Title: Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe (openttd) 0.3.5 Avail
Post by: tovarish on January 19, 2005, 08:03:58 am
Hi,

i asked

"josh" (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php? showtopic=5139&b=1&st=&p=&#entry)

for his openttd patches and have used them to compile 0.3.5.
I now need some brave souls to test it for me and report bugs.

Please note that you shoul try and compare with the linux or windows version of openttd too so as to only report the zaurus specific bugs.

I am uploading a tgz here (sorry no ipk yet). unpack it anywhere (also on card) and start

./openttd

Note that you need the original files from the game in the data dir as mentioned here. Music is not available yet, I am trying to see if I can use timidity for it.

http://svn.openttd.org/cgi/viewcvs.cgi/*ch...runk/readme.txt (http://svn.openttd.org/cgi/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/trunk/readme.txt)

thanks,
tovarish

PS for some reason can't attach so need hoster(s)

It runs perfectly and the sound is SOOOO much better.  I have it packaged here:

Since the data files are copyrighted you will have to either purchase a copy of Transport Tycoon Deluxe from this page:

http://www.tycoongames.net/buyadvice.html (http://www.tycoongames.net/buyadvice.html)

Or be a criminal (in the US anyway) and download it from Usenet (try alt.binaries.oldgames).  If you don't know what Usenet is I'm not going to explain.

You might want to check out this site for mor info on OpenTTD:

http://wiki.openttd.com/index.php/Main_Page (http://wiki.openttd.com/index.php/Main_Page)

stupkid: FYI the IPK definitely does not work if you try to install to a SD card (but I got around it manually).

Looks very good so far.

I'll take a look at the package.  I was a bit zealous to get it packaged since it works so well.

Thanks to Josh and Tovarish!

Updated the feed.  This package:

http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed/openttd-engine_0.3.5-2_arm.ipk (http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed/openttd-engine_0.3.5-2_arm.ipk)

works for external and internal storage installs.

installed it on c3000 (internal memory) with original sharp rom but unfortunately it doesn't run. it will load (hourglass) and that's it. hourglass vanished, nothing happens.
even more unfortunate that also 0.3.2.1 didn't really work.

has anyone managed to get openttd run on a c3000?

maybe something to do with the vesion of sdl you have. I can suggest somethings
open a console window and

cd /opt/QtPalmtop/openttd
./openttd -m null -d 5

could you tell me the debug info printed to the console window

at the moment i'm using
libsdl1.2.6-zports5
libsdl-mixer1.2.5-cvs1
are there other versions which are more recommendable?

this actually brings me to my next problem: no midi in openttd (music files are in /data and track names are shown in the game - sound is perfectly ok though). i thought libsdl-mixer should take care of that, but somehow it doesn't.

to wooster
am trying to get midi to work with timidity. warning installation of timidity itself is a bit complicated. it doenst use sdl-mixer so installing it is of no consequence. as of now midi will have to be missed, it will make it slower anyways.

to denis
am sorry am using a windows box to do my cross-compilation and the pdaxrom sdk isint available for windows yet. what i could do is make the source available and someone else can compile openttd for pdaxrom.

Your packages file in CackoFeed tells us to put the files here:

but they really need to go here:

/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/openttd/data

Minor issue, but some of us are slow some days.

At the risk of getting wrath from the Copyright Gods, I suggest looking at "abandonware" sites on Google if you don't have Usenet. I even can give you a direct link (http://www.abandonia.com/game.php?ID=240) to an abandonware site (I actually found several with TT on it).

thanks sounwave. I got it working on 6k. fyi, the data folder is at /home/QtPalmtop/lib/openttd/data/ on my 6k if installed into internal memory

I'm thrilled with the nice details and lookings of openTTD on the 640x480 vga screen. I'm a sucker of strategy games (can't imagine how many hours I'd been spent on railroad tycoon 2). This is a killer game for me. Sounns is perfect, I don't mind the lack of midi. I'd rather lisene to my mp3 if it doesn't slow openttd down too much. Installation to my sd card still had problem "ipkg says somthing went wrong".

I have never played this game but I was curious... so all that I've done is edit the binary (built by tovarish) to change the resolution to 320*240 and it appears to work.

So if you install the ipk (built by stupkid) in this thread on a 5600 with the Sharp rom (I use the special kernel) and replace the binary with the 'test binary' I edited, you can open the game. It looks and sounds good on the 5600 but I'm not sure about the keymapping or the right clicks?(never played it)

I realize that openttd should be recompiled for the smaller resolution but this was just a quick dirty hack. I don't know if it is arm5 only (5500?), but I will attach it here if anyone wants to try it out on a 5600 that knows how to play the game.

If you try it and it works or not, let us know.

You can't attach gunzips here so I will zip it.

Edit:
I have installed OTTD on my linux desktop to see how to play this game. After taking a look at it I now see that the binary I had attached was not playable with the reduced resolution... because you can't access all the options needed to play. So I have removed it to prevent any confusion.

Hey, Im a newbie and im trying to get openttd to work. But i cant copy the files for some reason. Here is what i type:

cp /hdd3/Documents/tycoon/sample.cat /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/openttd/data/sample.cat

When i do this i get:

cp: unable to open '/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/openttd/data/sample.cat' : No such file or directory

If i try to do:

cp /hdd3/Documents/tycoon/sample.cat /opt/QtPalmtop/openttd/data/sample.cat

I get:

cp: unable to open '/opt/QtPalmtop/openttd/data/sample.cat' : Permission denied

Im running this on a C3000 with the Cacko Beta Rom.

Im not sure if the cp comand is the comand i should be using.

But it seems to have worked in other instances. So please let me know if anyone has any ideas on this.

Thanks,
NewBie

I don't have a C3000 and it's been a while since I tried this on a 5xxx but...

You may have to create the directory

mkdir 'whatever and wherever'

And you may have to cd to the directory before you cp:

cd /mnt/hdd3/Documents/tycoon    'or wherever it's at' then:

cp sample.cat 'to the directory you created'

No, I don't have a C3000 to check it. In the first page of this thread read all of Bertram Wooster's post... he has it working on a C3000.

1. i can not load any saved scenario's that were on the windows openttd.
2. i can not load any saved games that were originally saved on my pc.

I keep getting an error which says.

Anyone had this error ? know how to fix it?
