but then seems to hang. Is there something I need to do with the micro SD card or does it need to be an external SD connected via USB C?

Astro Slide - Android / Recent update 84 on Indiegogo site
« on: July 20, 2023, 05:57:39 am »
Having read the latest update from Planet computers (update 84) on the indiegogo site with the potted history of the Astro from start to now. I realise just how lucky I am to have one of these amazing phones as it looks like only 1600 production models are out there at the moment.

Astro Slide - Android / Biometric option not appearing in apps
« on: July 15, 2023, 03:51:20 am »
Astro is on 7B firmware and logs in with fingerprint reader with issues (4 of the 5 fingerprint slots are the same finger) but when using an app eg Banking or credit cards etc there is no option to switch this on in the app. The same apps worked fine on a cosmo. Any ideas anyone? I have tried restarting, clearing app cache etc.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Update Cosmo to Android 10 or 11
« on: May 25, 2023, 07:09:17 am »
There was talk from planet a year ago that they would issue an upgrade to Android 11 for Cosmo using what was learned with the Astro. Given the delays in the Astro production and the fact Cosmo is still being sold this would make sense. Has anybody heard if this might still happen?

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Planet backup?
« on: April 22, 2023, 04:59:32 pm »
Planet mention a backup in their software but I cannot see it on my Cosmo or on the android go play store under planets software. Am I missing something? In the end I used the android file access to copy files on my Mac and also used google one backup but it would be good if there is an official backup solution from planet.
