Bugs
- Kapi <-> DTM sync appears not to be working.*needs status update*
- Pwm: context menu can appear off-screen when context-clicking on items near the bottom of the screen. *will not be fixed*
Quirks- Kapi doesn't provide a way to associate itself with vCards on the Z (haven't checked behaviour on windows or x86 linux). *Will not be fixed* I do think that's important. It provides an easy way to import vcards from the filesystem, for example.
- Kapi bar has no separate settings for portrait and lanscape modes. So if you change your portrait mode bar to have a very short list (in order to be able to see more contact details without scrolling), it'll change to a very narrow list when you switch back to landscape. Not ideal.
- Kapi: it would be nice to make search-as-you-type the default behaviour
- Kopi: picking a date from the date picker while in todo view has no effect: it might be nice to switch to an agenda view.
- Kapi: unused menu items. File->Print. File->Exit isn't really needed either. Neither is fixed in .17
- Kopi:alarm before an allday even defaults at midnight (actually, 10 to midnight). Not really nice. Might be useful to have a default alarm time for allday events, and be able to specify the time of the day for the alarm, instead of the period of time between the alarm and midnight on the allday event. This is especially useful for things like birthdays. *Will be fixed later, maybe.*
- PWM: cannot be installed to memory card.
RFE- Kapi:Provide more IM fields so each contact can have a protocol-specific nickname. The most widespread protocols are AIM/ICQ, Gadu-Gadu, Groupwise, IRC, Jabber, MSN and Yahoo. Doing this now will also ease IM integration down the road (with something like Kopete or Gaim). *will not be changed* too bad
- Kapi: Replace the search settings dropbar with the category dropdown in portrait mode. Seems a lot more useful, but I might be missing something. Let me know. *Will not be changed* too bad. (queue sad dog-eyes)
- Kopi: Remember one column setting for each display orientation (so you can make optimal use of the screen real estate in both portrait and landscape), and a way to not display columns you don't need. *will not be changed* too much work.
- Kopi: put an ok button in the category context menu in todo view, so you can select several categories in the menu and press OK. *will not be changed*
- Kopi: Re-sort todo items after an item edit so that items stay sorted. *needs status update*

Hi
(C750, installation on SD card, Cacko 1.22)
2 things about 1.9.16:
1. The synchronisation between KA/Pi and Sharp DTM still does not work. After doing all the work KA/Pi aborts (closes down) (see detailed report of the problem in the KA/Pi 1.9.14 post). I've tried with full Sharp DTM/empty KA/Pi; Empty Sharp DTM/full KA/Pi, and both full Sharp DTM and KA/Pi. Same result. (KO/Pi is fine)
2. All apps installed (using Add/Remove Programs) to SD card fine except Password manager which said it had to be installed to Main memory
-
2. All apps installed (using Add/Remove Programs) to SD card fine except Password manager which said it had to be installed to Main memory
I've edited the bugpost.
I have a question: is it possible to inline a picture in a vcard so that it gets synched like the rest? Right now it only seems possible to store pictures as absolute links.
I'd put it in the RFE's, but again, I might be missing something.
Another thing: where's the damn penguin .png used in Kapi? I want to replace it with something less politically correct (drunk Homer Simpson, anyone?)

Thanks for your help, Ben.
There are actually still some problems which should be solved before 2.0.0
Yes, it is not possible to inline a picture in a vcard.
I have that on my bug list.
/opt/Qtopia/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/package_toys.png
is the penguin.
By the way, I updated

I hope it's ok to post this here, but -
the sync between KA/Pi and DTM has become a little weird
I had KO/Pi loaded, then I loaded KA/Pi and elected to sync with Sharp DTM.
Whilst it was synching I loaded the Sharp Address Book.
I kept switching between KO/Pi, Sharp Address Book and KA/Pi. At some point (must have been between KA/Pi calculating what to sync and actually asking the user to 'Execute'), I noticed I could see an entry in KA/Pi that would not have been there before sync!!! Then the execute dialogue popped up and clicked ok and the 2 new contacts had been added. Hooraay!!!
Before writing this I thought I ought to try it again - mistake.
What came next is a bit confusing and I'm not sure I remember everything (three glasses of wine into the evening), but KA/Pi would not sync, ie after selecting the menu option to sync, nothing happened. At the same time I checked Sharp Address Book and although there appeared to be loads of entries (the select bar would go up and down the screen as if all the entries did not have a first name, last name and email), every time I elected to modify, no details were found, i.e. it would let me edit an empty entry.
I thought I'd remove all Sharp DTM entries and start again by synching with Outlook, but I got a out of memory error, so I've rebooted. Just about to try it all again
-
How does one get OMPI working with POP3 accounts? I have yet to figure this out. Every attempt thusfar has resulted in many error's. I create the account easily enough, but the retrieving of the mail results in error 5 initializing folder. The folder exists too. How is this done?
Thanks!

Bugs- Kapi preview pane is not updated after a contact edit, you have to switch to another contact and back to see the changes.
Should work in 1.9.17
[/li][li]Kapi all fields search doesn't actually search all the fields, only those listed in the contact list.
Should work in 1.9.17
[/li][li]Kapi <-> DTM sync appears not to be working.
Will look at this this weekend
[/li][li]Pwm: context menu can appear off-screen when context-clicking on items near the bottom of the screen.
Unimportant bug. Will not be fixed.
[/li][/list]Quirks- Kapi doesn't provide a way to associate itself with vCards on the Z (haven't checked behaviour on windows or x86 linux)
True, but will not be fixed.

I agree, not ideal. But will not be fixed.
[/li][li]Kapi: impossible to remove default filter created for each category.
Changed in 1.9.17: If a filter is defined by the user, the default filters are disabled.
[/li][li]Kapi: it would be nice to make search-as-you-type the default behaviour
Changed in 1.9.17
[/li][li]Kopi: picking a date from the date picker while in todo view has no effect: it might be nice to switch to an agenda view.
Actually it has a small effect. Non-runninh todos are may be not displayed.
Behaviour not changed.
[/li][li]Kapi: unused menu items. File->Print. File->Exit isn't really needed either.
Right. Printing is missing.
[/li][li]Kopi:alarm before an allday even defaults at midnight (actually, 10 to midnight). Not really nice. Too much work to make it better.

category selection still possible via menu.

That is impossible.
A solution would be to pop up the actual categorie selection dialog.

Hi Ben,
I put a new version for testing on
www.pi-sync.net/daunlood/latest/kdepim_1.9.17_for_SharpRom.ipk.zip
Please test this version, especially the changes I made.
To all the other: If you test this version, please make a backup of your data.
The addressbook saving may have problem, I made the saving up to 8 times faster!
Chaneglog of 1.9.17:
Info about the changes in new versions of KDE-Pim/Pi
********** VERSION 1.9.17 ************
KO/Pi:
Fixed that tooltips were not updated after moving an item in agenda view.
Fixed a bug in sorting start date for recurring events in list view.
Changed the left button in todo viewer from "Agenda" to "Set completed".
This makes it possible to change a todo in the What's Next View quickly to the completed state without leaving the What's Next View.
Added more info in the todo viewer: Startdate, parent/sub todos.
KA/Pi:
All fields search does now actually search all the (possible) fields,
not only those listed in the contact list.
Made is possible to inline a picture in a vcard on the Z.
This was only possible on the desktop, now is it possible on the Z as well.
Fixed of missing save settings after filter configuration.
Made saving of addressbook much faster.
Fixed extension widget layout problem.
Fixed saving of default formatted name settings.
Fixed formatted name handling in edit dialog.
Added an option for changing formatted names of many contacts
(menu: File - Change - Set formatted name).
QWhatsThis was not working on the Z ( only black rectangle was shown).
This is Fixed.
KDE-Sync:
Now readonly KDE resources are synced as well.
(They are not changed in KDE itself, of course).
Thanks for testing,
z.

I would be happy to fix this problem, but the problem is:
POP3 is working for me.
Such that I cannot find out what is wrong.

Bugs
- Kapi <-> DTM sync appears not to be working.*needs status update*
- Kapi: Can't seem to find a way to remove pictures from a vCard.
edit: it's impossible to remove a pic if "store as URL" is not selected. So there is a workaround (it's still a bug, hint-hint, nudge-nudge) - Kopiemail: the recipient selection window (the one you get from the "to" button) uses the orientation used at application startup, not the current orientation.
Quirks- Kapi: Contact display (in the preview pane) is *really* slow when the contact picture is not minimalistic in size. A 40k pic causes a 4 secs delay in the switch). Might be a good idea to either thread the display (the card appears with the image still loading, like a webpage) or cache the thumbnail image.
- Kapi doesn't provide a way to associate itself with vCards on the Z (haven't checked behaviour on windows or x86 linux). *Will not be fixed* Isn't that one of the primary tasks of a PIM app?

You get in the contaxt menu of the view:
delete all selected mails
But I think the behaviour of the delete icon should be deleting of all mails and not only one mail.
z.
-
You get in the context menu of the view:
delete all selected mails
Hadn't even seen that ! I never seem to think of context menus on the Z... :-)
It's a bit tricky to get at it AND keep a multiple selection, but at least it works... thanks Zautrix !
But I think the behaviour of the delete icon should be deleting of all mails and not only one mail.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=62858\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Maybe the simplest fix would be to have the same commands in the context menu and in the Message menu ?

I have the same problems using DTMsync including the disappearing entries from Sharp address book, I also get a conflict screen where KA/Pi has scrambled 2 entries into one.
You should be able to recover the Sharp address book with the following.
Rename the Sharp dtm folder (/home/zaurus/Applications/dtm)
Create a new dtm folder, add original files from a backup if possible, see note.
Run sharp address book
Rename new dtm folder
Rename original dtm folder back to dtm
No idea why it works, but all the entries re-appear.
Note: It is possible to restore individual files or folders from a Sharp backup by copying the relevant files from your PC, they should be located in a folder similar to C:\Program Files\Sharp Zaurus\BackupRestore\Backup\SL-C760\20050107110121 the last bit is the date of the backup, you can also use it to see what files are backed up by the Sharp backup routine.

My problems with 1.9.16 may be more a conflict with Cacko on my 5500.
The following has happened twice.
After installing the korganizer and kaddressbook (and associated files) they both work fine, all the items, dates, contacts are in place.
The next time I opened korganizer notice some of the entries are missing. I closed and clicked again on the korganizer icon, the hourglass appears, and disappears, but korganizer does not appear. (The first time I did this, and continued to repeat this, eventually I could not reboot my Z. I would get to the Cacko opening screen asking for root password or Control-D to continue. (and neither worked anyway. This led to a reformat of my SD and reinstallation. My second attempt when I saw korganizer and kaddressbook fail to open, I just quickly uninstalled them to save the system. Backups are wonderful, BTW!)
The second time through korganizer was also doing other flaky things. Even though global change of time to 12 hour system, some events (whether editing old or making new) might have 24 hour time in the beginning time slot and 12 hour time in the ending time slot.
For the particulars, running Cacko kernel 64-0 for 5500 on my 512meg Lexar SD. It was stable until installing 1.9.16.

I can't download other SourceForge software, either -- and I've tried on both Safari and FireFox. I wonder if my ISP is blocking the domain?

Hi zautrix
I found some bugs in 1.9.16
kopi:
when using the keyboard shortcuts to switch to the toto-list ("v") (in mode: hide not running todos in todo view) I cannot scroll up/down with the arrow-keys anymore. If I press "t" it is possible to scroll.
If I press left arrow I move to the following week, but I cannot go any further or backwards
OMPI:
copy and paste cannot be saved. the pasted text is deleted in parts
brisko

I've got some bugs in .16 too.
• The alarm applet is even more finicky this time around. In .15 I had to uninstall it because every time I woke the Z from a suspended state it would go through the reboot process. This time it did it once at random and then again (and I think you noted this already) when I uninstalled it.
• The "Toggle Date Navigator" view in KO/Pi doesn't stick. The mini calendar is back every time I launch the app, and I'd like it to stay gone. This was the same in .15.
• IMAP in OM/Pi -- Has anyone got this working?
Thanks for listening!

In the todo view you cannot change time with the left/right keys, because the keys are used for open/closing item with subtodos.

Hi Mike,
thanks for helping testing and finding problems.
Your Problems were caused by two things:
(1)
KA/Pi have had a "smart" merging mechanism, which was actually quite stupid.
I have changed this. Version 1.9.18 should work much better.
(2)
After syncing with DTM KA/Pi is storing a sync state of the items.
If you do a restore , you will get such strange results such as
"I also get a conflict screen where KA/Pi has scrambled 2 entries into one".
After a restore
Please remove the sync info for the DTM profile and make sure, that no items are in DTM and KA/Pi before the first sync.
Please let me know, if syncing works in Version 1.9.18 for you.
I tested it and it is now working for me well.
z.

I hope it's ok to post this here, but -
the sync between KA/Pi and DTM has become a little weird
How much contact items do you have in your addressbook?

********** VERSION 1.9.18 ************
Release for testing only.
FYI: The VERSION 1.9.17 was a testing release only.
Please read the changelog of VERSION 1.9.17 as well.
Cleaned up the syncing config dialog.
Added sync config options for date range for events.
Added sync config options for filters on incoming data.
Added sync config options for filters on outgoing data.
Please read the updated SyncHowTo about the new filter settings.
These filter settings make it now possible to sync with shared
calendars without writing back private or confidential data
(via the outgoing filters).
To sync only with particular parts of a shared calendar,
the incoming filter settings can be used.
An example can be found in the SyncHowTo.
Same for shared addressbooks.
Added a setting for the global kdepim data storage.
Usually the data is stored in (yourhomedir/kdepim).
Now you can set in the Global config dialog TAB, subTAB "Data storage path"
a directory where all the kdepim data is stored.
That makes it easy to save all kdepim data on a SD card on the Z, for example.
KO/Pi:
The timeedit input has a pulldown list for times.
If opened, this pulldown list should now has the right time highlighted.
Added the possibility to exclude events/todos/journals in a filter.
You should exclude journals, if you do not want them to sync with a public calendar.
KA/Pi:
Added the possibility to in/exclude public/private/confidential contacts to a filter.
If you have already defined filterrules in KA/Pi you have to adjust them all by setting the "include public/private/confidential" property manually. Sorry for that ...
Added printing of card view and details view on desktop.
Printing of list view is not working...
Added button for removing pictures in contact editor.
Parsing data fix of KA/Pi version 1.9.17.
Fixed the "parse name automatically" problem of KA/Pi version 1.9.17.
Fixed some syncing merging problems.

Hi guinea-pigs,
I have made the view change in KO/Pi better.
The month view is now shown much faster.
Please try version 1.9.19 and report, if it works or if it not work.
The "not working" means, that it would be posibble that there are
some repainting errors when changing the view.
I have tested it and it is working great for me.
But maybe there is somewhere a hidden bug ...
********** VERSION 1.9.19 ************
Added a lot of missing translations to KA/Pi,
Added some missing translations to KO/Pi and OM/Pi.
Fixed some minor problems in KA/Pi + KO/Pi.
Fixed a crash when closing PwM/Pi.
Added German translation for PwM/Pi.
Made view change and Month View update faster in KO/Pi.

The first thing I checked and confirmed is that the KO/Pi alarm applet is still buggy in .19. It causes the Z to reboot when waking from a suspended state or when uninstalling.
I had it installed to the CF card. Is this what's causing the odd behavior?
Everything else looks okay so far.
Thanks for the rapid updates!
-
One minor bug to report:
When I installed .19, KA/pi deleted some of my filters. I re-created them and all seems fine. I don't see any other changes to the data.

The first thing I checked and confirmed is that the KO/Pi alarm applet is still buggy in .19. It causes the Z to reboot when waking from a suspended state or when uninstalling.
I think the applet causes the reboot on uninstall so it can remove itself from the tray. Zautrix can probably clarify, but it doesn't cause reboots when installed from a console.
What exactly causes the reboot on suspend? Edit: I still have .17, me silly. I'll test again with .19
I just sent Z my data and rc files so he can figure out what caused some of the stranger bugs I noticed.
-
Hi all,
I've just installed .19 and am greatly pleased as with every version before.
Only thing i noticed is, in KA/PI the jump bar won't display all letters, even though there are matching entries.
I must confess thogh, that i don't know whether it's specific to .19 since i hadn't activated the jump bar before.
Oh, and neither KA/PI nor KO/PI are installable on card, xept from the command line.
Great work and i'm eagerly awaiting 2.0
Keep the good work going - THX

Hi,
I was able to install all apps to my SD card. I had a problem w/ pwmanager, but when I tried it again, it accepted it and put it in the SD card. (Kde-pim/pi 1.9.18)

And another one ...
Now a version working on Windows 98/Me is available as well.
********** VERSION 1.9.20 ************
KO/Pi:
Added for the "dislplay one day" agenda mode
info in the caption and in the day lables:
Now it is displayed, if the selected day is from "day before yesterday"
to "day after tomorrow".
Made it possible to delete a Todo, which has sub-todos.
Fixed two small problems in the todo view.
Added missing German translation for filter edit and print dialog.
Made search dialog closeable by cancel key.
Made it possible to select in the date picker the (ligt grey )
dates of the prev./next month with the mouse.
OM/Pi:
"Delete mail" icon in main window now deletes all selected mails.
Fixed the problem, that the state flag of imap mails was ignored.
Now mails with "FLAG_SEEN" on the imap server get no icon in the list view
to indecate that they are already seen.
Fixed the problem that the body of some mails was not displayed in the
mail viewer when fetching them from the imap server directly to read them.
Made it (configurable) possible to show the "To:" field in the list view.
Added to the mail viewer the option "View Source" to make it possible to see the raw mail data.
Added a "Download Mail" button to the mail viewer to quickly download the viewed mail to the
local storage folder (specified in account settings) of the account of the mail.
Removed some memory leaks in OM/Pi.

As of .19, I still wasn't able to connect to an IMAP server using OM/Pi. I can send and recieve to this same host in Qtopia mail, but not OM/Pi, which is what leads me to believe it's not a server-side glitch but a bug in the app. POP3 is fine.
I'm still leaning about Linux, so I'll see if I can find a log file that might give me a bit more info to pass on. Just wanted to highlight the problem and see if there's a fix.

zautrix, do you want me to post a buglist like I did for the previous versions. The bugfixes from the changelog are working fine, and I'm almost done re-going through the bugs I had before.
I really, really like month view now. I didn't even notice you improved it because I wasn't using it anymore, but now it's a good feature
I've posted all the RFE you asked for on SF.net, and am compiling an updated temporary buglist

Hi,
some remarks concerning the .20 version.
the installing via graphical installer doesn't work with sd. Oddly enough, the tool pretends, that the installation was succesfull, but the links aren't present and consequently the apps aren't available.
This does not occur though, when installation is made by cmd-line, so i think i'll stick to that.
Now for the apps themselves:
KO/PI: nothing to complain so far, exept for a missing feature (added in sourceforge wishlist) sometimes i need to export a single event as icalendar by means of ordinary filetransfer (not IR).
KA/PI: the jump bar is still buggy (only mine?) some letters are missing whereas others appear multiple in different places. I quit using it.
PWM/PI: seems to be grown up since i used it last time (1.9.3). I think, i could get used to it now.
that's all for now.

Yeah, that problem is difficult to solve, because the space is missing on the PDA ...
Thx for your feedback,

Is there any way KO/Pi could run from separate files as "resources" like KA/Pi?
To put that in (hopefully) clearer terms, what I'd like to do is copy my individual .ics files straight from my iBook to my Z preiodically and have KO/Pi run from them as "resources" at startup. That would make syncing a cinch instead of worrying about deleted entries and so on.

Ok, I tried OM/Pi again, hoping that it wouldn't show blank message bodies anymore.
Now when I open up my IMAP inbox, and then try to open an actual mail message, OM/Pi just goes away. As in shuts down. So I seem worse off than before.
I can see the subject, sender, etc. in the cute little boxes at the bottom, but I can't actually open the message up at all.
This also happens if download the mail and try to view it in the "Local Folders" section.
I can go look at the files in the folder with a text editor.
If it makes any difference, I have pointed my root folder to a folder on my SD card, so the mail is sitting in /mnt/card/kdepim/apps/kopiemail/localmail/account name/

Congratulations!
KOpieMial/Pi is the first working IMAP client I have found for my Zaurus!
Finally I can really use my IMAP email on my Z!

Thanks a million!

hi zautrix
in versions 1.9.20 and 2.0.0.0 the todo view has changed: in the setting "hide not running todos in todo-view" (and don't show completed todos intodo-view) there are no "due today" and "overdue" todos anymore in the todo-view. personally i think they should be listed as they are still active todos.
i don't like the workaround through "showing all Todos in todo view" as i am getting too many todos in my weekly view.
any chance to get this back ? i think in 1.9.18 it used to be like that, unfortunately i have deleted the package and can't get it anywhere an sourceforge

Beautiful work!
The main thing i've found that was strange is that in OM/Pi, when an attachment is saved, it doesn't default to the name of the attachment file being saved.
As noted before, embedded emails are still not shown as embedded, simply attachments.
I still haven't really figured out the way that the mail synchronization works. It seems a bit esoteric.

PM me your email I'll send .18 to you.
edit: I only have .17 and .19, take your pick.

Oops, guess i found a bug.
When using the timer in KO/Pi, and the screen saver is on (i can't seem to get it to turn off since updating to Cacko 1.22), the timer alarm sounds, and after tapping the screen all that is visible are two of the buttons on the alarm pop-up. The first time i was able to push the power button and then wake it back up to get the screen back. The second time, i tried random clicking around the blank area of the screen, and Qtopia crashed and restarted.

Hi,
now (PIM/PI 2.0) allmost everything is perfect for me.
I'm happy with PWM/PI, since the option to import csv-files made it possible to get all my ZSafe stuff in, without having to retype everything.
Minor issue:
KO/PI: sometimes the jump bar won't show at start (fastload enabled)
Wish:
KA/PI: It'd add much to usability, if multiple use of calendar-button would cycle through views (°°°dream°°° configureable), instead of just switching (and staying there) to what's next view.
Meanwhile i was able to sent my faithful Palm V into retirement - thanks to Cacko and PIM/PI.
Greetz, j.
-
Might want to grey out the input text fields in kopimail/pi "General" settings when using the KAPI settings to set who you are.
If you change a birthday event, it will get added again with the default settings when you import birthdays in KO/pi
I still can't seem to sync over IR to my phone (device can't be accessed error), although beaming vCal events works fine.
-
Great to see OM/pi and KA/pi work together
One issue with kopiemail and pop.
It seems that each time the inbox folder of an account is selected the entire content is downloaded from the server.
I've got about 100mails in there and that takes a while. Meanwhile om/pi remains frozen. After all mail is downloaded I can browse the email list and read email. Then, select another folder and then go back to the inbox, same thing again.
Disconnect the zaurus and OM/pi tries to download again, and remains unresponsive for the rest of the evening.
-
The release notes mention the wrong version number (1.9.20)
There are also silly carriage returns that break lines when reading it in portrait mode on a Z.
Zautrix, do you want me to make a temp bug/quirks list again?
-
Whoa...did I miss the stealth week view in the release notes? I clicked on the week number on the left in the Month view, and I get a (Palm/Outlook)-style 2-column week view! This is great! It's not really highlighted in the release notes, or maybe I just glossed over it...
I'm thrilled just to have it, but now that I'm using it, it would probably work better as a first-class view (like day, workweek, month) with its own icon. Switching back-and-forth from month-view-in-month-mode and month-view-in-week-mode is cumbersome. When I hit the "month view" button and context-switch from some other mode (journal entry etc) I don't expect to see only a week's worth of events. Plus the navigation metaphor is broken: the "<" and ">" buttons on top of the view take you to the next <b>month</b>, so from the week beginning Feb14 I get to the week beginning Mar 14. Whereas the same buttons on the window toolbar go to next week and next month. It's unintuitive and confusing.
While some people may find navigating to this-week-in-next-month useful, the most likely thing for a user to want to see is the next week and there's no button to do that. In that sense there should be 3 buttons in week mode: ">" (next week), ">>" (next month) and ">>>" (next year).
So I'm lobbying for 1) making it an independent view with a button on top, and 2) allowing the user to select which buttons appear on the toolbar, since they already run out of room in portrait mode on my C860. I never use the journal & list view buttons, for instance, which would allow me to see the navigation buttons without having to click through to the continuation dropdown menu.
Also in the suggestions category, I find the "dashed line" for the half-hour demarcation in the Week view a little disorienting/distracting. (I'm an advocate for Tufte-style visual minimalism in UI design). What would be nice is to have an option to set the line color, weight & style for the main grid and the 1/2 hour lines. (Since you're presumably just setting Qt::PenStyle anyway to get the dashed lines this shouldn't be particularly burdensome.)

You can select which buttons you want already (though you need to restart), and the arrow always increments by the number of days currently displayed (so it'll give you next week in week view, and month in month view, etc). I'm not sure I get what you want.
-
You can select which buttons you want already (though you need to restart), and the arrow always increments by the number of days currently displayed (so it'll give you next week in week view, and month in month view, etc). I'm not sure I get what you want.
Nope. From the week-within-month view the ">" button right above the view (ie: right next to where it says "February '05") goes a month ahead, skipping over 3 or 4 weeks. The ">" button in the top row (the one alongside the month, journal etc buttons) behaves correctly, going only a week ahead. But the ones right on top of the view jump a month ahead even though you're viewing a week. This is true both on the 2.0.6 version on my laptop as well as the 2.0.4 version on my Z.
What I'm after, besides fixing/rationalizing the button behavior, is to make the new nifty week view a fully-fledged view with its own viewing button rather than merely a state of the month view (which to me makes no sense). It's basic human interface guidelines stuff that if you have a button at the top of the page that is for a "Month view" that when I click on it I always expect to view a month worth of dates. But now if I've left it in the week view state and I want to see a month view, I have to (1) hit "M" or click on the month icon, and then (2) move the mouse/grab the stylus (no keyboard shortcut for toggling between week-of-month & month?) to the far right and click the tiny number "7" in order to toggle back to the full month view I wanted in the first place.
I didn't know you could select which buttons appeared, so that's good news. Thanks.

i can't seem to get opiemail to fetch my POP mail (2.0.6)
is there anything changed in that part of the code?
I'm going to try and reset my server settings, but I don't think that's the problem.
Edit: yeah, sharp app gets my mail just fine, but my pop server in kopimail is borked.
-
I used OMPI with the Cacko 1.22 lite release after having not installed the SHARP mail application.
All in all - it works fine (with my POP3 accounts), but there were some issues I think could be ironed out - some issues are simple layout issues , others more substantial.
I made a thread out here called OMPI Feedback (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11008)
and cross linked it here so everyone and Zautrix in particular can get the feedback.
Thanks
-
I had problems with my previous cacko 1.22 full installation that were obviously unrelated to /pi stuff, but now that i reinstalled the Cacko 1.22 lite distribution, it's obvious that the /pi apps are to blame for some troubles. Specifically, until i installed the KO/pi alarm applet, i had no crashing problems. Now, every morning, after (or sometimes perhaps before) the alarm goes off, Qtopia crashes. I noticed today that there was a whole listing of errors on a black screen along the lines of "Could not open sound port ****" or something like that when i opened up the Z, just before Qtopia restarted.
-
I'm running through my previous buglist again so I can post a new one.
The first post's updated with 2.0.15, have a go at it
Still temporary (running through both my personal list, this one and SF.net's):
Bugs- Kapi <-> DTM sync appears not to be working.*needs status update*
I got a universal doubles when DTM-synching and choosing remote over local. - Kopiemail: the recipient selection window (the one you get from the "to" button) uses the orientation used at application startup, not the current orientation.
*will not be changed* The obvious solution is to port Kopete and integrate it, damnit. (http://www.pycs.net/lateral/stories/15.html)
- Kapi: Replace the search settings dropbar with the category dropdown in portrait mode. Seems a lot more useful, but I might be missing something. Let me know. *Will not be changed* too bad. (queue sad dog-eyes... could we have that as a user option, puuuhlease?).
- Kopi: Re-sort todo items after an item edit so that items stay sorted. *needs status update*
-
I've been trying kde/PIM and I'm in love with it
But there's a request I'd like to make, since I work 3 days and then I get 2 free days.
(yes, it's a nice working schedule )
This means my weeks are five days long and I don't really mind if it's saturday or sunday, then: could it be possible to have an option to set week length or something to user needs?
I'd really like to find this option in a calendar app at last, and ko/PI is great in any other way.
Thanks for your awesome work!
-
Look in the options, you can set the timespan for several views.
Since you have a 5500, could you check that all the option screens fit at quarter-VGQ resolution? Thanks.
-
Ok, Default and Cancel buttons fell out of the screen (behind the taskbar) by, let's say, 12 points. This doesn't happen in Ka/Pi though.
I don't see what I need anywhere in the options.
What I'd like to see is an option in Work week or somewhere, asking how many days are there in working week and how many free days (it could default to 7 days in week and 2 free days, what is usual), so I could have my working shift in the calendar: 3 work, 2 free, 3,2,3,2, etc.
I don't know if I can explain well my idea right now, I just woke up
-

Bugs/annoyances that I'd like comments on:- Kapi: how do I permanently disable sticky-shift so I can select a single contact after selecting several of them?
- Kapi: changing filters seems to change which columns are displayed. Haven't found how to reproduce this yet.
- Kapi: What determines wether a category gets a default filter or not? I have a custom category with a filter I can't remove, and when I created a new one, it didn't create the repective default filter.
- Kapi: the SyncEvent filter is a bit useless.
- Kopi: what the hell is PHB category? Pointy-haired boss?
- Kopi: reorganise the menu, include a settings submenu like Kapi.
- Kopi: some view options are under the wrong tabs.
- Kopi: todo creation/edit window title should be the item's summary.
- Kopi: What's "show vertical screen"? Doesn't seem to do anything.
- Kopi: you get the context menu even when resizing events in agenda view.
- Pwmpi: the sorting is bugged and differenciates between items with a Capital as first character and those without.
I have quite a few bugs lined up for Kopiemail, but I'd like to know what the application's focus is, before I start reporting things that Zautrix is not interested in fixing
The feeling I get is that the kopiemail codebase was pretty bad to start with, so fixing everything is a bit aggravating.

I do not know that- Kopi: what the hell is PHB category? Pointy-haired boss?
Yes, you are right.- Kopi: reorganise the menu, include a settings submenu like Kapi.
- Kopi: some view options are under the wrong tabs.
That may be. The problem is, that the size of each TAB is limited.- Kopi: todo creation/edit window title should be the item's summary.
Well, I am using the title as a status line. This is needed to display some alarm info- Kopi: What's "show vertical screen"? Doesn't seem to do anything.
Needs a restart. Will layout the todo view left of he main views.- Kopi: you get the context menu even when resizing events in agenda view.
I nerver noticed that bug. It is only valid for the first click on the agenda view. Thanks for reporting.- Pwmpi: the sorting is bugged and differenciates between items with a Capital as first character and those without.

Hmm. I believe I have given up on fixing everything in KOpieMail. There is just too much which is not working.

Which screen? Try to figure out what you did before the at happened, then fill a bug-report.
I did nothing, it's just when I get into menu options (Menu/Action/Configure) that those buttons are too low in the screen so lower part of them is behind taskbar.
What about my 'little' request?
What I'd like to see is an option in Work week or somewhere, asking how many days are there in working week and how many free days (it could default to 7 days in week and 2 free days, what is usual), so I could have my working shift in the calendar: 3 work, 2 free, 3,2,3,2, etc.
I don't know if I can explain well my idea right now, I just woke up
Do you guys think it could be possible (and easy) to get something like this?
-
- Kopi: what the hell is PHB category? Pointy-haired boss?
Yes, you are right.
Brilliant.
- Kopi: reorganise the menu, include a settings submenu like Kapi
- Kopi: some view options are under the wrong tabs.
That may be. The problem is, that the size of each TAB is limited.
DO you want me to build a draft of an improved menu and configuration screen? I also realised that most of the misplaced items belonged under tabs that were pretty crowded already.
- Kopi: todo creation/edit window title should be the item's summary.
Well, I am using the title as a status line. This is needed to display some alarm info
I'll look at it again. There might be a better way to do that.
-
- Kopi: What's "show vertical screen"? Doesn't seem to do anything.

Hmm, I thought I restarted it after trying it out. Will try again, sorry for the misreport.

Hmm. I believe I have given up on fixing everything in KOpieMail. There is just too much which is not working.
That's what I thought. Maybe you should look for another mail client to port to the Z. Kmail is a bit massive, thought
Sorry for the double posting, but the forum software doesn't seem to enjoy having large numbers of quotes rammed down its throat.

zautrix, I know you said that OM/Pi's bugs are many, but I'd appreciate it if you could fix the following:
Column readjustments. They don't stick. I want to rearrange my sender, subject, date, and size (in that order) and have it stay that way. This works in KA/Pi, so it should be easy to implement in OM/Pi.
Expanded mailbox folder lists. Someone else has already requested this, but I'm seconding it. I'd like my mailbox folder lists to stay expanded rather than having to click on them to open them. Can't it save a local copy and update only in the (unlikely) event that a folder is added to the server-side mailbox? As it stands now, I have to wait for it to retreive and refresh the folders, then to download my mail. Those ten seconds are oh so precious to me.
That said, OM/Pi has long been my primary e-mail client.
And while I'm here, could you *please* arrange it so that KO/Pi has a "resources" feature like KA/Pi? Specifically, what I want it to do is use individual .ics files so that synching with my iBook isn't even an issue. Apple's iCal.app uses not one grand .ics file but as many as you assign, one for each category, and it would be great to do the same with KO/Pi.

2.0.20 is out. I'll test and report, then update the first post again.
-
I just installed Version 2.0.21 and wow, Kopi seems to have gained a lot. Finally, cycling through views has been achieved (not customizable though), the hole seems to be faster. To be honest, i've lost the track of new features a bit (e.g. i'm not shure, whether features are new in Kopi, or just newly discovered by me) but anyhow, i like it very much and the decreasing activity in this thread seems to be an indicator that most users are reasonable content by now.
I at least, am.
I can't tell if there's anything new with Kapi, since it worked perfect for me ever since V2.016.
Thanks again guys,
greetz, j.

Both Zautrix and I did quite a bit, especially for 21. He's just an awesome bug-fixer, so it's quite rewarding to work with him.
You can customize the views that Kopi cycles through: It only cycles that you have buttons for in the toolbar. So select whichever buttons you want, re-start (make sure you deselect fast-load before starting it up again, you can re-select it once the kopi is started again), and it should cycle between the buttons you have.
Let me know if you have any troubles, though.
I've let some flatmates of mine test Kopi, and they found quite a few more usability bugs that we'll get fixed before long.
-
Phew.
I have now fixed and implemented all things I would like to have in KO/Pi in KA/Pi:
********** VERSION 2.0.22 ************
KO/Pi:
Fix for creating events/todos via the abgenda context menu.
Added option to split toolbar to 3 toolbars.
(Toolbar moving s disabled for this option due to a bug in Qt somewhere).
Added option to show one small filter-view-toolbar.
Added a print option to the desktop version:
Now you can print out the view of the "Event Viewer".
That means you can print all data of one particular event/todo.
Added scaling options to printout of Event Viewer and What'sNext View.
Fixed some problems in the month view in "week start sunday" mode.
KA/Pi:
Added two more config options.
Fixed resizing problem of address request dialog when orientation was switched.
Cleaned up the menu structure.
Fixed some more problems.
Fixed the annoying problem that scrolling continued after the key was released in KO/Pi Monthview and the KA/Pi views.
And, this is a really cool option (Ben did suggest it):
Now KO/Pi and KA/Pi can be run from a USB stick:
All data is read from and written to the stick.
You can enable this in the global configure option TAB with:
Save using LOCAL storage.
Just put KDE-Pim/Pi on a memory stick and you can access all your PIM data on every computer with Windows XP. It will work with the ME and Linux versions as well. I will put a memory stick version for the next stable release online.
Ok, now it's up to you to find some remaining problems ...
-
Uff!
I can't follow you guys!
So many new versions with bug fixes in such a short time...
I always (every day) have to check if a new version came out when I find a bug and want to report it...
I do my best and try to help reporting bugs, but reinstalling takes a while, I have Cacko 64-0 on SD, and I find it quite slow to install ipks (I need a faster SD card ) and in this while you might have fixed and improved a bunch of things...
(couple of days out, and I'm 4 versions behind, I need training )
Thanks a lot for your work!

Like I said, versions come out so fast simply because zautrix fixes problems faster than I can find them, and I can find quite a few.
To make upgrading a bit quicker, run this:
ipkg remove kaddressbook &&
ipkg remove kmicrokdelibs &&
ipkg remove kmobilephoneaccess &&
ipkg remove kopiemail &&
ipkg remove korganizer-alarm &&
ipkg remove korganizer &&
ipkg remove ksharpPIM-DTMaccess &&
ipkg remove pimTABicon &&
ipkg remove pwmanager
Ole! then you just move to a directory where you've dumped all the files,
"ipkg install kmicrolib*.ipk",
"rm kmicrolib*.ipk", and
"ipkg install *.ipk", and finally
"rm *.ipk"
Make sure the kdepim packages are the only ones in that directory, or you're going to hate yourself after running those rm commands.
Maybe one massive IPK with all the apps would be nice
Z, thanks for the new version, installing now. I have quite a few more bugs to fix, but I want to test them on 22 before sending them out (no use having you waste your time).

Does this mean that I could keep the Windows binary on my Z and run it on a host PC updating the same data as the Zaurus version?
That would be a neat solution!

Is it also not true that you can set up your Z to act as a memory reader and then point windows to that drive for reading/writting KO/KA/Pi files (without dealing with memory sticks you get the same effect of having windows and Z versions sharing files)?

well i haven't had the time to install .22 and i admit, keeping up with your pace is a challenge, but still i prefer the single ipk's, maybe because i like to be in control (or at least pretend to be).
and i don't usually install all PI apps, so plz keep the single ipk's.

Fuck me for not thinking about it. It's very doable. I'll ask Zautrix.
-
Hi all,
There are so many improvements in this new release. I was still sticking to 2.0.6 waiting for the next stable release. and it's very stable on my 6k, fast, I can configure it the way I want, there are so many options to fit your taste.
It's really a nice package.
Congratulation to Zautrix(he's sooooo fast) and everybody for making this a killer app.
-
I agree - this PIM suite makes the Z nearly ready for business - for professional use there is only one big gap left: hotsync with Outlook and other mainstream desktop PIMs.
I've used many PDA PIMs before (Psion, Palm etc.) but this is one of the best. Great work!
Now it is up to a GUI expert to streamline the Kde-pim/pi GUI for better PDA usage...
-
I've used many PDA PIMs before (Psion, Palm etc.) but this is one of the best.
That was one of the things that really pissed me off: I had a Psion Series 5, and expected a 5 year newer device to have at least as good PIM functionality. Fat chance with the Sharp software (I haven't seen the Trolltech apps, so I can't comment on those).
Now it is up to a GUI expert to streamline the Kde-pim/pi GUI for better PDA usage...
We're doing that already, it just takes time.
Have you seen the change in input in agenda view? What do you think?

That works, but:
I prefer the next n days view over the working week view, so i left only this, week and day on the toolbar. Still Kopie insists, that next days starts on monday. Once forced by tapping it in the toolbar, it remains in the correct start - exactly until next resume. Not a big thing, but enoying.
And another thing (maybe a little bit older)
you may select multiple events in list view and there's an option to do something with selected events (you can even choose select all) but you can't do anything to more than one selected, since entering context menu deselects all, except for the one you happened to tap.
Greetz,
j.

Already spotted this one. Right now the behaviour of Next-X-Days view is different depending on how you access it (it's a X day view when cylcled through using the agenda button, and actually shows the next X days when access with the toolbar button). I already told zautrix this isn't the desired behaviour, and am awaiting a reply.

Confirmed. Sending this in. If you keep testing the List view (I don't really use it, so it's bee a bit overlooked) I'll test reproduction and post them on the list.
Thanks for reporting.

Thanks ev1l, yep, I tried that and, even if it is still far form fast, I can do it in two steps and not worry to wait for everything to (un)install.
But I had some problems after installing 2.0.22 that way. It worked once and then it kept complaining about not finding libmicrokde. No matter what I install/uninstall, and if I did it from console or from Qt app.
After losing many braincells, I thought it could be because I had a swapfile activated when installing
Deactivated it, reinstalled and, voila! It worked.
Is this possible???
BTW, when I installed Pwmpi 2.0.22 the file with passwords I had already created, just disappeared. I don't know if this could be a bug or a side-effect of the problems I had installing...
On the other hand, do you think something like a "post-it" app could be added to ko-pi?
I mean something you could write on directly with the pen, to take fast notes. Just like on paper!
-
Is this possible???
Possible yes, anything is. I didn't have problems though. Did you try a simple reboot before deactivating the swap file? Zautrix can probably tell you more.

That's not really what Kopi is about. The integrated drawing app already does that, although not as nicely as say, the Palm version of the Notes app, which is very nice and streamlined.
-
I just updated to 2.0.22 and the KO/pi alarm applet never came back. After a reboot it shows up in the applet list, but the applet itself isn't visible. Did i miss a step?
I submitted a bug report that tapping on the + in front of a collapsed todo with subtodos only momentarily expands, and then collapses again. zautrix says this is correct right mouse click behavior. I realize it's his baby, so i guess that's the way it is, but can anyone explain to me why that would ever be desired behavior? And more importantly, how do i expand the listing? I've tried press-and-hold, but it does the same thing.

There must be some confusion ...
If I tap (short) on the screnn I can expand the todo.
If I tap long, it closes again.
Such that the closing on the long tap is the right behaviour.
What Z /Rom are you using?

I use KO/Pi and KA/Pi for my organizer and address needs, but I'm still missing a replacement for the Palm Memo program - syncable text notes. There isn't a Pi version of Memo any more than there is a Pi Notes, is there? Or am I just missing something?
I'll write one if I have to, but it seems like a bit of an odd exclusion.
A little more on topic - Every version of KA/Pi and KO/Pi I've tried has had a problem with sync: I use Pi-sync direct to KO/Pi and KA/Pi on Windows XP. If I set the "Enable Pi-sync at startup" (or whatever it is called), I can't activate sync from the 860 until I've disabled and re-enabled pi-sync in the Windows programs. If I forget and try anyway, I have to manually kill the kapi or kopi process on the 860 through konsole, because it seems to get stuck.
If I manually enable sync in the windows programs after they start, then attempt to sync from the 860, all goes well.
This I first noticed this in 2.0.6, and it still seems to be happening in 2.0.20. Is this something peculiar to my setup, or a known issue?
-

Yeah, that's true. But since I am getting used to it, and I find so many things to do with it, I just forgot I had other programs...
BTW, I didn't find any bugs in Pwmpi (that means nothing, of course ). Ok, Cancel, etc. button in Configure... menu fit right in the screen of a 5500. I find it an easy to use, simple and useful app.

Yes, that should be fixed.
But you need to use the new version on Windows as well.

Zautrix, I know you shot down my OM/Pi wish list, but could I make a request for KA/Pi?
I'd really like to see color-coded categories and the ability to view contacts in those colors. To give an example: assign green to the "Family" category, enabling all "Family" contacts in the standard list view to display in green text. It's a lot like viewing events in KO/Pi in their respective category colors. This helps when scanning for a particular contact.
-
I also forgot to add that syncing is near perfect. I'm no longer running into the duplicate entries -- KO/Pi catches nearly every conflict in tasks and events when syncing with an .ics file.
-
If I tap (short) on the screnn I can expand the todo.
If I tap long, it closes again.
Same here.

Alright. I'll test with a swap file later to try and reproduce it. Zautrix, do you have any clue what could have gone wrong?

Right.
I love users like you.

I think I can spare you the effort. Under the "view" settings, you can assign custom text colors, but AFAIK there's no way to make them correspond to specific categories.
And, yeah, I know I can do the "filter" according to categories, but I really like the tacky rainbow look of category-colored contacts.
-
I love users like you.
Learning from errors...
Perfect, thanks. Have you had a chance to check the config screens for the other apps?
I did a little research, here we go:
Kapi -> *Menu/Sync./Configure...
Ok, Cancel buttons a bit too low on the screen (I think no more than 3-4 pxls)
Couldn't options in this menu be separates by using a Tab widget? It's a bit hard to navigate through all options with a 5500.
Other menus fit perfect.
BTW, I don't fully understand why some submenus disappear when lifting stylus from the screen and some doesn't. I think I'd rather like them to be visible til I tap the screen or st. (Sometimes I feel like doing some Menu-hunting, kind of fun game... )
*Menu/Edit/Change/Set Categories for contacts...

Uhh...two?
It was a last minute decision: I wasn't going to get a C1000 until I found out they were under $500 retail, and the release just happened to coincide with my mule going over for the C3000, and a month that I got paid 3 times instead of 2.
I haven't really thought much past case swapping the C1000 and the C3000. I've got someone on hook to buy the 860 should I decide to let it go. Unfortunately, I've got 860 only accessories - the CE-RH1 remote, the Sharp Camera, and the portable USB cable. That makes me reluctant to sell even if I needed the money. I'll probably end up throwing PDAXRom on the C860 for the time being.

There are some quite strange problems in setting up qtmail integration.
I will look at this again, but I do not know whether I can fix it.

I love users like you.
Learning from errors...
Perfect, thanks. Have you had a chance to check the config screens for the other apps?
I did a little research, here we go:
Kapi -> *Menu/Sync./Configure...
Ok, Cancel buttons a bit too low on the screen (I think no more than 3-4 pxls)
Couldn't options in this menu be separates by using a Tab widget? It's a bit hard to navigate through all options with a 5500.
Other menus fit perfect.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=73237\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I agree, color-coded categories would be quite useful.
But there are a lot of other problem to be fixed such that this will not be implemented in the near future.

Thanks to you for your work!!! (and ev1l too, )
This is just the little help I can offer, a bit of testing. I'd like to have some time to learn and help fixing code. But now I'm just into Python (and taking it easy )
I've found out that, in Week view, on the far right (just on the left of scroll bar), there is a (yellow) vertical margin. Well, clicking on it twice it will go to 'Edit new item' screen for 01.04.2005 date, no matter which week you have selected (with my time format, I guess 04.01.2005 in american standard). Huh?
One request: Couldn't we have a config menu for work week so it will not suppose everybody works monday to friday?
Something to set how many work days, free days and a starting date... maybe?
Or can I do this some other way?
Thanks a lot!
Jop.

There must be some confusion ...
If I tap (short) on the screnn I can expand the todo.
If I tap long, it closes again.
Such that the closing on the long tap is the right behaviour.
What Z /Rom are you using?

I have a c860, with the Cacko 1.22 ROM. I just updated from 2.0.13 before the first posting, to confirm that the problem still existed. It seems that no matter how fast i tap, it thinks i've done a long tap. I'm glad to know that's not normal behavior.
Another weird anomaly in todo is that some titles are wrapped, but because there isn't room for two lines, they are completely illegible.
Wow, for someone who has all he wants in it, you're still cruising along with the new releases! Keep 'em coming.

All data is stored in <yourhome>/kdepim.
Can you make a backup of (or move )this dir and then start with an empty dir (i.e. the default config ) and test if the problem is still there?

If that works, you can probably export your calendar/todo (to a place that's not ~/kdepim, of course ), and reimport it once you've deleted ~/kdepim, and you'll just have to run through the config again.

I've noticed a bug in ko/pi 23. When you bring up the "Event Viewer" dialog **with a double-tap** it does not get the focus and the buttons on the bottom (Agenda, Edit, and Close) to not react to taps.
On some screens the tap gets handled by the window under the dialog. So, for example, bring it up over the month view, click Edit, and the month view screen creates a new event and brings up the Event Editor dialog to edit it (very confusing in this particluar case because you were expecting to edit the event being shown in the Event Viewer but the details are missing).
A work-around is to tap in the text area of the Event View dialog to give it the focus before tapping a button.

Confirmed. In addition, pressing the agenda button makes the topbar appear if you didn't have it previously. I don't see the point (hate, hate, hate the topbar). It also works the other way around: if you did have it (because you are a masochistic and tormented soul, I guess ), it retracts.
The fact that the window under it keeps focus (and keybinds) can result in some pretty funky results indeed.
Eventually we will get rid of all double-click interactivity, it's just not very doable on a PDA.

No, pleeease... I like creating new events just double-tapclicking ( )...
Or, could we have a functional substitute? like, tapping with some key pressed to keep tap double func? (Let's say cursor middlebutton pressed + tap)

sorry, i missed 2.023. I've upped 2.024 and from what i've seen so far, zautrix fixed all remaining reasons, i had to complain about.

Thanks for your great work.

a new bug in .24:
the fonts used in the configuration dialogs are at least 2 points bigger as the application font - not all options are visible and no scrollbars occurs so I can't configure until I switch to a very small font.

It does seem Autrix suddenly turn half-blind, I have no idea why the config screens' fonts are so huge, but it's not exactly part of the fixes and improvements we had discussed
Right now I'm concentrating my testing on interactivity design and interoperability. I'll probably swwitch to thorough sync testing after that.
If you guys have any area in particular you want scrutinized, let me knnow.

Well, it has crashed a few times when alarms were supposed to go off, plus there was the multiple times i rebooted to try to get the KO/pi alarm applet to show up (it still hasn't). So i guess you could say i've restarted! I remembered to disable quickload before doing the upgrade, of course.
I thought that when i started fresh with the bare cacko ROM and installed the PIMs without the cruft of the dtm/default PIMs, i'd have a lean-and-mean machine. As it turns out, i've just had lots of troubles.
Can you comment at all on why the alarm applet isn't showing up, and why the system crashes when scheduled alarms go off? I had problems before the update to .22 with alarms crashing the system after they sounded, but now they don't even sound, and the alarm applet is invisible.

I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles. I haven't had any troubles with alarms, but I use qpealarmclock for most alarms.
I'm going to test further and let you know, k?
Are you sure it's not something silly like selectin an alarm sound that no longer exists since you re-flashed Cacko? Are you also sure the Cacko flash didn't screw up? I was thinking that if the alarm applet was screwed up more people would complain, but the user base for the latest version might be limited.
In any case I'll keep you updated.

I am completely clueless what is wrong on your setup.
I am using Cacko 1.22 and have arbitrary crashes. But not on new alarms.
Now idea what the reason is.
The alarm applet shows up fine and it shows alarms w/o problems for me (and others).

but IMO it strongly suggests, that the sizing of the konfig screens does not work as well as the rest of PI. I think it has been mentioned on sourceforge

There are lots and lots of things not working properly. The bad code originally accepted in KDEPIM, the stuff resulting from the backport to QT2, and what broke when trying to adapt to the Z's interface.
The trick for Autrix ( ) is to fix stuff without having the whole playcard castle crumble around him.

Drat, i was hoping that was the easy fix. You would have to go and prevent such silly errors like that, wouldn't you?
Not long before i updated to the new Cacko and the new version of the PIMs, i finally converted all of my old Palm PIM data and created one huge ical file. It was a convoluted and laborious process, and i wonder if it introduced some data or structure that KO/Pi doesn't like. Is there a way i can "clean" the ical file to make it safe for KO/Pi?
It is possible the flash went poorly, because i've had some problems with other programs. The thing is, all of the problems started when i started trying to use alarms. I do wonder if there might be some kind of synergistic evil plot between kino and ko/pi, though. They both have their quirks.
I tried qpealarmclock before reflashing, and found that it screwed up things, so i was trying to stay away from it this time around. If it works fine for you in combination with KO/Pi, maybe i'll try installing that, instead. I just thought it would be nice to consolidate the number of programs being used.
Thanks for your feedback Z(A)utrix and ev1l. I think i'll have to reflash and reinstall the newest versions, and see what happens. I'm ready for my Z to be reliable again.
-
I dont know if this is for a reason or just an oversight. I sync my zaurus with outlook and pim/pi with sharp dtm. This works very well indeed excelt for a small irritating matter for me. My contact's mobile numbers come up as home mobile in the sharp contacts and kapi but kapi cannot show home mobile in the list view.
It would be nice if you could include home mobile as a candidate field for the list view.
thanks

I have some weird version with nice icons (not the one one maslovsky's site). I can email it to you if you'd like. Doesn't like orientation switching while it is open too much, but otherwise works fine.
I also had a bad flash once, it was very irritating. Nothing worked properly, I kept getting random cashes. Bah. Do you use Kino? I find that it messes with pretty much everything.
It would be nice if you could include home mobile as a candidate field for the list view.
We are currently arguing over email about field names and stuff like that. I'll tell more when Lutz has made up his mind. (Basically he's saying we shouldn't modify contacts without the user choosing to, it makes sense, but not always). The original problem is that the 2 apps use different default fields for the same kind of phone number.
-
I recently switched to KA/PI for my contacts as it does a fair job at reading/producing vCard files which are compatible with my cell phone.
Just a couple requests:
- when importing a vCard, if the listed category (business, family, etc.) doesn't already exist in KA/PI, it should be automatically created.
- it would be nice if email addresses could be classified in the same manner as phone numbers; for example, on my phone, an email address can be listed as 'public', 'mobile', 'home', 'school', and 'business'
- it would also be nice if KA/PI had a way of storing/editing unrecognized vCard fields; for example, my phone produces some extra fields such as 'X-GNO' and 'X-REDUCTION'. I would like to be able to import a vCard from my phone, edit it, and export it back without losing any extra information.
If any of these things have been requested already, I apologize - I admittedly did not read the entire backlog of this thread ^^;

Just ran into an apparent bug: somewhere between version 2.0.6 and 2.0.23 the ability to import vCards containing Japanese text was lost. In 2.0.23 and up, when importing a vCard containing kanji (even ones created by KA/PI), any fields with kanji either don't show up, or show up as question marks.
As I have a lot of Japanese contacts, this is kind of important to me. From looking at the CVS, I noticed that the vcardparser files have changed since 2.0.6, though I don't know if that is where the problem lies.
A fix for this would be greatly appreciated. m(__)m

I'll discuss that with zautrix. I'm writing the new Phone nuber editing behaviour now, might as well do the addresses as well. In the Old World the domain name is usually a good indication of what kind of address you're dealing with, but I don't know if that's true in Rising-Sun land as well.

You can do it manually. But after an import it should be done automatically.
I will change it to do it automatically after an import.
I do it not automatically at startup because that would be too slowon the Z.

Oops, you're right, the info is indeed saved. However, there doesn't seem to be any way to edit these extra fields from within KA/PI - a simple table with <key, value> pairs would be enough.
Really, though, the only extra field that I'd like to be able to edit is the SORT-STRING field. For Japanese names, the SORT-STRING field doubles as the Phonetic Pronunciation field; i.e. it allows you to provide the phonetic pronunciation (typically in half-width katakana) for names containing Kanji (or for English names that the Japanese user doesn't know how to pronounce).

That should work already . Does it not?
Oops, you're right, the info is indeed saved. However, there doesn't seem to be any way to edit these extra fields from within KA/PI - a simple table with <key, value> pairs would be enough.
Should be easy enough to add an extra tab, provided you can tell what the extra fields are before you load them.
-
Really, though, the only extra field that I'd like to be able to edit is the SORT-STRING field. For Japanese names, the SORT-STRING field doubles as the Phonetic Pronunciation field; i.e. it allows you to provide the phonetic pronunciation (typically in half-width katakana) for names containing Kanji (or for English names that the Japanese user doesn't know how to pronounce).
I don't know the gritty details of vCard parsing. Z can probably elaborate.
Don't get me wrong, the program is great. I'm just greedy.
That's quite OK. I never would have caught the broken multibit encoding since I never use it.
(Sorry, I always needlessly sign my posts, emails, etc.)
That's fine, it's just a bit redundant given anyone can just shift their gaze 5 cm to the left and see your name

I think I have a new buglet in 2.0.25 that was not in 2.0.23 (missed .24, you guys are fast!).
The "OK" hardware button will not handle / stop an alarm. The "Cancel" button will suspend for the indicated time period. I have to press the "OK" button on the touch screen and it works.
Note this is with a SL-5500, old tkc ROM.
Thank you!
-
There's an option for that!
Settings - Manage New Categories.
It defaults to "Add categories to the list", so if that doesn't work there's is a bug, and we will squash it, oh yes we will.
The option is set, but it doesn't seem to work.

What are you doing?
It works for me.

Please test this and let me know if it is not working.

Hi slocaus!
Quite strange.
It works for me.
What does happen when you press "OK" ?
Does the alam dialog have the keyboard input fucus (i.e. the titel is highlighted) when you press OK?

Thanks for reporting.
Yes, that is missing.
Will be in next version.

thanks a lot...
and now that you have given me an inch, i'll ask for an ell. The view that I have on kapi is the list view as well as the default view. The default sizes is 50% for each but I would like something more like 30-70. Now this can be changed int he view but it is not remembered by kapi so when I start kapi again it defaults back to 50-50. Can this state be remembered.
In kopi can the default day view show only times from day begin and day end which are entered in the preferences. the default view shows the entire 24 hours and more often than not i dont have appointments at 2 am in the morning . the time slot 8 am to 6pm fits well without a scrollbar too. If this is already possible I dont know how to set it.

If i hadn't had similar problems before the last flash, i'd feel more confident that this can be fixed by a reflash.
Yes, i have been using Kino. And yes, i have noticed that everything seems to start going wrong around the time it is installed. However, i thought it was basically the only semi-full featured media player. What do you use?

Ah, overlooked the .26 release, sorry. Importing vCards containing Japanese characters does seem to work now, thanks.
As for the issue of categories not being automatically added: I created the following simple card and imported it; the category name is saved with the card, but it does not show up in the list of categories, and hence cannot be used as a filter.
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
NAME: John Doe
FN:John Doe
N:Doe;John;;;
CATEGORIES:Custom
CLASS:PUBLIC
END:VCARD
Other than that, everything else seems to be working great (aside from not being able to manually set SORT-STRING). I noticed that some dialogs don't fit on the screen (buttons, etc. are clipped), though this may be due to the fact that I'm using the original Japanese lcfont for Qtopia (locale is set to Japanese).
Anyways, thanks for the quick fix.

I've started using KOrganizer as well... it's improved quite a bit since I last tried it (many months ago)...
In KOrganizer, is there any way to hide SyncEvents in the Month view (or, preferably, all views)? I found the option for hiding/showing them in 'What's Next', but couldn't find an option for the other views.
I realize I've been demanding a lot... just think of it as my way of showing my interest in the software. ^^;

No, it makes a lot of sense. The whole category should be invisible, since it's parts of the nuts and bolts the user shouldn't have to worry about.

I just found that someone has recently created a Japanese translation (usertranslation.txt) for KO/Pi. I was wondering if, with the creator's permission, there would be any interest in including the file as one of the default available translations?
The file is available here: http://kenr1z.seesaa.net/image/usertranslation.txt (http://kenr1z.seesaa.net/image/usertranslation.txt)
Note that it is currently not a complete translation, though from a brief glance, I'd estimate that it is 90-95% complete (does not include help files, of course).
If interested, let me know, and I will contact the author.

(Aside: It is unfortunate that there seems to be such a lack of collaboration/communication between the Japanese and non-Japanese Z communities. I often find that there are some great programs for the Z that (non-)Japanese users don't know about, or that translated/unicode-capable versions are not available.)

I'm sure it'd be a good idea to include a Japanese translation since the most Zaurus are sold there. We'd probably get a lot of feedback, and the price for that is a only an incremental increase in file size.
I do think we should wait for the translation to be 100% done before we include it.
Zautrix, are the other translations files 100% as well?

I would be great to have Japanese translation.
But the file is missing the latest translations ( appr. 250 lines ) and contains some English<-> German translations.
Please ask the author to fix this and send me the ranslated file.
You can say to him:
If he does not fix the English<-> German in the file and send it to me I will remove support for utf8 translation files in the next stable release.
Such that his work will become useless then.
And that he has to look in the germantranslation.txt file to get the latest changes.
(That is mentioned in the HowTo as well).

How about Spanish and Catalan translations?
Are you interested?
-
Hi all,
i've just had time to install 2.0.26 and
- WOW -
the configuration screen, my favourite bug so far, both in Kopi and Kapi behaves (allmost) properly. I.e. it's actually resizing for portrait-mode.
It works perfectly when changing orientation, while in config.
Only draw back in Kapi: when you call the config while already in portrait, the sizing of the contact tab seems to get something wrong, because the list boxes for name extensions are so tiny, that you'ld have to read them character by character, provided you have entries enough for rollbars to appear.
And i still miss my "NOW" button in Kopi.
Apart from that, the perfect PIM-suite still gets better.
Greetz,
j.

Hi, I don't know if this has alrady come up (i didn't find it with a search) but is it possible to turn off the time portion of events in the month view? Hi,
KO/PI 2.0.26 (fast load disabled) - 6k running SHARP ROM with Fast Kernel
One tap on an item doesn't show the details of it.
Holding the stylus on an item, I get the context menu with some options(Show,Edit,Delete,Clone,...) but I can't seem to tap on any of the options
Configure/general/views: Edit item on doubleclick(if not, show) (enabled)
What should I do to get it working ?
Thanks
-
1) One tap on an item doesn't show the details of it.
2) Holding the stylus on an item, I get the context menu with some options(Show,Edit,Delete,Clone,...) but I can't seem to tap on any of the options
3) Configure/general/views: Edit item on doubleclick(if not, show) (enabled)
4) What should I do to get it working ?
1) That's the intended behaviour
2) The behaviour changed in the before-last version (you can't hold the stylus on the item and slide it onto the menu, you have a hold, then raise the stylus and tap on the menu. I hate this, and am talking to zautrix about it to try and find a solution)
3) Double click ( == double-tap) on an agenda item will bring either the "show" or the "config" screen depending on that setting.
4) Get on your knees and pray to your deity of choice Seriously, is there anything else you're confused about, or would you just like to get the edit screen on single tap? I't break some other functionality, I think, but it might be doable.
-
Hi ev1l,
That's the intended behaviour
What's the function of tapping once then ? (I get nothing special)
I thought it would give a little summary of the item (like in Sharp calendar app or the same as tapping the "arrow-?" icon and the item) and then double-tap would show more details by the event viewer or edit it depending on the config or no double-tap but just use the hold stylus action to get the context menu.
you have a hold, then raise the stylus and tap on the menu
Thank you very much. I don't hate it, it's just different from the "normal behaviour" that exists using the main menu. I would prefer the "normal behaviour" though.
Double click ( == double-tap) on an agenda item will bring either the "show" or the "config" screen depending on that setting.
Many times the event viewer doesn't show up after the first double-tapping but after the 2nd or 3rd time. May be I am too slow ?
If "Configure/general/views: Edit item on doubleclick(if not, show)" is unchecked then once I get the event viewer window, I need to double-tap the icons at the bottom. Is that normal ? I think one tap should be enough.
I love the action of dragging the item at another place or resize it (no need to use the edit window), everything is done automatically, it's kind of cool.
Thanks
-

Yeah so would I, but apparently it doesn't work on the Zauruses with qvga screens. Dunno what exactly happens. I asked zautrix to make it an option or a model-dependent setting, but haven't received an answer yet.
Many times the event viewer doesn't show up after the first double-tapping but after the 2nd or 3rd time. May be I am too slow ?
You probably didn't tap exactly at the same spot twice. It's quite finnicky.

I think that's a problem when the "show" screen is displayed but doesn't have focus. Not sure.

Hi,
i have a minor complaint concerning the focus. Every time i start Kopi (fast load enabled) it has the focus on a todo and ennoyingly i happened to press OK or Enter accidentally and checked the todo without knowing it. Can't the initial focus be on the menu or anywhere else, less critical?.

Can't you refrain from pressing OK/Enter, or am I missing something?

Ok, version 2.0.27 is out.
Again some bugfixes and some new features (like the "now" button for jesizmi.)
(By the way, I believe I just understand the meaning of your nick, yesitsme :-) )
No more new features before the next stable release.
I hope I can release version 2.1 next week.
I will test this weekend on my 5500.
Please test and report any problems.
********** VERSION 2.0.27 ************
More bugfixes.
Added possibility to clone in KO/Pi a todo with all its subtodos.
Added config option for alternate background in list views.
Added a timetracker funtionality in KO/Pi for todos in the todo view.
If a todo is set to started and then to stopped it is saving information about the runtime in
<yourhome>/kdepim/apps/timetrackerdir.
To read, display, print this information an external program is needed which will be developed.
It will display the data in a Gantt timetable view with one row for each todo.
It will have many possibilities sorting the data after category, parent todos, attendees, ... and for creating/printing status reports/summaries.
Merging of data from different computers/users will be quite easy because every run is stored in a single file.

Hi,
In KO/PI is there :
- a function to link a file to an item ?
- the option to open the linked file with the corresponding software ?
That would be great to associate sketches I would have drawn using FreeNoteQT for example.
This app is already great anyway.
Thanks

I've just started using KDE-pim, and I'm coming from years of use of a Palm Pilot (with Datebook3), so that's coloring some of my perceptions of the PIM.
Here are some suggestions, based on KDE-Pim 2.0.6 (on an SL-5000D, OE 2.5.3, Opie 1.7):
First of all, thanks for your work in on-going development on these tools. They are my main use for the Zaurus, and it's good to have this software.
kapi
Add the abiility to right-click on the "Category" tab in kapi to quickly filter on existing
categories. (Similar to the "auto filter" option in Excel (yuck), where the existing categories are automatically available for filtering.
On my desktop (Kapi 2.0.23), I can search within all fields of an entry (including notes). On the Zaurus (version 2.0.6), searches seem to be restricted to just name, family name, category, e-mail address.
kopi
Add the option to hide "to-dos" that don't have a due date in the "What's Next" view
Possibly option for floating to-dos (ie., they've got an assigned day, but "float" to successive days if they're not completed)
Add the option to right-click on the "Category" tab to quickly filter on existing
categories.
Add the ability to right-click on the Priority tab to filter (not sort) by priority
Allow assignment of categories to applications (ie., to-do, addressbook,
calendar). Enable the option to determine which categories are visible
in which application (default to the "native" category). For example, I tend to use the "ToDo" list for general reminders that don't have a specific date--such as the names of books that I want to purchase someday, but not today, or my wife's clothing size, in case I'm ever shopping for her. These are not associated with a specific task, but could be grouped into categories like "Books to Get" or "Sizes". Those categories would only apply to the ToDo views (and application), and never need to be shown while entering an appointment or filtering in the calendar view. Similarly, a calender-specific category, like "weekly department meeting" wouldn't need to be visible in when entering (or filtering) the ToDo list.

Is that the option for pressing the Hardware Button and to just display the What's Next view? If so, how can I get this working again? I really miss the hardware button just selecting the one view (especially as I'm using it on a 5500 and hence no easy access to the keyboard).

Also, I notice that the Alarm applet has a much larger font than before for the menu - is this customisable, as it's a little large on a 5500?
