No, it's not out yet, but I'm planning to release a small update, whch will allow kino2 to support most of recent Zaurus models (5600, 7x0, 860, 6000, 3000). This may be possible thanks to the new mplayer release (see https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...iew=getnewpost) (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10439&view=getnewpost)), which should run an all models with PXA processor. Of course the best performance can be achived with hardware specific video drivers (w100 and C300), but 5600 and 6000 could still benifit at least by having a better media player
Now, since I can only test on C750, I need some help from you. I need owners of 5600, 6000 and C3000 to download new mplayer versions and try them out. C300 owners should use their native version, while 5600 and 6000 users should run mplayer with -vo fbdev option. What I need as ta result is to know which options work best on other Z models and update kino2 to support them.
Options to try are:
-dr
-fs
-double
-vop rotate=1
Also, try to play both audio and video files.
If I don't get any usefull results, well, kino2 will still only support C7x0/C860 models...
-
Will do. But, er... those binaries, how do i make them run? I dl'd the fst math version, renamed it both mplayer and mplayer.bin (at different times) and could not get it to go...
I am sure it is a stupid oversight on my part, and i'll work on it, but insight would be appreciated.
adf
6000l fast kernel both with and without ffpe--trying to see what the difference really is.
-
6000 please! piror to play around. I have Kino0.3 GUI and the mplayer was the one come with kino0.22.
I downloaded anrp's first versions. replaced the /usr/local/bin/mplayer. seems working ok with kino0.3 GUI. even tried atty's newest mplayer. mixed feelings. Haven't been able to get fullscreen+scale 640x480 working in landscape so far. The original mplayer (from kino0.22) handles anrp's movie in that mode pretty decently. will try anrp's second version soon. will try play from console and report back. Malslovsky, can you care to teach me how to benchmark it?
-
ok. i was being retarded. got it going, using the mplayer.conf and fb.modes stuff from the 6000 video thread.
so far, given that setup, it looks maybe little cleaner than the 0.9pre10 I was using, as to speed, i have a 20fps rip on board that doesn't really look less jerky, but that could be my encoding. it does seem to handle framedrop better though...
I'll check with a full frame 320x240.
-
using the "fastmath" version
ok. on a 23.976fps 320x240 xvid4/ogg .ogm file encoded with transcode in 1 pass dvdrip at 200k vid 56k audio there were imperfections in the playback motion -again using fb.modes and the thread supplied mplayer.conf(fullscreen rotated). this was with the "fast kernel noffpe" no overclock.
With the ffpe version of same kernel:
not really any discernable improvement. very nice, but still the odd bit of "stickiness"
I can't reall tell between this and 9pre10. it might be my mplayer conf making things that way though.
I'll keep at it, any ideas?
-
I recently bought C3000, so where to download it? Thanks!
-
did it with all he options suggested in your 1st post. loooked like the same thing as w/ the mplayer.config&fb.modes (ofcourse those a re still on my machine, but command line overrides, right?

On C6000, run the followng command:
mplayer -dr -vo fbdev -fs -double -vop rotate=1 -benchmark
After playback finishes, mplayer will print some benchmarking numbers
You may ommit -vop rotate=1 depending on your video orientation (portrate or landscape)
Also, add -af resample=44100:0:0 option if audio frequency in your video file is different form 44100

Yes, command line options override config files. Note that youmay not get too much of performance boost on C6000 because there is no hardware specific video driver for C6000. But still new mplayer version has a lot of bug fixes, features, it's OS independent (should work under both Qtopia and OZ) and faster even if not very much.
Also, I'd suggest to use the following sample movie for etsts:
[a href=\"http://picard.exceed.hu/samples/RL_MQB_320x240_512_128.avi]http://picard.exceed.hu/samples/RL_MQB_320x240_512_128.avi[/url]
This is 320x240 512 kb/s, 128 Kb/s audio

One more thing - C5600, C3000 and C6000 owners, please, do the following for me:
1. Install kino2 0.4
2. Download the following binary (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2) and copy it to /home/QtPalmtop/bin, override existing file
3. Launch kino2 and let me know if it starts at all or not.
There is a problem in kino 0.4 such that it woun't start at all on other Zaurus models. So I wanted to know if I was able to fix it or not in the first place...

I tried it! Both versions work greatly on my C3000! The playback is smooth and clear, and the sound is crispy! Terrific job!
One more suggestion, when the updated Kino2 is out, could you add as many video and audio decoders as possible? So Kino2 can deal with a variety of movie format, like real media, quicktime, Thanks a lot!

OK, how did you launch mplayer, with which parameters?
Did you try updated kino2 binary? Does it run?

No, all codecs are built into mplayer, kino2 is only a GUI fontend. You can contact mplayer maintainers and ask them to add those codecs.
-
I'll test some more when I get home from work. I can definitely see the value of distributing a static mplayer with kino though. Has anyone contacted cwaig about this? He had been making some progress on the 6000 video acceleration, I think.

I backed up my OZ install on my 5600 and installed the Sharp rom v1.32 with the Special Kernel v1.3 today. After testing both mplayers I have found that the best video and audio was achieved by using the mplayer-static-softvfp-ipp-2 with the RL_MQB_320*240.avi test video. I did not overclock the Z for this test. I will attach the benchmark using the best settings and a screenshot of the newKino2_0.4 binary on a 5600 for you. Regardless of what the benchmark says it looks and sounds great.
I hope this helps you Maslovsky and please post if you need anything else checked.
Thanks maslovsky and anrp!

On my SL-C3000 with the orignal Sharp ROM, the original kino2 0.4 does not start at all. After replacing the binary kino2 file, it can start now. But when I tried to open any MPEG and AVI file and press the play button, nothing happened! This is true with the MPEG file which can be played by the default movie player and the japanese animation AVI file on that MIT guy's mplayer site which can be played very well his mplayer. I checked out the console output but there were no any error messages generated when playing movie files.
Hope this information helps!

Yes it does! This means I found out why kino didn't start at all.
As for the AVI files not playing - this is because mplayer included with kino4 is for w100 video chip. Just wait for version 0.4.1 - other Zaurus models will be supported

All that I've installed is the binary out of your ipk and opened with terminal.

OK, thanks, will need to paly wih the margins and spacing...

I launched mplayer from the Terminal on my C3000 and I didn't use any parameters, I just typed:
mplayer-static-softvfp-ipp-nofastmath-2 xxx.mpg/avi
and it works! The only problem is that there no window frame around the movie area, such that I cannot move it. And the movie area is a rectangle at the upper left corner.
I will post some outputs of kino2 you want when I get back home.

For C3000 it's best to use special version of mplayer for that device. Install these two packages:
http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus%2Fmplayer&openfile=mplayer-bvdd_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)

Then reboot your zaurus.
After Zaurus boot, execute the folowingas root:
chmod a+s /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/mplayer
Launch mplayer using -vo bvdd parameter instead of -vo w100 or -vo fbdev

was there anyhting else that should have shown up?
I have been pretty much working and sleeping this week....Didn't benchmark yet, but did use the latest optimized binary. It was good. It seemed to be using libvorbis, though. wouldn't tremor have been faster? Or am I confused? at any rate -ao sdl was good, slightly better than -ao oss in my 1 sample subjective test... but that is very different from 0.9pe10, which didn't do sdl audio at all. I was unable to do -vo sdl, but that may be the sdl I'm using (though it mostly seems to be an improvement)

What about [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10293&view=findpost&p=63827]this[/url] post, where someone said that the Zaurus plays fastest at 48kHz? Has anyone tried this and can corfirm/deny it?
-
eeeek!
i rip at freq24000 bitrate56kbits ogg w/ dvd::rip
I kinda doubt my Z has the horsepower to play video, handle sync and resample 24k to 41 in real time.
theoretically halving the 48k a52 rate to 24k makes sync easier... i have had fewer problems since i started doing things that way, but my evidence is simply anecdotal.

I'm not sure there will be a significant difference between 44 and 48 Khz, but you can try for yourself. Encode a sample video with difference audio bitrates and run mplayer benchmarks

God, it's scary! I downloaded the bvdd version of mplayer and tried it on my C3000. Not only it cannot play the movie files which can be played by that MIT version, but also it crashed my C3000, the screen gradually whited out and the machine stopped responding. I had to hard reset it. Scary!
For C3000 it's best to use special version of mplayer for that device. Install these two packages:
http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus%2Fmplayer&openfile=mplayer-bvdd_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)

OK, thanks. I will have some time tomorrow to play with kino2. Hopefully will release a version, which runs on all these models. Can't promise smooth operation on 5600, 6000 and 3000 though
-
OK, try this new kino2 package:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk)
Note that mplayer is now a separate package, so make sure to install one of the following:
For C3000:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mplayer-bvdd_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/bvdd_0.1.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/bvdd_0.1.0-1_arm.ipk)
For 5600, 6000 and C7x0/860:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mplayer-w100_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)
The w100 package includes latest built from anrp, so VBR MP3 files should play properly.
Kino2 uses ATI w100 driver for C7x0/860 and defaut fbdev for 5600 and 6000 models. For C3000 bvdd driver is selected.
I've updated layout a bit, so kino2 GUI should look better on 5600, but will probably still have problems.
Feedback is welcome...

The BVDD version of mplayer does not work on my C3000, I don't know why. If I use it to play a standard mpeg file without any parameters or with "-vo fbdev" parameter, it complains that "illegal instructions" and something like "the program is not compiled for this processor". If I add "-vo bvdd" parameter to play the movie file, at the first time running, after ouput some frame information, it becomes very very slow and no movie image is created. If I run the program again, my machine is crashed by it! This crash can be repeated every time! It means that there is still some problems with the bvdd.o driver. Can anyone report this problem to the author of bvdd driver?
Therefore when I launched kino2 to play a movie file, it can open the file but after I pressed the play button, nothing happened.
However I can use the w100 version or the MIT version of mplayer with the option "-vo fbdev" to play movie files without problem, so I am wondering if kino2 can use the w100 version with "fbdev" option to play movies on C3000 model?
OK, try this new kino2 package:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk)
Note that mplayer is now a separate package, so make sure to install one of the following:
For C3000:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mplayer-bvdd_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/bvdd_0.1.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/bvdd_0.1.0-1_arm.ipk)
For 5600, 6000 and C7x0/860:
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mplayer-w100_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk)
The w100 package includes latest built from anrp, so VBR MP3 files should play properly.
Kino2 uses ATI w100 driver for C7x0/860 and defaut fbdev for 5600 and 6000 models. For C3000 bvdd driver is selected.
I've updated layout a bit, so kino2 GUI should look better on 5600, but will probably still have problems.
Feedback is welcome...

I find a bug when the file name is XXXXX.XXXX.mp3(or other type) cannot shown in the open file listbox.
can the next version fix it?

Maslovsky,
I tried your mplayer binary on my 5600 with Zynergy ROM. I am getting some short horizontal black bars scattered all over the screen when playing ogg movies. Any idea whats causing this?
Thanks
Here's the output of mplayer. I ran with no parameters.

How do you change the parameters to mplayer that kino uses?
I want to try it with another mplayer version that does not recognize the -nortc option.
Thanks
-
Did you try to play movie from kino2? Did you try to run mplayer with parameters as was described just a few posts above or in thread about new mplayer? Did you try to open kino2 preferences - you can specify options for mplayer from there.
-
The new Kino2_0.4.1 and mplayer-w100_1.0.0-1 works great on my 5600 with the Sharp rom v1.32. I can rotate the app and reach all preference settings, some in portrat and others in landscape but I can reach them and they kept their settings.
The only problem was that the installation of the Kino2.ipk causes the Zaurus to freeze when you close the package manager to complete the install. This may be caused by the fact that it creates a new multimedia tab and it can't find the icon, but I'm not sure. I also noticed on my linux box that I had to use cervisia to explore the new multimedia directory of the ipk... could that be the problem? However after a soft reset you can copy the 'xmms.png' and the 'tv.png' from the
/home/QtPalmtop/pics144 and the /pics144/kino2
directorys to the
/home/QtPalmtop/pics
Then change the 'kino2.desktop' file line
Icon=kino2/tv.png
to
Icon=tv.png
This corrected any problem with the ipk that I had.
Thanks for including the 5600 in this Kino2 build.

Thanks for the updates. installed on 6K, love the many options in the preferences. however, some issues so far
* rotate
barely rotates the movie screen from left landscape to right landscape. in other words, movies are never played in portrait mode, even when kino2 is in portrait mode. don't know if it's intentionaly to be so. Besides, rotate only rotates the movie but not the subtitile, leaving me an upside down reading experience.
(these are the problems I first noticed when using the anrp's mplayer from the console)
* scale
w/o scale, movie only playes in the left 1/4 corner, and the other part of the screen is not dark (not fullscreen per the definition in Kino2 0.22)
w/ scale, movie playes ok in the middle, same 1/4 screen size though. dark background (same as selecting the option fullscreen+NO_scale in Kino2 0.22)
so basicly, scale doesn't work on 6k.
* fullscreen option? is this option omitted in the kino2 0.4?

Thanks for reporting that. That's the best I could do without major layout rework.

Yes, the problem is that fbdev video driver behaves differently from w100 version.

Kino2 0.4 was tuned for the w100 optimised mplayer. I'll try to get back some old code, which deals with fbdev driver.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=65738\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Yes, scale basicaly means full screen because it always scale to the full screen.using -fs option.
-
I tried the Kino2 and mplayer packages on my 5600, although I didn't notice any significant speed increase over say tkcVideo. I didn't have any installation problems though, other than the huge size of the mplayer binary.
I wonder what performance you would get if mplayer was compiled with SDL support so sdl could be used instead of fbdev since that messes up the screen?

Some problems I've encountered with v0.4.1:
• Kino2 doesn't recognize folders or filenames with underscores ("_") in them.
• The IDv3 tag recognition isn't very good. I get blanks for artist, title, album, and so on. The standard Qtopia Media Player reads them but Kino doesn't.
• MP3 VBR times are interpreted incorrectly. The files play fine, but I'm reading 20 minutes or so for a 6-minute song.
• Movie files (.mov, .mp4 -- only two types I've tested so far) play in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Scaling them results in partial blackout. I'll double check this thread and others to see if there's a fix or workaround for this. Furthermore, the .mov file played without sound.
What's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT is that it recognises and plays AAC (.m4a)! No need to convert my iTunes library into MP3 just so I can play in on my Z. This alone is enough to make me want to dance a jig.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, but most of the problems you found can't be fixed at the moment. See below for details...
Some problems I've encountered with v0.4.1:
• Kino2 doesn't recognize folders or filenames with underscores ("_") in them.
Sharp's File Open widget does that. No way to fix that other than using some other widget. Same problem with files, which have period in their name.
Mplayer problems - it's used to read media info form the files.
• Movie files (.mov, .mp4 -- only two types I've tested so far) play in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Scaling them results in partial blackout. I'll double check this thread and others to see if there's a fix or workaround for this. Furthermore, the .mov file played without sound.
Again, this is mplayer problem - there is no good hardware video driver for Zaurus 6000 and default framebuffer driver isn't perfect.
What's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT is that it recognises and plays AAC (.m4a)! No need to convert my iTunes library into MP3 just so I can play in on my Z. This alone is enough to make me want to dance a jig.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=65948\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
OK, never new about that, but since it works, I'm glad. I'll add .m4a to the list of default supported extentions.
-
Thanks for the quick feedback, maslovsky.
I'd supposed that many of these were MPlayer quirks rather than specific to Kino (as a GUI), but there have been a few optimized MPlayer files floating around, and I didn't know if a customized one had been issued by the Kino developing team.
As for AAC/MP4 audio, the Apple Lossless format is no-go, but anything ripped at 320kbps or below is working well. I just had to manually add the files extensions .mp4 and .m4a in the list of supported formats under Kino preferences.

Regarding not recognizing files and folders with underscores in them...
Sharp's File Open widget does that. No way to fix that other than using some other widget. Same problem with files, which have period in their name.
This doesn't sound right. The Zaurus comes with directories named Book_Files, Image_Files, Install_Files, etc.; I can navigate through all of these in PortaBase, which uses the file navigation widget from libsl. The vast majority of my PortaBase files also have underscores in their names (Domestic_anime_DVDs.pob, etc.), and they show up and open just fine in the same widget. I haven't had a chance to look at the latest kino2 build yet, but if it's having problems with these kinds of names it should be fixable.
Now files with periods in their names are likely to be a problem; Qtopia strips off file extensions, and having extra periods in there confuses this mechanism. Case in point, Sharp's "new file" dialog won't even let you enter a period. But underscores are allowed in this dialog, as that's how I created the aforementioned PortaBase files.
Am I just misunderstanding the problem? I've been looking forward to trying out the latest version of kino2 (since 0.4 wouldn't run on my Zaurus), but since I do most of my file management from a Linux command line, I generally use underscores instead of spaces in all my filenames; a bug like this would force me to rename pretty much all media files I move to the Zaurus.

You're absolutely right - I don't see a problem with underscores in file names. I don't know what came on me

Report:
I tried both updated BVDD versions of mplayer, both of them still caused my C3000 crash when I used the option: -vo bvdd. The only difference is that the one with IWMMX disabled can work normally with the option -vo fbdev while the other one does not work with any options (-vo bvdd caused crash and -vo fbdev caused "illegal instructions") It seems that playback using fbdev consumes lots of CPU power because I always get a warning message "Your system may be too slow", so it is important find a solution with graphical device supported on C3000. For now I'd better wait for a while before I can play movie files correctly.
-
My guess is that you probably need a Special Kernel on your C3000 for the optimised mplayer to work properly.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=66147\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I am using the default kernel shipped with C3000, it's Sharp's 2.4.20 kernel. You may be right, but I am wondering whether the testing platform of the author of the BVDD version of mplayer is different from the original Sharp's kernel, or the author used other customized kernel on C3000 to test his mplayer? It's better create a BVDD version of mplayer on the default kernel of C3000, such that average Z users can make use of it. So I would rather wait for a while till the solution is available. Thanks for your input, maslovsky!

Hello,
would it be possible to port the kino2 GUI to opie? I would like to have a good mediaplayer in Openzaurus.
Or is it possible to run kino2 under OZ with opie?
Thx Bedman

Sure, the source code is available. I'm not using OPIE, so I have no interest in doing that. Any takers?

Anyone know if anything can play quicktime movies without first converting the file to avi and then mpeg. Its a great use of the c860 to pop in the SD disk from camera and see high quality pics. Unfortunately, i'm stuck with quicktime for movies from my konica / minolta.
-
on 6k, what "advanced options" I have to pass to kino2 0.4.1 to let it play with full screen 640x480 in landscape? which mplayers here are able to do what i wanted (i'm confused with the recent flush of mplayers)?
so far, i still think THIS (http://jl90202.myweb.hinet.net/kino2_0.3_arm.ipk) http://jl90202.myweb.hinet.net/kino2_0.3_arm.ipk (http://jl90202.myweb.hinet.net/kino2_0.3_arm.ipk) repackaged kino2 0.3 (0.3 gui+0.22 mplayer ?not quite sure?) is the only intuitive option for me to play full screen 640x480 on 6000. It playes the tmm-11 and matrix trailer pretty acceptably in the full 640x480 screen. replacing the /usr/local/bin/mplayer with either of the recent mplayers won't give me the desired result. Am I just dumb? Can someone help me to take advantage of the cutting edge mplayer?

There is no simple answer to that, since Quicktime is, much like AVI, primarily a container -- AFAIK anything that is able to play back MP4 or 3GP files should be able to handle QT as well. In the end, it all boils down to the codecs used within the container and whether the player in question knows how to deal with them.
A well built MPlayer or VLC should be able to handle the container -- as for the codecs, that well depends on what your cameras use ...
Best regards,
Chris.
