Title: 2.2 Gb Cf Microdrive $82.50
Post by: nicklogan on January 25, 2005, 05:00:14 pm
The model is a  Magicstor 2.2GB CF+ Type II MicroDrive. Anyone know if these will work in the SL5500? Guess I'll find out - couldn't resist.

Read the reviews here, http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/ratin...5531/id_type=M/ (http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/rating_getprodrev.php/product_id=2825531/id_type=M/), before deciding.

Personally, I prefer to Hitachi Microdrive, which I have been using without any problem for the past 10 months.

I have one. i hate it.
It causes errors on the bus of just about anything it is connected to..sometimes. it wants just a tiny fraction more voltage than cf spec, and so freaks out in unpredictable ways (usually involving appearing to be mounted but not transferring files, yet refusing to unmount)
I had it going ok in openzaurus on my 5600, but only by doing carefully timed manual mounts, unmounting before suspend and that sort of thing.
on my 6000 it is just awful.

The drive arrived and I've been using for about a week (SL5500) with no problems. Just popped in and it appeared under /mnt/cf and is usable with all applications. Freizugheit, maybe you got a bad one or damaged it.

Nah,  the 5500 is the ojnly Z it is reputed to work right itn.  It sometimes works ok in some card readers.  It is the voltage issue.

I use mine in my C-860 all the time and it works just fine.  Slower than my Hitachi 4GB units, so I just use it for audiobooks and such like.  Not fast enough for movies without "glitching".  Otherwise it's been quite stable and usable.
