Title: C3000/1000 Keyboard

I'm asking about the C3000 but will guess the C1000 will be the same.

Is there anyone here who has had another C series machine and a C3000?  I'd like to know how the keyboard compares, the C3000/1000 keyboards look like real solid keys but so did the C860/760/750/700 pics until I got one - it was more like a ZX81 keyboard - except it worked better.

Can some kind soul explain what the keyboard is like and if able to compare it to the Cxxx keyboards, that would be great.

Yes, the C7xx/8xx keyboard is foil based and looks a little cheap - but works great. The C3000 has single keys with a more precise point of pressure and looks more valuable.
Both have approx. the same distance between keys. Personally, I prefer the C7/8xx a little as they need less force to press which makes entry a little more reliable in my observation. But I operate the Z mostly in touchpen mode so it makes not so much difference IMHO.

i use the C3000 with the keyboard. the keys are plastic with about 1/32 inch travel depending on the sponginess of your fingertips  they make a positive click when fully depressed. the trouble is typing with more than 2 fingers you can't get them close enough. also if you have to deal with 5 different keyboard layouts between the 3000, pda thumb board, smartphone T9 and qwerty desktop and laptop. you can get a little confused which key combo to use by memory... all in all in make a great belly-top computer for the couch potatoes, and it's super on the plane, or crowded board room you have plenty of desktop space left over  i also recommend getting the screen protector, and the leather case. they make excellent additions. the only problem i'm had was loosing the stylus so soon, i've never lost one before!

I have to say I prefer the SL-C3000 keyboard. The keys are more positive and the panel that the keys are embedded in is rigid compared with the SL-C860, I know that you see a bit of flex on the panel when you type on the 860. The 3000 isn't like that.

I was a fast typer on the SL-C860, I think the SL-C3000 is actually much faster and is nearly the same layout as the SL-C860. That Joypad arrangement still feels strange when cursoring around a text document with though - and I still hunt for the OK and cancel in the 860 positions but I have only had it a couple of days and I'm still getting used to it.

Thanks to everyone who answered, I loved the keyboard on the C860 - could type very fast, seems the C1000 will be even better.

I've decided to not get another Z yet, but in time I may reconsider.
