Just rename the magisk  .img to .zip and flash with twrp. the restart fails going to fastboot first, but another off / on brings you to the boot loader as usual. no problems at all.

It is really a shame they do not even provide the stock image for download. Not to talk about AOSP or LineageOS. Why is that?

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Re: Linux Daily Driver Questions
« on: March 28, 2021, 05:21:23 am »
1. Yes. You also need it for blobs for linux (hybris)
2 Even with 100% Linux, the Android system will stay. DO NOT EVER WIPE the device in twrp because there is no android image available for download. As in Sailfish OS devices, the base android firmware has to be on the device.
3. There are many apart of what you mentioned. Syncing numbers is one of them. You can use Thunderbird for exchange and dav sync but those numbers will not show up in the phone app.

For a daily driver the phone delivers - in my opinion - not a good user experience. Under Linux even aweful. Too bulky, too heavy, too buggy. Still, there is no alternative on the market in that small size. My needs are as yours, I am happy with Thunderbird with PGP, Firefox, Hexchat and Telegram. But I still have my Sailfish phone with me for calls and as a hotspot for the cosmo, connman does not work as it should. There are downsides with connman AND with the KDE network manager: First is bad for wifi, the latter does not work for 4G.

no need to open terminal, just click on the battery symbol at the right bottom to change keyboard brightness.

camera is not ipensource and I do not think that it will ever work. Planet Comp does not even open CoDi, yet there is nothing provided to make a custom rom.

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / keep keyboard backlight after closing device
« on: December 26, 2020, 03:53:46 pm »
Dear users
I usually type
echo 42 > /proc/aw9524_led_proc
in the terminal to switch on keyboard backlight in gemian. After I close the lid and reopen it, the keyboard backlight is off again and I have to type that again. Does anyone of you maybe know of a way to keep this permanent or a way to execute that command after opening the device automatically? Like "If open lid, then echo 42 > /proc/aw9524_led_proc"
TIA

I don't think I ever claimed to have rooted Android, though I guess I could put it into my TWRP partition as that's next to useless anyway, it'd lose modem functionality though. The only way I've found to have additional 'slots' on the bootloader is to just manually re-install the rooted Android boot option from the SD card which is obviously a bit rubbish. It'd be nice to have two more slots on the bootloader, for rooted Android and Sailfish OS too, but I don't see how that's possible!

Off course you didn't, no offence, just a statement.
More boot slots would really be great.

I cannot get my simcard running. Any1 can? or it could be my provider.

GPD - Linux OS / GPD Win (1) with Fedora
« on: November 24, 2020, 04:03:05 pm »
I took out my dusy GPD Win 1 device recently an installed Fedora 33 on it. To my surprise it works flawlessly. Performance is almost fantastic. Everything  - from BT, WLAN, touchscreen, HDMI etc. etc. works like a charm out of the box. I never thought this would become my daily driver together with my Sailfish OS device. Really happy.

I can use codi to call people from the missed-call-list. I cannot call anyone in contacts.
But why care - import of contacts does not work anyway, nor are contacts in Linux recogniced by the phone app. Android is outdated. But it works well as a toy phone for my 3 and 5 years old children ;-)

After this one full year I would certainly advice anyone against acquiring this sad device. And am I glad I had enough sense to pull back my impulse contribution to the next "Planet Computers" campaign on idiegogo.

I guess you are not the only one being disappointed. In fact I cannot imagine anyone enjoying this device. Sadly not even androis is updated at all. There in not even the possibility for creating an AOSP port. CoDi is closed. Blobs with libhybris do not work properly. There is not even a download - and flashable Android (original) rom. How could we - "the community" as Planet Computers calls it, develope anything for it?

Well I got a solid install of UB using the steps throughly, bu still ened up wiping Gemian I think. if you were genuinely able to boot Android, Rooted Droid, Debian and UB, I would lke to see it. the only thing I didn'y do is run that last line of code from step 1 in the top post. the only thing i didn't do was the last step of the first instruction post.

Here's a video showing my current setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSw_2ovdBy0

Did you overwrite your Debian boot option with the UBPorts one? You need to put it in another slot.

You have no rooted Android.
I have and as long there is no AOSP android image from Pl. Co .I have to stay rooted for security reasons (blocking google etc)
So eighter Debian or UBports.
Both are not usable as a daily driver, nor is Android because of old security patches and issues.

-Cannot add new user so the device is very insecure

One of the first things I did after installing v3 was add a new user.
https://devconnected.com/how-to-add-and-delete-users-on-debian-10-buster/#Adding_a_user_using_adduser

Then I changed the password of the default user "cosmo" (although I'll probably just delete that account once I get CoDi set up on my new user account).
https://devconnected.com/how-to-change-user-password-on-debian-10/#Change_Another_Users_Password_with_passwd

Thanks a lot!

I also cannot Import vcf contacts, Screen stays white in the Phone App. Any ideas? Tia

I just installed it.
-runs smoother and faster.
-Mouse emulation with CoDi is very sluggish and has no support for right click. So Gemian is still not operateable without a right mouse button.
-mobile network still does not work, even with connman
-Cannot add new user so the device is very insecure
-still no keyboard backlight
-not worth the update imho if you have some programs installed

tried it now: looks quite promising, still alpha, keep the superb work, thx so far.
It did overwrite Gemian though, even I used the script. No problem since both are not usable at the moment:
In ubports: Network (wifi) only works once after reinstalling. After a standby it cannot find any more networks, even after a reboot.
Phone does not work, cannot connect to any carrier / resolving carriers does not work. Mobile data also does not work.
Trying OTA results i  rebooting to fastboot.

thx for the hint and saving me trouble.
afaik I only have two full partitions: android and linux. So I guess I need to delete eighter android or gemian for trying ubports?
