Title: Sdl Issues?
Post by: murple on January 20, 2005, 01:29:27 pm
For many games out of the feed I have some annoying display issues.  Doom and Exult in particular.

Whenever I start them up, all is fine and the game loads.  Then the Qtopia bar pops up in magnified mode and the whole thing locks up.  If I hit something like the calender button it goes back to 640x480 and shows the Qtopia desktop with the game now unfrozen running in the corner.

Anybody else have this problem? or even better a solution?

I'm running on an 860 with the Cacko 1.22 and everything is in ram.

Hmm, there are a few things that are wrong with the startup scripts I put in the packages.  I'll fix it and update the packages.  This is kind of weird as I tested these packages, but I changed something at some point that broke things.  I'll let you know when they are fixed.

Thanks for reporting it!

A new version of exult is up on the feed.  I will need to repack doom and quake probably.  Due to various behaviours in Qtopia and the Add/Remove programs app I have to write startup scripts the first time most games are run to setup the environment.  I forgot to update them in the days before the release after making some ROM changes.  So, they are broken in some ways.  I will get to doom and quake fixed as soon as I can.

Enjoy...

Holy crap! thanks so much it works like a charm now.  I wasnt expecting 640x480 to boot.  Its a bit choppy at that res,  but damn!

Thanks for the quick fix on that.

BTW when I switch the settings in Exult to go 320,240 is messes the pointer control up.  Is there a command to change the res that i should put in before exult starts or something?

thanks

Yeah in my experience you will have to completely remove the 'Display=' line in the /opt/QtPalmtop/app/Games/exult.desktop.  Then launch the Tab Settings app, Click OK, and then Yes to make changes.  Then then 320x240 should work with the pointer.  The problem is that there is a disconect I think between what pointer data is being sent to Exult and what Exult is expecting.  So, if you want to run the app in 320x240 you need to have the icon display in magnified mode and then change Exult's settings.

If you have problems changing the res in exult you can edit the <width> and <height> settings in /home/zaurus/.exult.cfg.

Hope this helps.

Man, do you live on these forums?

That fixed the pointer timing, but now its rotated.  Like up&down goes right&left,  and vise versa.  hehe

sorry to be a pain in the ass =)

I use C860 with Cacko1.22 and only apps from cacko feed. So my zaurus is pure Cacko.

I would like to add, that scummvm does not continue to run after a suspend. After pressing the power button to continue with scummvm, the display looks weird: even lines are from the game, odd lines are from QTopia and everything is 90 degree rotated.
Usually I pull out the SD-Card with the game data. this will make scummvm crash and Qtopia is shown again.

I don't know if this is a bug or just 'normal' behavior.

Greetings

Christoph Held

BTW: Cacko is realy a great ROM.
