Post by: malik on January 18, 2005, 07:35:05 am
hello,

my zaurus does automatic reboots when i put it on the cradle.
i have a working usb-connection with my pc running suse 9.2
and can do ssh, sftp... has anyone else this problem?
which daemon causes the problem? i am using the
preinstalled sharp rom.

thanx

I'm having exactly the same problem, connecting to Win XP Pro (SP1).

I've only had the 6K two weeks, but I have installed and sometimes uninstalled several software packages in that time.  I'm suspicious of Wellenreiter and its dependencies, but haven't tried removing it yet.

I have left mine plugged in at work all day and have not seen the reboot ever happen.

I don't have wellenreiter, I DID install kismet, but haven't gotten it working.

My 6k has never rebooted spontaneously.

Wellenreiter seems to be innocent.  I uninstalled it and the libraries on which it depends.  I'm still getting a continuous reset cycle whenever the 6000 is in its cradle.

i have to solve this problem, i also use kismet. maybe, i will make
a backup, try the original sharp configuration or flash openzaurus.
i hope that this will give me some hints...

Have you had any luck, Malik?  I have removed several more software packages without seeing any change.

I have discovered, though, that after a full reboot, the 6000 usually can have one successful cradle connection.  If I try a second time, without first rebooting, it will crash repeatedly until removed from the cradle.

I have noticed, too, that what happens is not actually a reset, if I understand that term correctly.  My guess is that it's actually a Qtopia crash.  I don't get the "please wait a few minutes" screen.  I do see the console screen with the "wait" message, followed by the "please wait about 30 seconds" screen.  Then it cycles back to the console and the "wait" message for another cycle.

Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with Linux to know if I'm using the right terms, but I think the difference might be significant.

@RobbH> hello, thanx for your infos. yesterday i did a backup and tried
the original configuration of the sharp rom, no reboots or resets or whatever:-)
first i thought that the power management makes problems, maybe the screensaver ...
but then i got some information on the console: modprobe can't locate
the wlan module. it has to be some package we installed, that makes the
whole trouble. can you please post your installed packages? than i can compare
it with my configuration and maybe we get closer to a solution...

Malik, my problems seem to have been caused by opie-clipboardapplet_1.0.3.  It is apparently incompatible with Sharp ROMs.  I have uninstalled it, and I can now use the cradle.  I hope this helps.
