there was a largely ignored thread on this, that left me with the impression that 6000 support was to be considerd after this release. is 6000 support being considered for pdaXrom?
congrats on the release btw.

Hi Laze, Hi developers,
GREAT to have RC9 ... waiting for flshing at the moment :-) ...
... but what abvout cross compiling SDK for RC9 ... Link under download / RC9 / ... is broken :-( ... same as for RC5 ? ...
... Report of great new functions and maybe some small problems will follow ... soon.
- here a very small one first ... inside description for flashing :-) ...
...
sl-c760/c860 only:
choose option 3 NAND Flash Utils
choose option 3 fix sharp loader NAND 64MB limit ()
...
chose option 1 resize root partition
enter a desired size (somewhere 45 and 120 depending on your needs)
reboot
...
I think there is size of root partition from 45 upto 121 ...
- configuration of usbd under x for network ... entering gateway / dns / ... right bounded numbers (cursor on the left side) ... ?!?!
Thanks very much
Martin

Fixed the link to the SDK.
Regarding the 6000 support we are current looking into and aswell SL3000 - normal paypal and ikobo donations goes to these things..

Is it nessasary to repeate these steps with each new version?

I can't install RC9 on my C750 and I'm worried that it is broken.
I tried following the directions and repartitioned flash to 45MB. Flashing ends w/o error, but after I install (1 in the menu) and reboot, I just get the Please Wait... screen forever.
Some error flashes by too fast to read at the bottom of the screen during unpacking system files, but everything appears normal until I reboot and get stuck at the Please Wait... screen.
I think the error said something like can't cd to /tmp1/home/something...
I tried repeating the process with 46 and 47MB. (Is 47 max. for this device?)
There was no change.
I used the menu to get to the shell one time and at the end of the output of dmesg is some error about bad blocks at some hex number 0xsomething.
I was running cacko 1.22 and things seemed ok before.
Help!

Hi it works fine and more fast than RC8 on a SL-C700.
Some things about:
Upgrade from RC8 with feeds, does not work well, (example startx command disappear and appear startx.old).
Finally I have flashed all again but:
First I had put root partition to the maximal 47Mb. When all instalation procces finalice, a kernel panic appear (something with a sector, I dont remember well).
Then I had resize root partition to 46Mb (max-1Mb) and all goes normally.
I have not tryed this RC more time but I feel it more fast! :-)
Very good ROM!! is my favorite. I will make a donation early.
Excuse me for my bad english.
Igor.

No it is not, in fact if you like the original partition scheme, you don't have to do this at all.

Something strange is going on here. I got it working but I don't understand what the problem is.
After giving up on pdax and deciding to go back to cackoQT 1.22, I rebooted and prepared to install cackoQT. When I did the flash repartition from the cackoQT installer and rebooted, pdax started fine. I'm a little confused about what happens during the installation process, so I fear I may have installed some mixture of the two ROMs.

I, too, have a C700 and had a kernel panic at 47Mb, and I think I had a kernel panic once at 46Mb. The big problem, however, was "out of space" errors at 45Mb. It apperars that the ROM will flash without errors, and will boot, but doing almost anything leads to "out of space" errors the next time you boot.
Also, RC9 doesn't recognize my Netgear MA701 card, which RC8 and before had no trouble with. I wonder if everything is installing on my 45Mb partition? In any case, it appears that there is no room left to write necessary configuration files after flashing.
Has anyone else got RC9 running on a C700?

Hi Laze,
Just went ahead and PayPal'd you to help support pdaXrom for the SL-C3000!
Thanks!

Great! I did an `ipkg upgrade' and now everything's broken! AHrgh!! I don't even have the `rm' command!
I have that startx.old problem as mentioned-- but I really really really don't want to reflash! Is there another way to fix this so I'm able to keep my settings and preserve the legwork I did of customizing?
If I have to I will reflash, but first I'd like to back-up my data. Especially, how do I backup settings and data in Ko/Pi?
thanks!

Ok, I fixed the problem(s) (I think). First of all I should say that I tried to upgrade from RC8 to RC9 by using `ipkg upgrade' then I ran into problems; here's how to fix them:
First for some reason when I did the upgrade busybox was not upgraded-- there was a message: "Not downgrading package busybox from 1.00-pre5 to 1.00". I don't know why ipkg thinks that a prerelease is a newer than a final release but anyway...
After the auto-upgrade I tried to upgrade busybox manually but I kept getting the message "/usr/bin/ipkg: line 991: rm: command not found". I looked in /bin and saw lots of programs but not `ln' or `rm'. So to get those back I issued the commands:
# busybox ln -s busybox ln
and
# ln -s busybox rm
*you might want to reboot after that, but I don't know if it's necessary*
After that things were a little less crazy. I could finally ssh back into the zaurus. I did that and was somehow able to upgrade busybox, by doing something like:
# ipkg install busybox
[it downloaded but couldn't install-- some conflict]
# ipkg remove busybox
# ipkg install busybox
Don't ask me why, but doing this worked and the right version of busybox was installed.
I still had problems though (one was still unknown to me at this point). The next one was just that startx.old thing all I did was copy that to startx. (I don't know if that's a good thing to do but there was no startx(.new) that I could find...)
The last problem (so far) was the fact that the /etc/pango/pango-querymodules file was completely empty. Apparently, none of the python configuration apps will work without this file (like datentime.py and looknfeel.py). So to fix this I did:
# pango-querymodules > /etc/pango/pango.modules
Then, and only then, did things start to behave themselves...
I hope that helped someone. There maybe other problems that I don't know about-- maybe the developers can have some input?

I had the same busybox and pango issues yesterday after doing an ipkg update / upgrade and was able to come up with the same solutions as the previous post. All is well now except:
The tab key in a shell or in a gui app (such as aterm and abiword) acts as the caps lock key - very frustrating when attempting tab completion in the shell.
Also, the FN+ click in the gui doesn't produce a right click as it has in the past.
Are other people seeing these issues?
I have not done a reflash - trying to avoid it for right now...
Thanks for all the hard work!

45MB root partition seemed to be the magic number for me with RC8. Nothing more, nothing less. I have a C700 and I haven't tried it with RC9, but I had the same problem with rc5 and 8. Hope that helped a bit. (maybe not, if the pack got bigger than 45 )

So, when you say "Ratoc USB not implemented yet :-) - ipk update soon" - what's going on with that? There's been talk for a long, long time but it continues not to work. I've messed with it, had my Linux-guru friend mess with it, and even corresponded with the author of the driver... I can't get it working. You guys owe me nothing, obviously, but the Ratoc USB Host is the #1 thing holding me back from using my Zaurus like I planned to, and making me look wistfully at other ROMs. Please, I beg you, fix this!

Latest builder sources and patches for rc9 - only for developers:
Sooonn!!!!
I know the source is 63 terabyte and only Sash has it but he only got a 0,01kb/sec internet and it's not ready yet and it will wreck my Z and burn my house, but it would be really nice if the dev. team would finally put the sources up on some website...
Thanks,
Zumi

I just tried flashing from Cacko to pdaXrom and found on my 750 that the old Cacko kernel was still in place & of course couldn't boot.
Looking into the tools.tar I found that the C700 & C750 kernel directories are empty. So I extracted the 760 kernel moved it to the root of my CF , removed the initrd.bin and used an old updater.sh from OZ that only does a kernel & initrd.bin flash, no fancy GUI like Sashz built. It flashed the kernel and now it booted into pdaXrom.
Playing with it now & everything ok so far.
Upgrading from from RC8 shouldn't be a problem as it looks like the kernel is same so it wouldn't matter if it failed to load a kernel. Wierd thing is that I got no error from Sashz's flash GUI.
Cheers,
Jerry

Jerrybme - thanks for this update.. Might be the reason for many problems and other stuff - the corrected version will be online ASAP.
Zumi: Downloading the sources after the rom, speed is at 300 B/s now :-(

Hi,
Anyone notice that the cursor on some gtk text field (like the gaim message input field) will align right. If I input numeric character, the inputs and the cursor will keep align right. If I input letters, the inputs will align to the left. Any solutions to fix it? Thanks.

I can't say why the ipkg update / upgrade didn't do the trick, but re-flashing with the latest RC9 solved my problems. Thanks guys!
Now if someone better than me can just get reliable pdf viewing, I'll be in z heaven!

Am I the only one with Package manager problems in RC9? Namely, the new package manager GUI sucks now big time!
The old version showed the package version number on the same line as the package name, so I could easily tell the version number of installed and available packages. Now I have to do a double click, and what is most annoying, the double click does not work in the "available" tab.
For example, I'm trying to update kdepim from 1.9.5 to 2.0.1, which is in unstable. I uninstall 1.9.5, but when I go to the available tab in the GUI I have no way to check which of the listed two kdepim entries is version 1.9.5 and which is 2.0.1. And whichever I choose from the GUI, it installs the old 1.9.5.
The feed databases are OK (i.e. feed0 has 1.9.5 and feed1 has 2.0.1), I manually checked that. The only way I could get the 2.0.1 was to remove feed0, so it sees only the feed with the newer package.
EDIT: OK, now I got it. I also needed to do ipkg update & upgrade on top of the fresh RC9 flash to get the package manager that works. Still, I like the "all the info at a glance" GUI better.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=65183\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
How confusing
I saw openbox themes but all of the calls to matchbox related stuff in mbsession threw me off the track: setting the background, orientation & other stuff.
So... is it openbox that is the window manager?
Cheers,
Jerry
-
So... is it openbox that is the window manager?
Yes, pdaXrom uses the openbox window manager and the matchbox apps such as the desktop and panel. That might sound crazy, but the reason is quite simple - the matchbox window manager displays all windows maximised since it is built for embedded devices. While the Zaurus is an embedded device, I'm sure you'll all agree that pdaXrom turns it into more of a mini-laptop and so the traditional embedded interface really isn't appropriate.

So... is it openbox that is the window manager?
Hey! I didn't put much (hopefully this will get better) on the wiki page, but this info was
the first thing I put see: pdaxrom environment (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Pdaxrom_Environment)
That's why I think having a wiki page is important, you could have found this on these forums also but with some documentation pages it's just better.

Hi ...
did the "ipkg update" and "ipkg upgrade" only with stable feed after flashing the newly uploaded RC9 (I call it RC9.1) ...
... upgrading of pango_1.8.0 giving errors like this ...
--------------------
/usr/bin/pango-querymodules: relocation error: undefined symbol g_fopen in /usr/lib/libpango_1.0.so.0 ...
--------------------
Any other having problems with that?
I use partition root 110 MB / user 11 MB
Thanks

I had to reflash a few times before I got it working well - do NOT do ipkg upgrade with rc9, it seems to break it!
Just load the pkgs you want from the current feed and perhaps some of the unstable too (kdepim 2.01 worked as did tuxcards, portabase and vnc) if you are brave. I have not had any issues since, apart from bluetooth but that's my own lack of understanding.

@markbedish
THANKS to you ... this was quite the quickest answer I got for a question :-)
Yes, I will try it again ... I think gtk2 / glib2 / pango will make the problems on "ipkg upgrade" ...
Yes I like to have kdepim from unstable feed too ... because I really want to have sync my pc with korganizer and kaddress ... hope it works ... but I have some problems understanding the thing with konnektor :-( any good explanation or how to?
Thanks
Martin
-
Martin, if have some problems with kdepim , please make a new thread, even in an other forum like Software or on the forum at http://www.pi-sync.net/ (http://www.pi-sync.net/).
It's just better for the others as it is easier to find the info afterwards but also for you, as users of kdepim (whatever the rom they use, not to mention that zautrix the main developer of kdepim is quite active here ) will most likely read a thread with kdepim, not the 3rd page of "Kathrin Rc9 Out"
-
@pgas
Thanks for your answer ...
Yes I read some forum and lists for KDEpim and pi-sync ... my post before is more like a small comment an kdepim ... hope say will move it to stable thread ... I'll test kdepim and sync functions at the moment ...
Thanks
Martin

Dear pdaxrom team :
thanks a lot for this new version, as usual, you did a great job !
yet there still is a pb when you try to install it on a 750 with only a root partition and no /usr (which by the way is becoming more and more important as the rom size is going bigger and bigger).
when installing the rom on a single partion c750, you get stuck into a VFS error (unable to mount root on i don't remember what). The only way to have it working is to use Hine's hack :
On Linux PC(or your Z)
1: Extract tools.tar
tar xvf tools.tar
2: Copy the C760 kernel on the C750 kernel.
cp ./tools/kernel-c760/zImage.bin ./tools/kernel-c750/zImage.bin
3: Remake tools.tar
mv tools.tar tools.tar.orig
tar cvf tools.tar ./tools/
4: You will use this tools.tar to install RC8.
On Your C750
5: Boot Installer
6: Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "3 Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit (SL-C760/C860 only)"
7: Reboot Installer
8: Change root partition size
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "1 Resize root partition"
Input "57"
9: Reboot Installer
10: Install RC8
Select "1 Install new ROM"
which uses the c760 kernel instead of the c750 one.
NOTE : File names have changed since RC8, so this hack has to be editted, but the global idea is here.
Do you think you can do something about this in future release ?
I hope this will be usefull for someone, it was for me...
-
Alan - i know you contacted Sash and we will be using this in the next update.
-
another idea is to have a rom without apps .make an sd card ext2 or 3 and load needed apps to that.
this way the rom would be small

This is exactly what I would like.

most of the preinstalled apps can just be uninstalled and installed back to sd card but we will build a slim line version soon.

if ipkg upgrade gives you error while upgrading pango, simply remove and install pango after the upgrade sequence finished. Solves, in the mean time
