Title: Media Player For Opie
Post by: ianwj on February 18, 2005, 07:15:30 am
I have made great progress from my last post about getting help on loading packages on Opie. Real voyage of discover here and I'm still drinking from a firehose. Despite getting my link to the feeds working and successfully instaling some apps and a couple of games, I still cannnot get XMMS to load and run. If there is one app I need/want it is an MP3 player for Opie. The feed script bombs with the following: ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies ...
libstdc++6 (>=3.4.2)
libstdc++6 (>=3.4.2)
Any help out here?

What I realy need is some form of mp3 player...

thanks

You need to add the devel feed I think.

Or perhaps the dev feed. I'm not sure.

Add it using the GUI package manager, or edit /etc/ipkg.conf and put in an extra 'src' entry for it. Then run 'ipkg update' to grab the new Packages list.

You need to install service-release-1-oz-opie, then try again  Reason is that libstdc++6 is in the dev feed, which isn't in the sources file for ipkg by default. This is fixed (in addition to other things) in the service release.

Hi Philipp & lardman,

>You need to install service-release-1-oz-opie, then try again  Reason is that libstdc++6 is in >the dev feed, which isn't in the sources file for ipkg by default. This is fixed (in addition to other >things) in the service release.

Thx for the info. I have installed service-release-1-oz-opie and retried, but now get:
ERROR: Cannot ...
libqte2 (>2.3.7)
libstdc++6 (>= 3.4.2)
libstdc++6 (>= 3.4.2)

I have now managed to install Mediaplayer2 (skins and all) and it will even try to play selected MP3 files on my SD card, but only pops and clicks are heard from the speaker. Maybe a Codec problem?

ianwj

Try adding the following in aqpkg, under Actions -> Configure:

In the Servers Tab, click on the "New" button.

Fill in for name "devel," for Address "http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/devel"

Exit, hit Actions -> Update lists, and libstdc++6 should appear as a package.  Just click xmms-embedded and install--libstdc++6 should be downloaded and installed automagically. . .

Try using the --force-depends switch, it would appear that either some packages were misnamed, or have been updated since the ipk was made. It should work though.

Thx guys for the tips. I have now got both Opie MediaPlayer2 and XMMS loaded successfully. However, XMMS does nothing (ie does not play th file) and Opie MediaPlayer tries to play the .mp3 files but with only VERY brief snatches of what could be called sound. Seems like I need some other files or add-in to make MediaPlayer work? BTW I'm on an SL5600 (poodle).

Ian

Hmm, could you describe more what happen with xmms? I haven't got opieplayer2 to work, so I can't help you there.

Maybe you can start xmms from a console an post the output. Also, tell us how you installed it. I myself just have to do "ipkg install -d ram xmms-embedded && ipkg-link mount /mnt/ram" and xmms works, so I really wonder what could be the problem for you...

I live and learn... XMMS is working but appears to play only some of my songs, and not others. All my music is on the same SD Card but some tracks are named "My Song.mp3" while others are named "._My Long Title of My Song2.mp3", or "04 My Song2.mp3" etc. It seems that this may have something to do withit(???) Kinda weird, but I'll investigate further and let you know the outcome. (I have given up on Opie MediaPlayer2 as well).

I too have experienced problems with xmms playing mp3's... from my playing around it appears to be related to the bitrate on the mp3.  Bitrate of 128 and lower seem to play fine while 192 and higher refuse to play (I do not remember if mp3's encoded at 160 play or not).  I was able to get mp3's encoded at 192 and higher to play from the console using mplayer if that helps any???

Correction:  Opie Media Player skips on the higher bitrate mp3's whereas xmms just isn't playing them...

Opie-mediaplayer2 just plays snatches for me.

xmms will skip some mp3 files I have (looks like they are vbr), but I need to do some more investigation (rather than just wondering why I've not heard a certain song) to work out the exact reason.

Odd - I'm sure I had omp2 working previously.

Does the same to me. I haven't had time to track down what the problem is, though.

Sorry to wake up an old thread, but I was searching the forums for a MP3 Player and found this thread.

 So I added the new server and still couldn't find the lib ipkg. Then I installed xmms just for the heck of it, and I only had problems linking. So now when I click on the icon, it doesn't open.
 What else do I have to do to get xmms to work?

 Again I didn't find tha lib ipkg on my list, even after updated list and added the new server.

 Thanks in advance.

libstdc++ appears to be in the feed:

http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...4.3-r10_arm.ipk (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/feed/devel/libstdc++6_3.4.3-r10_arm.ipk)

Are you sure you added the src correctly?

Are you able to run it from the command line?

Where did you install it? Did you run ipkg-link (e.g. ipkg-link mount /media/card/packages)?

Actually I just reflashed my zaurus with the 64-0 image.
 So I will start it over now.
 And I had xmms in the ram, not in a card.
 Anyway, thanks a lot. I will try again.

 EDIT: I found the libstd++6 now.
 Everything that I install on my zaurus should I place it on the sd card, or just the applications and ipkgs like lib and kernel updates on the zaurus ram? I'm still confused with that.

If you flashed a 64-0 image you no longer have a RAM-disk (the mount point points back to the flash).

I'd install everything to SD (assuming you have little or no free inbuilt-flash space left).

I am using the 64MB image in my collie, so I install and link everything to the SD card.  That way, when I swap my CF card for the wireless one, I can still run the browser and other internet tools.  So, you'd install like so:

Code: [Select]
ipkg -d sd install name-of-package.ipk
Then link the program (or libs or anything else you just installed via commandline) like so:

Code: [Select]
ipkg-link add name-of-package-here
Hope that helps!

OK, I can get XMMS to work on OZ 3.5.2, and played an mp3 to test it.  However, after searching the forums I am unclear which libs and/or codecs are needed to make it play video.  I would like to play mpeg and avis (Divx and xvid).  There seems to be good guidance on encoding, but not configuring for playback.

If I get it worked out, I will put together a guide....to give back to the forum

BTW, love the work on OZ and Opie guys...keep it up!

I think I saw what to install on the handhelds.org wiki - look at opie.handhelds.org - in any case it's just the xine plugins so perhaps ask someone who's running GPE at the moment and has gxine installed.
