Voice

Introduction

Voice support in Opera is based on the Voice XML standard and can basically do two things:

• Generate computer speech from text in a Web page
• Translate your voice into text, and perform actions accordingly

The voice support is based on the English language.

Requirements

1. You need to install a version of Opera with voice support

Note: Make sure the volume controls for microphone and speakers are not zero or muted.

Speaking to Web pages

Opera with voice support enables you to communicate with Web services using your voice and hearing.

Type opera:/help/voice.html in the Opera address field for voice content demo.

Note: You can use the round center key / space bar as a substitute for the Voice button.

Speaking to Opera

You can control the Opera user interface with your own voice, along with - or instead of - the stylus and keyboard.

1. Enable the option to control Opera using voice
2. Go to a Web page
3. Press and hold the Voice button on the main bar
4. Say "Browser reload" into your microphone and let go of the Voice button

With a few attempts of pronounciation you should be able to tell Opera to do a variety of things.

Tip: If you want to execute voice commands without having to press the Voice button, enable the option to recognize voice commands automatically.

The default voice commands shipped with Opera are:

Voice options

You can choose:

• To make the browser stop talking by tapping the stylus
• Which key to make the browser listen to you
• Under what circumstances the browser should listen for voice commands
• If you want to use voice to control the Opera user interface
• Which name you want to start the commands with
