SL-6000L, where to start for newb?
« on: January 02, 2021, 12:01:56 am »
I recently inherited a few SL-6000L's. I'd like to know how to:

- Connect to the device and access the command line
- Get my hands on the original disk image (to reset the devices to factory)

Does anyone have the original SL-6000L disk image?
How do I flash it to the device? Maybe via SD?

I'd need to access the CLI to set boot priority to SD, but again, I don't know how to get into the "guts". Would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome!

I'll send you a PM with an archive of the 6000's installation CD. I believe the drivers there have been developed for older versions of Windows, so I'm not sure if they'll work on newer Windows versions as well.

In case the CD does not contain the original disk image: I have done a bit of research, they used to be hosted on externe.net, but they have been removed long ago, archive.org currently only hosts the directory tree and not the archives themselves. The flashing guide is still available there, though: https://web.archive.org/web/20070623234812/http://www.externe.net/zaurus/flash/

Zaurus.org.uk used to host some files for the 6000, here's a mirror of it, there are a couple of NAND backups there: http://storage.atari-source.org/atari/mirrors/zaurus/www.zaurus.org.uk/download/6000/

I'd advise you to make a backup of the current system first, before flashing a new ROM, just in case.

Here on OESF there are many Zaurus-related threads in the Archived section, take a look here for the 6000: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?board=88.0

Hello
And I joined this forum exactly for the same reason.
My hobby is  reviving old unusual electronics and computers
Recently got a hold of barely used sharp zaurus  SL-6000L

Looking at System info > version tab>   the    kenel version  and rom might allready be the latest one
kernel 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix
ROM Vesrsion 1.12

Wanted to wipe it and start with fresh image restore would like  to have the latest available factory update, so I could restore it to factory state and start fresh.

Apparently the  file I am looking for is     20040217SL6V112.zip

Does this mean that my SL6000L is already  on the latest version possible? And I do not need that file?
Would just pressing  the reset  button restore it to factory state?

but unfortunately every link I found to this file is now dead on the whole world wide web
The closest I got was the wayback machine  archive but the zip files are not  archived for download

https://web.archive.org/web/20051023204352/http://zaurus.thegrantclan.org:80/download/zaurus/roms/tosa/

what are the other .gz and . jffs2 files listed there in that folder for?
Hope that  someone here  on this forum stil has these files somewhere  on ther old computers and can post them avaialble for download ?

Thank you
