Title: Low priced_High performance_Linux/Java-Based_PDA
Post by: Greg2 on January 14, 2004, 07:30:51 pm
Yeahh...that made you look

I can only speculate as to why the price has dropped suddenly for an SL-5600?The fact is it has from Amazon to ebay $299 or less. That coupled with the fact that tumnus (with the help of ced) has compiled a Very Special kernel that\'s available here at ZUG downloads makes this a great bargain imo. So for those of you thinking about buying one, or if you have one and are dissatisfied with it\'s performance give the special kernel a try. It works with all Sharp based roms (for 5600) and the increase in performance is fantastic.

Damn that sounds like I\'m getting paid for this. No really, I have used this for one week today on my 5600 with the Zynergy-1.1 rom and no problems.

The special kernel is here:

my 2 cents

A reasonable guess: the sudden price drop is due to Sharp blowing out their remaining inventory in preparation for discontinuation.  Its consistent with the other moves Sharp has been making lately...  They\'re probably going to pull out of the US handheld market entirely.  (and let IBM deal with the \"enterprise\" sl-6000.  Heck, I would not be surprised if it comes out as an IBM branded product)

No matter what the cause, $299 for a 5600 is not a bad deal.
