According to Akihabara, this is a version of the Zaurus to be released to the Korean market.  I don't think it will be released in Japan.

It is unclear what is on it. Qt: no. PPC: no. Application specific (Picture, MP3, E-Book): yes.

Take a look (most of us can't read korean language but interpret the pictures): [a href=\"http://www.sharp-korea.co.kr/22realdic/product/realdic_prditm.asp?pid=363]http://www.sharp-korea.co.kr/22realdic/pro...itm.asp?pid=363[/url]

I would say: it looks like a reduced Zaurus plus some nice features. Did you see that it has less keys? No HDD? SD only? More predefined active buttons on the screen (left&right) side?

It is not even called a Zaurus. But it shows that the next Zaurus could easily have an integrated camera because they know how to do it.

Maybe, they simply reused some of the mechanics design for the twister display.

It may have very little in common with the current C-xxxx series Zaurii indeed.  Don't forget the 'Zaurus' product line has been through quite a bit of evolution (both in mechanics and in purpose).  At it's roots it was an electronic dictionary.  They may simply be attaching the Zaurus name to this product to express that.

 Kinda like the modern Dodge Charger.  Mechanically speaking it has almost nohing in common with it's predecessor.  But the Name conjurs the image they are trying to evoke...

the biggest thing missing from it is a numeric row of keys - there's only 9 "keys" above the letters, but the pictures are not detailed enough to really see whether these would rock side to side to work as numbers?

I think it's promising news, as it means Sharp are still producing clamshell pda-like devices, and maybe, just maybe, once they've tested the technology, they will enhance the C3xxx or C1xxx series with this one's features, namely:
* camera
* radio
* microphone/s (looks like stereo or echo-cancelling system with two microphones)

I don't understand the language to tell if there are any technical specifications for it, so no word on whether the screen is still VGA, whether it has more memory than a linux Z. It might or might not still be QT/linux based, I hope it is, as there are clearly some new applications such as eBook reader and camera software.

if you follow the links there are more detailed pictures.  The numbers are on a alternate case set on the top most "regular" keys just like the 5x00 and 6000 series.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

I didn't think of looking at the letter keys, I thought that the 6000 had proven that putting numbers as an alt-letter key was dumb. sigh. I guess it's OK for dictionaries, but no good for us power user linux command dudes

no VGA, no camera, no wireless, no CF slot... lame.

so, I wonder what sort of batteries it takes? that might be the only useful thing it does. Hope it takes SL-6000 batteries :-/

WOW! the second link is a zaurus and i wonder how we can translate it.  Does it run qtopia?  I know that my zaurus has optional camera controls and they must of started development on it but most likely stoped the development on it for the next generation.

I see this one has built in stereo speakers, and a camera on the back from the second link.  Very cool.

update- I can already see it does not run qtopia.
