Title: Non Oem Travel Chargers/hotsysnc Cables
Post by: SueZ on March 19, 2005, 11:57:16 am
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has used the aftermarket USB Hotsync Cables and Travel Chargers with their Zs? I've read some comments out here about "reverse polarity" and folks accidently toasting their Zs. I don't want to risk frying my Z. What's your opinion on these-can they be used safely?

I have a 5500.

Here's what I am looking at:

The USB cable should be okay, given that it is made especially for the Z. The seperate plug in charger I'd be a little more wary of - I imagine that there is a Z model (The model list was broken for me so I couldn't tell), but I don't know anything about the quality of the power supply itself.

Hi kahm,
Thanks. I had my husband figure out the amperage draw of my Z-he then compared the two power supplies, (the one that shipped with the Z, and the one online), and said he was comfortable the power supply was ok for my Z.

Thanks for your response.

Hi SueZ
Did you buy the USB Hotsync Cables from this supplier? I recently bought their ultralight kit but find that the USB cable does not sync though it appears to charge. Were you able to sync using this?
Thanks
wizzard

Hi Wizard,
I had no problem synching with the hotsync cable from rwsherwood. I was able to sync my Z with my work PC, and my laptop, with no problems. (My home PC is already set to sync with the cradle...)

I love the hotsync cable-because I don't have to drag a cradle along with me.

I used to have trouble synching my Z when I was running the original Sharp Rom, but since I have upgraded to Sharp 3.10 Rom-It has never been a problem. My work PC is a Win2K box, and my laptop is WinXP.

Sorry for the delayed reply!

Sue

Rich from RSherwood.com replaced the cable and the new one works perfectly. This person is a seriously good businessperson. If anyone else is planning to buy a ssimilar cable I'd recommend him strongly. Shipping for the original and replacement was superfast.

Hi wizzard,
I agree with you re. Rick Sherwood. I bought my cables from him off ebay, and also relayed my concerns about the "safety" of my Z using after market cables. He answered all my questions and concerns. He has been selling these cables to many PDA owners, and many Z owners, and told me he used them himself as well. Defintely a trustworthy internet and ebay retailer, and I would buy from him again in a second.

Glad to hear you got a replacement cable so quickly from him, and it all worked out re. synching your Z.
