Title: Xmms Install Problems
Post by: roixnus on March 05, 2005, 11:53:05 am
With this forums help I was able to get Konqueror up and running, thanks!  Now I'm attempting to install XMMS and having similar issues.  When I try to run it from the consol I get "error while loading shared libraries: libglib-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"  I tried to find liblib-1.2.so.0 on the feed, but couldn't.  Am I on the right track?

Thanks,

Roy

I think I'm right in thinking that there's only a opie version of xmms in the feed (which reminds me that I said I'd look and see if I could work out why there's no GPE version...).

The package is probably called 'glib' or 'glibc' (? not sure about that though), try installing that from the feed.

An easier way might be to see what the actual dependency is for xmms (using 'ipkg info xmms' or similar). The ipk you need may well be in the devel feed which you'll have to add manually (or install the service-release ipk which does this for you I think) so that ipkg looks in it.

Your right, my newbiness is shining bright!  Do you have a recommendation for an easy to install mp3 player for opie?

Thanks,

Roy

Well mplayer works, but xmms is the best one with a GUI (atm) - install the service pack thingy from here: http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl....5.2-r1_arm.ipk (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/upgrades/service-release-1-oz-opie_3.5.2-r1_arm.ipk)

Then click the update button in packagemanager to download the extra info (or if you're doing this from the command line run 'ipkg update').

Did you force-dependencies to install xmms? If so uninstall and re-install and it should grab them. If not, just try an ipkg install glib (glibc?) and see if that works.

Hi,
xmms need libglib. libglib is not glibc.
Get it here:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl....4.6-r1_arm.ipk (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/libs/libglib-2.0-0_2.4.6-r1_arm.ipk)

Cheers,
Sam

For all newbees with SL-5500: Take hentges cardfs OZ distribution, if you have a SD card:
 http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3...opie1.1.7.shtml (http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3.5.2-opie1.1.7.shtml)

It includes all the packages visible on this screenshots, for example xmms:

This probably sounds like a totally stupid question, but should I install stuff directly from the feed with packagemanager?  I've been doing it by dropping on my CF from my laptop and installing it local.  I know a lot of what I'm asking is probably covered somewhere else in the forums or elsewhere, but I'm learning quiet a bit here and appreciate everyone's help immensly!

Cheers!

Yes, and be sure to click the update button or run ipkg update from terminal (command line). This way you will install all the dependencies for each app.

Alternately you can build a feed on your CF-card if you want, but it must have the package file for each feed you use.

I'm really feeling dumb here!  I've searched the forum for something on how to use the packagemanager to install from the feed, but have had no luck.  Is there a how-to or something that I'm not finding.

Thanks for you patience with me!!

I started messing around with the packagemanager and it connected!  Scrap the last question.

Thanks
