I'm new to the C3000 and to the general OE/Zaurus community, and I'm a bit behind.
I've figured out how to configure my Z to use a feed (so far only the one on ZUG), but a good chunk of the software doesn't work. Most of the time the app gives me the "explosion" icon saying it's running....then returns me to the general app interface. (Examples include Freedoom, XMMS, opie wellenreiter) Some apps run sideways at a lower res, and usually crash quickly (Nethack, qpdf2). Still others just report "ipkg problems" when I'm installing (zothello). Perl 5.8.0 (from perl.org, I believe) refuses to install OR unistall (it's listed as installed, but isn't, and even the commandline ipkg segfaults when touching it) Perl 5.6.1 from zug worked fine. Kismet dies saying it can't find libstdc++. I finally found a version of openssh that installed and appears to work.
I've added /usr/local/lib/ to my ld.so.conf.
I'm running the default Sharp ROM.
How can I find applications that work on the C-3000? Is there any way to tell in advance? Is there any way to diagnose the crashes and possible correct them?
Thanks in advance!

Most of those apps will probably work on the C3k, the explosion whith nothing happening is usually a sign that the program is missing libraries or other dependancies (occasionally its wrong default config files)
To see if the app is missing libraries (and what they are) try starting the app form the console. You will get an error message that should help to tell you what is wrong

If apps load sideways at lower res you can tab and hold the icon and and unjack the "Display with magnified Screen" option, this should make them look as the should

I _must_ be missing something.
1) Where do I find feeds for the default ROM? ZSI seems outdated, ELSI doesn't have (populated) feeds, and half the webpages I've been linked to are gone or don't actually have files. IpkgFind seems to be specific to Familiar.
2) If ipkg is based on debian, it should figure out and handle dependencies, right? I'm willing to use the command-line, but I'm guessing I need to get working feeds before that will help.
3) my attempts to get something simple, such as libstdc++ (apparently required by kismet) have been frustrating and futile. Add in kismet and wellenreiter to this list (they require libraries I don't have, which I then can't find.)
The Zaurus cannot have such rave reviews and strong community support with this kind of experience (I'm an experienced Linux user, I'm willing to get my hands dirty, but this has been an unsuccessful ordeal thus far). I'm assuming I'm missing something...what?
(I can't jump to an OZ rom until they have support for the C3000...as long as I have the Hancom apps, I'm prefectly willing to jump ship to another rom once it's available)
Help me...what am I missing?

Maybe you'll find what you need here : http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/Packages (http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/Packages) (packages in the cacko feed - Qtopia 1.22 which is sharp-rom based, so I think most of them will work for you)
(not really sure as I don't own a 3000)
the feed link is : http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed (http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed)
You can also find a lot of things here : Mirrors on zaurus.spy.org (http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/)
Hope this gets you on the right track
Chero.

I can't find Perl 5.6.1 and had the same problem with Perl 5.8.0 as you did.
Any chance you can post Perl 5.6.1 here?
I'm trying to get P2Z running.
Thanks

A relatively simple way to get new software is to just use Debian [https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9237] with X/Qt. When you need a new program, apt-get works well.
-
Yeah, but the hard part is getting debian X/QT on the Z. I have looked at that several times, contemplating trying it, but Cacko, is still so sweet. Plus, I just can't yet find the courage to do pocket workstaion, or X/QT . If I tried it, I would need a lot of hand holding!

Try my website. It has some useful info about the C3000

Meanie. great effort. I have bookmarked it for when I get my C1000.

I'm going to give it a try.

I thought Cacko was still in alpha for the 3000. Are you running it?
I know it requires re-flashing to install, and then you have to reinstall everything from scratch.
X/QT is just an app and installs like one and runs like one. You can make it full-screen though.
You run Debian stuff chrooted so you don't need to change the underlying system for it.
Most of it uses X/QT as an X server.
I just created a volume in a file on hdd3 to run the Debian stuff, since it wants a unix filesystem
and I didn't want to reformat hdd3 itself.
Got a fast 1G SD card, which I 'll try copying it to to see if that's any faster.
Created a swap file on hdd3 also.

I ended up deleting /dev/hda3, recreating it smaller, then making a /dev/hda4 partition as ext3. That gives me extra unix filesystem space without breaking any compatbility with Sharp/Cacko.
