Hi Everyone, I recently attempted to install OZ 3.3.6pre1 on my Sharp SLC-760 but unfortunately failed... I tried twice, once after a NAND Restore to Sharp ROM and another time after installing a working OZ 3.3.5 but both attempts leave me with a blank screen with the words OpenZaurus, the Cute Green Mascot and a blinking cursor...
What I did was to download updater.sh, initrd-gcc3.bin and zimage-shepherd.bin to a CF Card from http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experim...860/3.3.6-pre1/ (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experimental/c700,c750,c760,c860/3.3.6-pre1/)
Before flashing, I also renamed initrd-gcc3.bin to initrd.bin and zimage-shepherd.bin to zImage.bin
Anyone got any advise for me?
PS: Still staring at the screen hoping it will boot!
-
If I recall, you should rename zImage.bin to zImage - but things may be different for the 760 (I have a 5500).
z.

Nope.. that didn\'t work either...
so far I have tried zimage.bin, zImage.bin and zImage... all no go..
-
i belive the C760 modell is called husky;
maybe you should try the right image file?
-
Well, I tried with the husky file.. sadly it didn\'t work either! any of you guys got 3.3.6pre1 to work on your C760s?
-
yes, i have it running.
i remember i had this problem too (with 3.3.5);
what i did; restore the data from NAND backup and redo the OZ installation. then it was working...
maybe you give it a try....
-
i just tried to install the 3.3.6-pre1 as described in the README.FIRST in the download directory.
it works very fine... (thanks mickey!)
try to restore your NAND and reinstall OZ; should work..

I was wanting to install the 3.3.6-pre1 this weekend, but I\'ve got a question first. The earlier posts in this thread and the installation \"how to\" on the OZ website says to rename the zimage-<model>.bin file to zImage. In the README FIRST file it says to rename zimage-<model>.bin to zimage.bin. Is there a difference because the \"how to\" is talking about the SL-5xxx zaurus\'s and the \"readme\" is specifically about the SL-c7xx series?
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
i think there ARE different dependencies coded into updater.sh due to naming the kernel image file.
then it depends on which updater.sh you\'re using... ;o)
anyway, i think the documentation included to the distro you download should be mostly uptodate...
for mine: i tried 3.3.6-pre1 the way described in the README.FIRST for a C760 (husky); works great!
anyway, do not forget about this is a dev version - may be not stable at some moments (i have not found them yet..)
cheers,
jonnie

hmm... oh well, I guess I\'ll try it again another day as I left my 256 Meg SD card at my gf\'s place the other day... hope it\'ll work! anyway, running 3.3.5 at the moment is it seems to work quite well... kind of keen to try the 3.3.6pre1 wireless lan extensions thou.. are there spectrum drivers with the monitor patches in 3.3.6pre1?
-
I decided to go for it. I did what the README.FIRST document said to do, and I\'m now the proud user of a C760 with OZ 3.3.6pre1 on it.

Hi Lance, could you give me the md5sums of the files you used? I wonder whether there might have been some corruption issue on my end!
-
I just tried to re-run the 3.3.6pre1 installation and this time I suddenly noticed that for some reason, the second part of the installation (erasing flash?) doesn\'t reach 100% and it stops at just inline with the d on the ahead setence for some reason... it then reboots causing my problem.. anyone seen this before?
Anyway I tried one last attempt by shifting everything off the CF card, reformatting it and then re-downloading the stuff from the OZ site and trying to reflash the ROM...
end result: Still not working...
Oh well, back using 3.3.5 at the moment...

sdchew,
Here are my md5sums:
5a87d886eca6bc73708e23306d90f088 initrd.bin
b2111f61c5bd99e76465befd8356aed6 zimage.bin
f5aa58e71c73f4b5151b8b33967bb27f updater.sh
Hope it helps,
Lance

Damn... the md5sums check out... I\'m begining to suspect the reason why it isn\'t working is due to some loading issue... going to attempt one more try later tonight.. going to NAND Restore my C760 again, then use a 32meg CF Card which I never used before and see whether that works... then again, the CF card shouldn\'t be an issue as 3.3.5 loads perfectly for me... :|
-
Nope... just attempted another failed 3.3.6pre1 attempt... NAND Backup\'d the C760, copied updater.sh, initrd-gcc3.bin (renamed to initrd.bin) and zimage-husky.bin (renamed to zimage.bin) as stated in the README.FIRST to a freshly FAT formated SD card and attempted to flash the ROM... stilll no go... same OpenZaurus Logo with the blinking cursor... oh well, guess its not going to work for me... 3.3.5 works fine for me thou...

Hmm I flashed it without problems, but I dont get opie started. It says: \"Starting Opie in 5 seconds, press a key to drop off to console\" (which I dont do), it says \"starting opie\", but all I get is a console prompt.
/etc/initd.d/opie start says the same and also \"starting opie-login with syslog logging\", but again, all I get is a prompt.
Help, please :-)

Same here, except it says \"starting opie\" and seems to hang. No prompt.
