I am now the very happy owner of a C3000. This thing is a beauty. I used to have an Sl6000 but sold it on amazon in 2 hours. I bought if from Dynamism and they told me the adapter they shipped it with was a us adapter. I opened the box and I see an EA-72 adapter, which is the Japanese adapter right? Is it ok to use this adapter. I think I read on one of the topics that it will work for a while but then I might face the possibility of a destroyed electronic device due to the adapter.
Has anyone else out there bought from Dynamism? Which adapter did you get? What adapter are you currently using? Should I call Dynamism again?
Thanks for taking the time.

I'm also in the U.S. and bought a Zaurus from Dynamism. This is the same adapter they sent me, calling it a "Universal Adapter." I've been using it for several weeks now with no problem, but I cannot speak as to its electrical characteristics.

WARNING ! I have read a few posts saying the same things however :
The EA-72 is a 100V (!) only japanese type.
The "world" (US and Europe 110-240V) type is
the EA-70 !
Using the EA-72 in the US will mean permanent
10% overvoltage and may destroy your Zaurus
including loss of warranty.
Don't tell me that a reputated dealer really calls
this the right one. Must be a mistake at their
customer support group.

Thanks Steamline.
I thought I smelled something fishy. I will have to use this adapter until I get the correct one. I am definitely calling Dynamism. Right this minute!

Im sure its just a simple mistake on there part I hate to see someone ruin a nice machine over something that should have been supplied.

Don't believe everything you read. It is a type of regulated power supply - a switching power supply - which means a 10% increase in input power isn't going to change the output at all. Period.
I just checked - my EA-72 puts out 5.13 Volts (And I'm in Canada - so it is a nominal 110v input just like the US) I've been using it here for 5 months without issue.
Incidently, my one EA-70 puts out 5.25 Volts.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Dynamism.
The sales person has assured me that these adaptors are fine to use in the US. He said they have been selling these units, Zaurus, for years and sell many, many, many (the number is too great to say) units with no problems arising from using the included adaptor. He also assured me that if something did happen to my zaurus because of using the adapter they would repair or replace under their warranty.
Furthermore, he adviced me to send an e-mail addressed to their technical support staff so that I can be reassured by them that these adapters are ok to use. I will reply again when I receive their e-mail.

Calm down people !
We know, that many users use the EA-72. Some for a year with luck,
some only shorter
And we too talk about big numbers and are getting feedback daily
from customers around the world.
The question is: If the EA-72 is fine for the US, why is SHARP selling
the EA-70 type with the SL-5500/5600/6000 series ?
Hell, the EA-72 even has no FCC.
So i have to assist Stephen from StreamlineCPUs:
Selling the EA-72 and call it a world adapter is bad style. Period.

Thanks Marc,
I don't understand why some get defensive when all you are trying to do is help insure there Zaurus has a long lasting life. Having the correct voltage is one of the most important things to the Zaurus why settle with something that isn't correct? Because it has worked?

hmm, conics also sells the EA-72 for North American users. So on it goes.

I'm not arguing that an EA-72 is a better adapter. It isn't - the EA-70 is a 2 amp adapter vs 1 amp for the EA-70, and the 100v rating of the EA-72 means that at 110 volts it may have to work harder and may lead to early failure *of the adapter*, not the Zaurus. I doubt it, though: Plug a monitor into your power some time - in my last office we could watch the power see-saw between 98volts and 118volts for a 110volt line.
What I'm pointing out is that:
Using the EA-72 in the US will mean permanent
10% overvoltage and may destroy your Zaurus
including loss of warranty.
is incorrect. The Zaurus doesn't see a 10% overvoltage - it can't tell the difference between the two adapters at all - they both put out ~5 volts. However you get that 5 volts into the Z doesn't matter - I've used EA-70s, EA-72s, The power brick from my Compaq 3600 (5v, 2A, identical connector), 4xNiMH batteries, and the 5v rail from my computer power supply, and I still have 3 perfectly working Z's.
The EA-72 isn't a world adapter or a US adapter, but neither is it a reason to be scared to plug your Z in.

A voice of sanity finally.
