Sd Card Not Seen Or Mounted
« on: October 03, 2008, 02:57:21 pm »
I have a sl-c1000 with cacko heavy. It works just fine with a variety of 1, 2 and 4 GB SD cards from Sandisk, Transcend and PQI. (I have the SD driver update installed and working that allows greater than 1GB SD cards to be used.

The issue: I have a 4GB SD card I bought off Ebay a while back. It is SD, *not* SDHC, and I have formatted it both Fat and FAT32 in a Vista laptop, the laptop recognizes the card no matter how it is formatted and I can read from, and write to, it successfully.

However, when I insert it into the sl-c1000 I get nothing. It doesn't mount, and it doesn't show in the file manager at all.

A different, plain SD, 4GB card works just fine in the zaurus and the laptop too.

What can/should I do??

Thanks

I suspect the first thing people will want is the output of "dmesg"
SL-C750- pdaXrom beta 1 (mostly unused)
Current distro: Gentoo

I also have one such SD card: See the SD Compat List. Sometimes it works, if you boot with card inserted.

It seems to be related to the kernel version. Distributions based on kernel 2.6 have much less problems and even SDHC cards work.

SD cards can officially support only 2GB, cards marked as "4GB SD" were discontinued.

"Officially", it's true, SD only supports 2GB. But it's possible to get to 4GB and many devices support it. The original zaurus driver prior to the 3100's didn't, but I released modified versions for the 6000 and c7xx a while back

4GB SD cards aren't discontinued, they're just far rarer than the SDHC sort. Heck, I just bought one new a few weeks ago!
SL-C3100 with usb power mod running debian eabi
pdaXii13 still on the NAND for dualbooting
16GB SDHC! (a new one, after I sat on the old one and it went kaput)
D-Link 660 wifi, Socket Bluetooth rev H
External 9800mAh LiIon battery and slimline dvd drive
Homebrew microphone and remote

After inserting the card I ran "dmesg" in the terminal. here's the output:
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: responce time out (cmd=01 mmc_stat=0x2142)
