Title: Kino
Post by: keef on February 20, 2005, 10:30:19 am
hi

i have installed the new version of kino but could not get it to work--didnt seem to load the files.
i also installed the mplayer package.

i have uninstalled and reinstalled the original version of kino (0.2) and
now this refuses to play any video files at all although it does seem to load them.

i have tried deleting the conf. file with no effect . i have also uninstalled and reinstalled different versions of the program several times and rebooted a few times.

any suggestions appreciated

Exactly which kino and mplayer packages did you install?

If the GUI is not working, I suggest to use command line to activate mplayer.

Use terminal to check whether mplayer is exisisten by typing "which mplayer"

After that, use the following command to play the multimedia file:

- For audio: mplayer 123.mp3
- For video: mplayer -framedrop quiet 456.mpg

I hope the above will help.

Absolutely not. I'll test the latest on my own. After trying to use kino in the train on my commute this morning, I could have litteraly murdered Maslovsky, but I know it usually gets better with upgrades, and if noone reports bugs, we'll never get rid of the Sharp media player.

I have the same problem.  mplayer seems to run commandline (though it had troubles with console constantly trying to refresh).

It wrecks havoc on the power management preferences, including screen brightness and automatic dimming, it leaves zombie processes after closing, and only responds to the remote when it feels like it. It also misreports MP3 track length.
