Title: Hentges Questions
Post by: mtxblau on February 17, 2005, 12:29:04 am
I just wanted to verify the software downloaded from here will work with the latest Hentges ROM in terms of synchronization...
http://myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp (http://myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp)

It's for 2.37 I believe, I'm not sure if it makes a difference that it's not 2.38...

Also, does the file browser handle the ext2 format? Work requires Windows XP and I can't run Linux, even Knoppix.

As an aside, what web browser do most use for OZ/Hentges? I can't find Konqueror on the list of installable programs...

Thanks in advance.

I use opera with runcompat added to the opera.desktop file. Can be found here (http://legion.homedns.org/ipks/opera_7.55.6079_arm.ipk) Also check out this (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10612&st=0) forum for getting opera to work properly.

While it's true that windows cannot rw to ext2 file systems, that is not actually problem. Due the the magic of ssh and usb networking, your windows box is not writing to the ext2 partition on your z. Windows is sending packets to the usb interface and the z is writing them to the partition all by itself.

As for syncing, I don't know. I don't sync any pim info, since I don't use the z for personal information management. While in windows (at work) I use Putty ( a cli ssh client) for command line work and WinSCP (a gui ssh client) for file transfers, mostly music files and games. While at home on my slackware box, Konqueror handles ssh seamlessly, (windows file manager still has no idea what I'm talking about when I say sftp://root@zaurus, sad just plain sad) and I use Konsole for cli work.
