hi linx,

if you have a cf card, just insert it while booting, then the internal drive becomes hdc. i did tht and unzipped tge rootfs and modules manually.

great distro, really! thanks 2or0 this one is what i was always looking for. only glitch i noticed was the middle buttom emulation does not work.

« on: July 29, 2006, 12:01:43 pm »
hi,

i recently acquired an external usb hard disk and now i wonder, if there is support for a high performance filesystem (reiser, xfs) for any of the roms? did someone succeed in patching a kernel?

 thanks,

chris

fn+ stylus opens right click menus.

fn+c copy
fn+p paste
fn+a select all.

thanks for the tip. fn+stylus works, however fn+p gives a } for me and fn+p a <cr>. something seems to be screwed up with my installation ..

X/Qt / 2 Problems With Xqt
« on: March 21, 2006, 01:15:05 am »
hi,

i just bought myself a c3100 and set it up with cacko/xqt/pocketworkstation. it is running fine except 2 problems:
first, tge / key is not working. i tried to set an xmodmap, but it turns out that tge / key actually produces keycode 47, which is the same one as d. so remapping that key wold necessarily remap d (-:. does anyone know, how to handle this?

the second one is more of a standard question i guess. i just need the middle/right mouse button. in fact, i just need a convenient way to copy-paste text. how can i do this in xqt?

oh, and then there is the problem of not cleanly resuming from suspend, but after reading the forums, this seems to be a hard one...

cheers and thanks for any tips.

I asked What do you wish you'd known when you were a newbie, and one of the many great answers was:

2. ...wish you'd done or hadn't...
~ Taken a week or so and try every ROM and then pick a favorite[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=106092\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It is definitely worth doing.  All of the linux distributions (aka ROM images or ROMs for short) serve different purposes, and are worth trying.

The most repeated recommendations were to back up and know the restore process.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=118051\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

thanks, i'll do that :-)

but first i have to buy my 'Z' - can't wait for it now. and it seems there is a grat user community to look forward to!

thanks again for all the suggestions and tips.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Pre-newbie Question

thanks so much for this detailed reply! this is exactly what i hoped to hear.

i don't care so much for qt applications (well, i don't know them yet) and i used to type really fast on that old hp-95 lx i had - fast enough for me at least, i don't need to do word processing. so i guess pdaxrom will be my friend :-)

one question though: you seem to imply that it's possible to natively compile on the zaurus? so under pdaxrom there is gcc available? that would be really cool!

thanks again,

chris

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Pre-newbie Question

hi zaurus ownert!

sorry for this totally newbie question. i am planning to buy a zaurus-sl-1000 and before i spend >$500, i just would like to know, what to expect.

if i add a decent amount of cf/sd memory, is this device more or less a laptop replacement? e.i., can i install/compile a random linux/X/GTK/motif etc. package on it? like e.g. firefox, freeciv, latex, ghostviev, gcc etc? and if it is not prepackaged, do i have a reasonable chance of compiling it myself? or am i limited to qtopia apps and to what is described in the zaurus software index?

thanks in advance!
