When, if ever, are people most on IRC? I pop into the chat room here quite often, and nobody is there.

    About accessing the Z via SAMBA from Linux-box (Tue, 01 May 2007 10:48:33 +0100)

Well, that was easy but worth mentioning.

Samba server seems to be already activated on the zaurus, all I did is typing in konqueror:

smb://192.168.1.31 (ip of my z on my intranet) and I get my /home folder.

Interresting to note the speed of transfer for a 5 MB file was 474 KB/s which is quite good I though.

I the put an "link to URL" icon on my KDE desktop and I have a direct link. The z is just seating on my shel with the cover closed and I access and browse my file in Konqueror with previews etc activated, very handy!

I have tried the Look and feel in the start menu but nothing happens

About VNC access to linux station from the Z (Mon, 30 Apr 2007 11:25:13 +0100)

To access my linux-box from the Zaurus, I use tightvncserver from the linux-box and keypebble to acces it from the Z.

I thought I d just share the fact that you can configure the display on the server. The optimum resolution and colour depth for me seems to be 750x400 with 16 for the color depth.

To start the server one just needs to type :

    [stephane@localhost ~]$ vncserver -geometry 750x400 -depth 16 :1

Video on Zaurus... Quick shrink! (Mon, 30 Apr 2007 08:21:49 +0100)

This week end I had a quick look on how to shrink a video in order to watch it on the Z...

Here is what I came up with so far, I need to improve a bit the quality, but that gave me a video as follow :
    Video identification script
Part of the tovid suite, version 0.28
    with: core magick dvd vcd

IPK Will Not Install (Sun, 29 Apr 2007 13:28:34 +0100)

Our Zaurus community obviously urgently needs one comprehensive how-to page on this topic. I've thought about writing up this area, on my own, for our "book", but feel overwhelmed. However, I realized I could ask tyrannozaurus members to share what they know on this topic, so here I am, asking for help. I've posted a skeleton below, but I also have very specific questions I need help with.

Mandriva link for zaurus (Sun, 29 Apr 2007 08:24:48 +0100)

    I posted this :

    http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=40939

in order to let know mandriva users who are potential zaurii users to know the site. It would be a good idea to do the same if anyone uses unbutu or suse etc...

    Product of a Union Soldier (Sat, 28 Apr 2007 08:29:47 +0100)

    Way off topic, but...
"...it seems a stray bullet actually pierced the testicle of a Union soldier and lodged itself in the ovaries of a woman standing approximately 100 ft. away. She's alright, the baby's doing fine...of course the soldier's a little pissed off..." -Tom Waits

Just a line from a song that I remembered. It should make most people chuckle. If I offended you, I'm sorry, but it's been a long week.

The End of OpenZaurus, the Beginning of Angstrom (Sat, 28 Apr 2007 05:09:31 +0100)

It seems as though OpenZaurus has finally been laid to rest. The developers have been working on two ROMs for a while, whith more and more migrating to Angstrom. More information can be found at the OpenZaurus Blog Entry.

    Login name during pdaXii13 install? (Fri, 27 Apr 2007 21:56:08 +0100)

    Hello all,

I have a C3000 with the original Sharp ROM. I tried to install the latest pdaXii13 Spitz package by Meanie and run into a little problem. Using the instructions under http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html, it looks as if the finishing point is choosing Option 6 to reboot the Z. When I do that I get several messages and at the end I am prompted for login name. Any ideas as to what is happening there? A little more detail: following the instructions I chose Option 2 to repartition my Z based on the install's recommended partion. After Option 4 (extracting hdimage.tgz), a large number of messages started appearing on the screen...such as file not found, etc.

    hi there,

i had to say a word about a distro nobody is talking about but which is an actual alternative distro for our Zaurus: OpenBSD !

this distro is really becoming a working alternative, with great capabilities like true working base install, working cf wifi network, working firefox2 (!) ...

only drawbacks right now are flaky SD driver and no rfcomm protocol yet...but apart from that,

I have now made my mind to stick to cacko for the time beiing, I don't think I m geek enough to play too log with pdaxrom!

I am now looking for the today application for the Boxer. The today (summary of all tasks and meetings for the day) also known as opie-today installs on the boxer but does work (ish) only on portrait mode. Any of using that application on a c7x0 or c8x0 or even the bigger models?

    Upgrade of Qtopia (Fri, 27 Apr 2007 09:25:15 +0100)

My Zaurus is SL-5600 with the original Sharp ROM.

A check found that the Qtopia in use is 1.5.4.

Can I upgrade to the newest version of Qtopia?

    Any benefits after the upgrade?

Will my commercial software, like TKC MP3 Player, NeoCal, be running on the new Qtopia?

I found this PDF file while rummaging through my desktop folders today. The creation date is in 2002
It has some of the older Zaurii pictured and some other Sharp PDAs pictured.
I thought antikx would get a kick out of this, as he seems very interested in Zaurus history. Smiling
