Post by: keef on January 29, 2005, 10:09:30 am
Hi

i have installed File Manager (and checked execute with root priveleges).
I can navigate and open files and send them to a text editor however
when they open i am unable to edit them - no cursor appears and i am unable to
make any changes.

What files are you trying to edit?

They might be on the read-only portion of the filesystem and you won't be able to edit them, even as root, till you remount the filesystem read-write

Try useing zeditor to modify it.  It's a very easy to use, free text editor.  Just open it through the program and edit away

Hope that allows you to edit it!!!

Thanks for the replies.

The file Manager seems to be called just that: File Manager

I will try the one you mention.

Thanks again

I have SL5500 with Sharp Rom 3.13 and I can tell you from experience that the stock file manager and text editor are, to say the least, JUNK.
This file manager will only open text files with the stock editor, and they have to have a .txt extension, or they don't save right, plus some files don't show the text at all.
I use Tree!Explorer Plus file manager. It comes with its own text editor, plus you can "send to" any editor or other program you wish (configurable).
I couldn't get along without it.

Just be advised the editor is limited until you register it.

You can't beat the registered version. But you need to make sure the TE manager has root to work with some files. If you don't allow TE editor root also, you sometime can send it a file from the manager & edit it but not be able to save the edited version. Options are to Save As or jump back to the file in the manager & change permissions to allow the editor to save.

On the top of my own must have list of utils for the C860.

Anyone know how to replace the Japanese text (or rather empty boxes) with English text in the Tree Explorer menus?
