Title: Socket Lan Card And Guylhem Fast Kernel
Post by: amdonati on February 02, 2005, 02:49:58 am
Hi,
I have the socket LAN card, that used to work fine with my 5500.
Itried to use it with my 6000 using the non ffpe fast kernel from Guylhem.
The card is recognized upon insertion, but when I try to connect using it (after having created a LAN connection in the wizard), the LAN option does not appear at all in the connection applet (I only see the WiFi connections I created).

Do you ahve an idea on why this happens and how to solve this?

Thanks,
Adalberto

do you clear the "auto connect" option for the wifi?

It may be missing a module. Plug it in on your 5000 and type: "lsmod" in the terminal, then do than on your 6000

I'll compile the missing module

I would like to do it but I do not have it with me now! :-(
Does someone has a 5500 and can make the test for me?
Thank you very much!

Adalberto

PS: Guylhem, wouldn't it be possible to compile a version of your kernel with all the standard modules plus your updates? deleting things you could not use or could install separately (Opera 7.2, java), would add a lot of space and would make a lot of people happy (see the issue with external mice and keyboards!) :-)

On the mice keyboard issue, I managed to compile an ffpe version that works w/ mice and keyboards. I have no idea if it wuold do anything w/ a cf lan adapter--I didn't add ethernet support, but the options are sure there.

Go to guylem's site (externe.net/zaurus) find the bit on the kernel. get the toolchain and the source tarball and have at it.  I managed, and my method wasn't much better than trial and error. That way you can have exactly the kernel you want.

Yes, creating a "personal" kernel would be probably the best option, but at the moment I am working out of town, and cannot access my linux box, so it is a bit complicated to set everything up.
