Title: Keyboard & Caracter Recognition Applets
Post by: euroclie on February 16, 2005, 04:31:06 pm
Hi there,

Has any SL-C3000 owner managed to replace the Japanese Keyboard applet and the Japanese characters drawing applet by their English versions? If so, where did you get the files?

Thanks in advance for any answer/hint/help!

See this topic https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10753 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10753)

It helped me with this.

Here are the English handwriting input method and the unicode input method I got from a site that is no longer available.

If you unpack the tarball to /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods and restart qtopia (or reboot) you should get 2 extra input methods

Let me know if you have any problems using it.

Also if you get a dawg file and put it into the directory /home/QtPalmtop/etc/dict/ then you will get autocompletion of words in the handwriting applet

Thanks a lot! I have also been directed (on a French Zaurus board) to the mcconvert package (which I was able to grab on Conics's website (http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/eng-inst/mcconvert/mcconvert_0.1a_arm.ipk)) which contains also the inputmethods, bundled in a "end user" easy to use package. In case someone reaches this post later during a search, these inputmethods work just fine on the SL-C3000!

Good to know that! For now, I spend half my time writing in French, and the other half writing in English, so autocompletion "as is" without a quick way to change the language is of limited use, but I'll investigate the subject later on as time permits...

Thanks again to Kerensa for the link to that other (interesting) thread!

Good, very good !!!
But i'd like to have the french caractere (éàç) AND the japanease.

It's all right for the japanease but the french become tiny square.

I think that i need to turn the police of handwriting recognation to a utf8 police.

Any idea how to do that ?

I think you'd have to find a font that can handle simulaneously the Japanese and French (i.e. accented) characters... Maybe some unicode stuff? I didn't look very hard for such a font, but I don't think that it's easy to find.

Most of the time I tried (on various platforms), the Japanese character encodings conflicted with the accented characters encoding, so in the end I had to chose between Japanese and French, or use multiple fonts - but not many applications can handle simultaneous multiple fonts displayed in the same field, for instance. At least on a PDA.
