Title: Request For Cacko Rom Upgrade Instructions
Post by: zypher on February 20, 2005, 10:46:25 pm
Hello Everybody,

I just got done reading the installation instructions for Cacko rom but I couldn't find any instructions for upgrading the rom?

I am a newbie at this and have never upgraded a rom. I have no clue how to do this. Can this be done via the Cacko Feed?

I read that one option to Flash a rom is using USB. What does that mean? How is this done?

Could somebody please provide some instructions for the "Begginers" on how to upgrade the rom.

I mean...I don't even know how to copy the new cacko rom image to the CompactFlash card. So please forgive me for the ignorance. I would really like to learn this if one of you gurus could please provide some step-by-step simple begginer level instructions.

I think this would help a lot of people who are new to either Linus or even the PDA's for that matter.

Oh by the way, I have a SL-C860. So could you please provide intructions in regards to that.

Thanks everybody for reading my post.

Have a Great Day
Thanks..

More detailed instructions on upgrading your Zaurus C860 available here https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9749&st=105 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9749&st=105) its about half way down the page.

No you can’t upgrade via the Cacko feed as Cacko needs to be installed before you can use the feed. The feed provides access to additional software.

USB allows you to install Cacko via storage attached to the USB port on the C860, suggest that you avoid USB as it adds extra complications, so more things that can go wrong.

There are many ways to get Cacko onto a Compact Flash card, exactly how will depend on what PC you use. You should be able to copy & paste using Windows once you have your Zaurus connected to the PC.

Suggest that you also look at the How To FAQs located at https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Zaurus_How-To_Docs (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Zaurus_How-To_Docs)

They cover connecting to a variety of PC platforms.
