Title: Apps On Sd Problems W/3.5.2- Help
Post by: thefuriousmonk on February 24, 2005, 07:17:24 pm
Hi all,

I have a 5600 with oz 3.5.2. I only have like 8300kb free on root, and i wish to install my apps to my 512 mb sd card. Every time i try to install from the feed, either no icon, or icon doesn't work , or i get an ipkg link error. I know enough to force dependancy on some things like konqueror, but they still don't work unless installed to root (where they take up too much space). I would also very much like to have kismet with kismet_qt installed. I am getting really frustrated with the whole thing as it is not user friendly at all. The only way apps work is when installed to root. someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks!!!

Im not to sure what the problem is, I assume you run ipkg-link after you install your packages?

Maybe you could try Hentges (http://hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3.5.2-opie1.1.7.shtml) which has its home on an sd card, which seems to be what your looking for.

EDIT
I should read more carefully, like greg has said dont use the hentges rom, I thought you had a 5500 instead of your 5600 my apologies

Is your SD card formatted as ext2? If not you will get symlink errors.

No icons can be caused by not ipkg-link'ing, or by not restarting Opie.

Is the card mounted rw? Run fsck on it just to be sure.

First of all, the Hentges rom was not made for the 5600 so don't try it.

As lardman has noted make sure your SD-card is formatted ext2 for the installation of apps.

I would suggest that you read all of this thread (at least page 2) here:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6420 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6420)
It will show you how to set up your 5600 for installing apps to the home partition with proper ipkg-linking.

To get kismet working on 3.5.2 following these (http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?submenu=zaurus/zaurusheader&page=zaurus/wardrivingapps) instructions, then install kistmet_qt and link with compat libs.
