Title: Problem using WCF12 WIFI card

I have a linksys WCF12 wifi card and I\'m trying to use X11. I have a plain vanilla X11 system that I just installed.  (I have been using TKC 2.5.1 but would like to change over)

So, I insert the card.  The light on the card blinks.  (OK so far)

xcardinfo shows my wifi card.  (looking good)

I used lanconfig to set up a connection. (getting close)

Now, when I open Konqueror and enter a url - it says \"unknown host www.google.ca\".  

On TKC I had to press an icon to start the connection.  Do I have to do that on X11 - if so - how?, where? what icon?

from the command line enter this:

# echo "nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" >> /etc/resolv.conf
with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx being the ip addy of a DNS server.

sorry, I didn\'t mention that I have already done that.  I\'ve also edited /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf to correct the entry for my card.

The light continues to blink on my wifi card, so I don\'t think I\'m connected to my network yet.

I also have a WCF12 card.  I have been using in my SL5500.
I just received my C860 on Mon., and since I flashed the
X11 ROM, I have been having the same problem.  I also tried to add a nameserver in resolv.conf, and edit the entry in wlan-ng.conf.  ( I also put it back in the 5500 to make sure I hadn\'t broken the card...still OK)

It seems to me that the card can not just auto-connect.  There must be some kind of action to tell it when to connect and which connection to connect to.  (I have a different setup for my home and my work wifi networks).  

So my question is \"What is that action that I must perform to initiate the connection?\"

I\'m surprised someone hasn\'t answered this basic question as anyone using wifi and x11 must do this on a daily basis.  People have been so helpful on this forum in the past.

I only had the x.11 rom running for 1 day, but did get wifi to work with my buffalo card (prism2).

I remember there was an app for configuring it somewhere, but it didn\'t work correctly for me.

I ended up copying the config files from my 5500, it then worked fine.

I have forgotten most of what I did, but it only took about 20mins to get it working, but it certainly wasn\'t \"plug and play\" like the same card is with the sharp/cacko roms.

*edit* the file a copied across was /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts.  not all off it, just the qpewlan1 section.

The wlan-ng.conf file has been updated I think correctly.  Again the question is - If I plug the card in, does it autoconnect to whatever wireless signel is there, or do I have to run a program to tell it when to connect?

Con\'t from the \'guest\' post above...(I registered!!)
I would assume that the card should autoconnect.  The CF memory cards seem to automount.
And I seem to get an eth0 automatically when I insert the card and type ifconfig.

However, there is never anything when I type route.
(BTW, my company uses DHCP)
Also, xcardinfo shows the card.

So far, I have tried adding a nameserver,
changed the entry in wlan-ng.conf and tried
copying the wlan-ng.opt file fromo the 5500.

Here is the /var/log/messages when I insert the card.
Any thoughts??

Thats interesting.  It seems that it tries to connect to the network as soon as you plug in the card.  Odd, I wonder what happens if, like me you have more than 1  wireless setup.  I\'ve got one for my home and 2 for work.  I also want to be able to chose which one I use at work depending on what I need to do.  How would I get in the middle of this auto-connection to make the choice? (when not using x11, I just press connect and then I am shown a list of wireless setup\'s to chose from)

I\'ve just flashed my 860 to Cacko\'s X11 Rom and have the same problem as well... if not worse.  My previously working WCF12 (original rom) now does very little... Plug it in, light fashes and comes on, but xcardinfo shows nothing at all.  /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf appears to be fine, but all xcardinfo reports is the insertion (and removal) of the card.  Weird huh (unless for some reason it has died)

I thought I would look in /var/logs/messages... but I don\'t have one! Is there an alternative location for system messages?
