Title: Brand new camera card for $14.95
Post by: mwbarker on January 16, 2004, 03:10:36 am
Just letting everyone know that I ordered a brand new camera card from comp-u-plus for $19.95 last week and it got here yesterday.  Works great and it is in fact brand new in the box.  For those that were curious about it, it works decent.  I wouldn\'t spend the suggested $150-$200 for it, but for $19.95, who can go wrong.   For anyone that had wanted one, I noticed today that the price had actually dropped to $14.95.  Here\'s the link:

http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?s...86r6&id=1000535 (http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?sid=1117799jf3y86r6&id=1000535)

BTW - No, I do not work for comp-u-plus and I do not get any benefits from posting this.  The price was just too awesome not to share with others.

That is fantastic value - trouble is Shipping costs to the UK start at $50! Which makes it a little less attractive !

Sure, but with normal prices being around $140, $50 for shipping is still saving you a ton of $$$.

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod...&search=CE-AG06 (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=562751&ut=90aa51088d88f7ac&found=2&search=CE-AG06)

If the above link doesn\'t work, just go to www.pricegrabber.com and search for CE-AG06.  You\'ll see what I mean by the prices.

You\'re not wrong there - some very sill prices around for the camera card - even seen one at $219.

So..... $66 (ish) including shipping is still a real bargain.

Thanks for the tip off.

I just ordered one last night  .  Including shipping is was $29.90 also.  I heard that the quality of this camera was not great, but from the sample pics I saw on the web, it is more than usable.  I appreciate your finding this great deal.  At such a low price, I couldn\'t pass it up.  I sure wasn\'t going to spend over $200 on it, but <$30 including shipping is a great deal 8) .

Thanks Again

Glad I could help out.  I admit that the camera is not that great to use as a primary digital camera, but as an add-on gadget for my Z it works out fine.  For over $150 I never would have bought it, but with the price from comp-u-plus I just couldn\'t resist.

I just went back to compuplus to order 10 of them... to then send them off to those intl. people, but it seems they have odd shipping terms...

shipping on 10 cameras is $98.65 (two-day).   why couldn\'t they just shove them all into one box, and ship that out?  it seems that they are trying to make some money on shipping.  I think I\'ll call them tomorrow to see if they can change that.

I suppose if they don\'t change the shipping charge for a bulk order, I could still pick them up and just have those who want one pay $25 for it, and whatever shipping costs it is to their respective location.

maybe I\'m just asking for trouble...

I was a little irked that they wanted $15 to ship a $15 item.  I don\'t need 2nd day shipping; why should I have to pay for it?!  So I called them and asked about this.  The operator told me they were \"contracted\" to ship that way and he couldn\'t anything about it.  (I guess their shipping is outsourced?)  I asked for basic ground shipping but they wouldn\'t do it.  I complained more and he offered to take $2 off the shipping charge; said that was the best he could do.  I declined his offer and said I had to think about whether I still wanted to buy the item.  Later I decided $30 was still a pretty excellent deal so I went back to the site and ordered one.

One other thing he told me: he said most people buy multiple items per visit and that the shipping costs then averaged out.  Cheap way to get me to buy more stuff...

I think their attitude/policy is pretty poor.  They should at least have a basic ground shipping option for cases like this.  When I placed my order I complained one more time in the comment field on the order form.

Just got off the phone with compuplus... they won\'t budge on the shipping terms.  And since I can\'t see spending an extra $100 on shipping for 10 small cameras... I\'ve decided to just not buy any extras.  So if you\'ve PMd me about shipping one to you, sorry - can\'t do it.

Just out of curiosity, how do these cameras perform?  I noticed someone said they\'re okay but not amazing. What does that mean exactly? What are the weak points/strong points etc. etc.  These things are $50 for me to ship, added with exchange etc. that makes them far less of a deal for me.

Cheers

I ordered one but don\'t have it yet.  I wouldn\'t expect much from it; it\'s not a serious camera, IMO.

The resolution is low: 640 x 480, IIRC.

I figure the thing will be useful for quick snapshots of stuff if I\'m out comparison shopping or something.  If I want to take real photos I\'ll break out my Nikon digicam.

If I\'m surprised when I receive mine I\'ll post something about it.

FYI: Here\'s a link to the manual for the camera: http://www.zaurus.com/dev/support/download...-AG06Manual.pdf (http://www.zaurus.com/dev/support/downloads/CE-AG06Manual.pdf)

The camera is pretty good for daylight shots. I use mine for yard projects so at the store I can  remember everything i need.

Their shipping is high, I had added some linksys stuff and nearly died when i saw $48 shipping for $65  order. I dropped everything but the camera.  After checkin I did find that with the shipping they still beat everyone eles price on the linksys.
The order I placed sunday was delivered today.

Well, just got my camera card.  It\'s a pretty neat little card but, as expected, the picture quality isn\'t great.  The Sharp SW is pretty decent too.  You get a live preview on the GUI that updates pretty fast and cleanly.  You can choose from 480x320 or 240x160 resolution in landscape mode or 480x640 or 240x320 in portrait mode.  The lens rotates 180 degrees forward (towards the subject) or backwards (towards you) and you can flip the preview display to match.  The lens uses manual focus (turn the lens ring).  There\'s a shutter button on the card itself as well as one on the GUI.  You can set the compression quality between \"normal\" and \"fine\".  You can save either to internal memory or SD.  There\'s also a SW zoom function (2x, I think) that only works at the lower resolutions and a full screen preview that only works in portrait mode.  Other than the limited quality, the only other problem (albeit, a minor one) is that the card blocks the stylus garage.  All in all a pretty cool toy, especially at the minimal price paid.

I just bought mine yesterday for the new $28 price (still a great deal) with the $15 shipping (a horrible deal).  I\'m hoping to get it either monday or tuesday.

I\'ve read that it is very hard to focus and has trouble with low light, but for $42 I don\'t really care if its up to snuff with a dedicated digital camera.

Ordered mine on Friday.  It was shipped on Monday and I received it on Wednesday.  It is poor quality (worse than the Zire 71 cam for example) but perfectly fine for quick outdoor shots in good light.   For the price, I am happy with it!   I am using it on a SL-C860.  Total paid, about $30 incl. shipping.

Note that Opie-Camera http://www.Vanille.de/projects/camera.html (http://www.Vanille.de/projects/camera.html) also can take videos and supports more formats/resolutions. I never tested this on a C7x0 though.

I don\'t find it hard to focus (assuming that you have enough light) but then again I\'m used to manual focus cameras.

It IS virtually blind in low light.

Looking at the update rate of the preview screen last night I was thinking that it might be technically possible to capture movies with it.  Of course, the Sharp software doesn\'t do this.  It might be worth playing around with Opie-Camera though.

Mine arrived on Thursday  !  I have only had a short time to play with.  It is virtually blind for low light (even indoors in my house, which is kinda dark to begin with).  It is easy to focus in normal or bright light.  For the price, I am very satisfied.  This will never take the place of a \"real\" digital camera, but is more than sufficient for the purposes I wanted it for.

Just a heads-up.  SL-5600 users probably want to use the camera software package that came on the CD-ROM.  The version on the CD-ROM is -3 while -1 can be downloaded.  The only real difference (from what I can tell) is that photos can be saved in flash memory with -3, while the -1 only let me save to my SD-card...not internal flash.  Photo quality is still crap indoors

You don't want to take indoors pictures with this camera. They realy suck. Outdoors pictures' quality is somewhat of those built into cellphones...

Got my camera yesterday, very neat little device.  The pictures are low quality, but it is more of a fun toy to play with.  On a clear day, it takes very nice shots outside, while inside or low light are grainy, but not totally useless.

What makes it cool is you take a picture, save it to RAM or SD (I recommend FAT32 as mine was giving errors when  tried saving in ext2, but that may have been a coincidence), then you just unplug the camera and plug in the wifi and you have a picture small enough to mail without requiring going through paint programs.

Kind of like cell phone camera idea.

Personally, I would love to get my hands on the source for the camera software if it is out there, but I believe it is not in the public domain.  Reason being that it could be used as a video link with only minor changes since the screen is a viewfinder already.

Anyway, I think the camera is pretty cool, even with the high shipping....it is just one more reason to own and use the Z....I would not pass it up for this price, but I would not expect a digicam quaility device either.

Not sure if anyone else has had problems, so just a quick warning.  I ordered the z camera from comp-u-plus, got the box last week.  I went to open it and the camera was missing!  Had the instruction booklet, and the box (which was pretty beat up), but the camera itself was gone.  I've been trying unsuccessfully for 2 days now to contact their customer support (busy signal on the phone line, no response from their e-mail).  Hopefully it's just a simple mistake on their part and this will get resolved.  I'll let you all know what happens..   .

For the 5500 and 5600 (and I think) the Cx00 series, there was an IPK on the cdrom for use with the camera....so you could check your CD rom for the 6000L and see if there is a camera program (IPK) ...if so, I would then that is a good indicator.

Hey All,

This thread's been dead for quite a while, but has anyone seen these cards anywhere selling for under $100?  I bought three last fall and gave one to a friend, one to my daughter and kept one for myself (the cost me $30 apiece).  Recently my daughter managed to lose hers and I'd like to buy her a replacement.  I've found plenty of vendors selling them but they all want $130 bucks or more- and for that amount I could buy her a decent 1-2megapixel camera and a CF-->5-in-1 media reader.

Anyway, it'd be really great if anyone trips over one in your surfing- If you do PLEASE send me a PM/Email and post here about it!

It'd help me a bunch, and make a young budding photography/technogeek daughter of mine really happy. =)

Thanks!,

You're right- and I've already thought of that.  If I cannot find one by Christmas I'm giving her mine. Not too happy about that though, I actually use mine rather frequently...I'm the one she caught the shutter-bug from.   I'm actually amazed at how fond we've become of the little contraptions- because the quality reaaaaaally sux.  But we've found that while we don't always carry our cameras with us, we ALWAYS have our Z's.  Also the resolution/size is almost perfect right outa-da-can for posting pics really quickly to the net for family and friends. But being that I'm definitely wrapped around her little finger- It'll be hers on December 25th!
