Title: 5500 wireless kernel test
Post by: Richjn on January 14, 2004, 09:43:51 pm
Hi

I have put together a 5500 kernel with up to date drivers and wireless exstensions. I don\'t have a 5500 and so can\'t test it myself but dx is kindly doing so and is running into problems getting Wellenreiter to work.

The question I need to answer is whether this is just a card problem such as a number of people have with the 7x0 series or if I\'ve done something wrong.

Has anyone out there got a 5500 and a Socket low power ethernet card (I know this works on 7x0) that would like to try and answer this question ?

Send a pm and I will email it to you.

Once this part is completed I will add pre-emptive bits and upload to ZUG for everyone.

Richard

I can test against a Prism2 (Netgear) card on my 5500 if that helps...

Jeremy.

Hi all

I now have a number of people (thanks all involved) trying this out for me so don\'t need any more. Once I have some feed back and things are stable I will post to ZUG downloads for all.

Hi All

I have had a report back from mesoft to report that the wireless extensions are active and that Kismet v2.2 works but not v3 or Wellenreiter. I have uploaded (well I\'m trying to) the file for approval here on the ZUG.

I don\'t have a 5500 so can\'t work through the dependencies / lib requirements for you in order to get the later sniffers to work.

Can someone pick up the batton here ?

Anything new with this?  I would like to try this with my SL5500 and a SanDisk Connect card if possible.  Let me know if I can test this out, and where to obtain the kernel that you created if possible.

Thanks, N8

The kernel is available from ZUG downloads under kernel source (5500)

I have had limited feedback other than what I have posted here / in the file description. I was going to develop it further by adding preemp ect but I\'m not sure I want to get involved with it as I can\'t test it as I don\'t have a 5500 myself.

jcsriv tested it and although it booted after 30 mins he put it to one side and when he picked it up again it had stopped responding altogether (possible \"fuse\" problem rather than the kernel)

My wireless card recently konked out (I\'m pretty certain), and I just ordered a new one.  So, unfortunately, this\'ll have to wait until the new card...

I did try the flash for kicks, and it completed in < a minute.  Since I am running tkcROM, the initial screen that came up was the Sharp splash, but it was followed by the \"Generating SSH Keys...\" and the rest of the tkc startup process.  Just an FYI -

It is working and now my Socket wifi card works with my 5500!

After flashing this onto my Z, all backups end with -unknown instead of -3

Important to know so you can get your data restored, rename your last backup accordingly (replace \"-3\" with \"-unknown\".

Oh and Syncing with Outlook still works.

Thanks Richard!

I had success with tkc1.0 and Sharp 3.10m what ROM are you using ?
Have you tried Kismet or Wellenreiter ? I have gotten Kismet v2.2 to work  but had issues with v3 and  Wellenreiter II.

I have never tried Kismet or Wellenreiter as I only use the wireless connections I set up myself. But try as I would, I couldn\'t get teh Socket card to work before this.

I use the Sharp 3.13 ROM with Richard\'s kernel.
