Title: Japanese Input Method From Source
Post by: rolf on February 24, 2005, 12:04:11 pm
Hi,

as mentioned on http://zaurus.biojapan.de/crim/SL5500_CRIM.html (http://zaurus.biojapan.de/crim/SL5500_CRIM.html), Sharp released their ROM code under the GPL.  I always thought that included CRIM (the Japanese hand-writing recognition) as well, but I cannot seem to find the source files in any of the files linked from http://developer.ezaurus.com/sl_j/source/source_dl_a300.htm (http://developer.ezaurus.com/sl_j/source/source_dl_a300.htm).  Was I mistaken about my assumption with respect to the hand-writing recognition?

Best

Rolf

Sharp does not release their Qtopia source. Only the kernel and system.

lpotter beat me to it

The second link that you posted indicates that you can download the source for everything except the SD card driver, Qtopia, and Sharp's Software.

So you can basically download the kernel

OTOH, I didn't know you could get the CRIM for the 5x00 series from the A300 - I'm going to have to try that.

PM me and I will send you a ready-made ipk I prepared for the purpose.

Very unfortunate it is that the HWR is not included.  It might prevent me from completely and finally switching to OZ which would be a shame since the Sharp image sucks soo bad.  But then again I always wondered how they would keep their edge if they GPL'd all their software.  For example I specificall bought the Z because I had heard their Kanji HWR was the best one money could buy.  You do not open-source such a unique selling proposition.
