Is this actually a viable solution? Has somebody done this?

Many people did that to many different handhelds... did that too. Will certainly do that for a friend 6000...

What kind of bluetooth module would you buy to do this modification?

I wonder though if there was any Bluetooth integration with the ROM on the 6000W, such as beaming contacts/calendar entries via Bluetooth or even general Obex transfers? Does anyone know?

Surely the 6000W ROM must have at least come with a Bluetooth configuration app. Does anyone know how good it is?

In any case, the last time I looked at the 6000W on PriceJapan it said it was discontinued.

I tried PriceJapan last week and they said they cannot procure them anymore, none are available.

About bluetooth integration on the 6000W: no integration of no kind :-/

I'm using my own custom made apps to download pics from my S65 cellphone, and do other bluetooth thingies. Very little focus is put on apps - blame me too, because my shell scripts are enough for me :-(

If you need something specific (ex: using a headset, cellphone, etc) I can give you some scripts. But sorry I have no address book card beaming ATM.

That would be very nice. I would like to use a headset.

Very cool, could you release a detailed photostory when you do that, please?

I'am also interested in soldering a bluetooth module into my Sl-6000. Do you know the pinout of the pads for the internal module?

took at look at the segor.de site, very interesting... pity my German is not good enough for the tech stuff :-/

see https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13238 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13238) for discussion about fitting inside 860/1000/3000/3100

Recently I soldered a Mitsumi Bluetooth module into my Sl-6000. This works very well.

A picture is available here [a href=\"http://www.do13.de/openzaurus/pictures/tosa_bluetooth.jpg]http://www.do13.de/openzaurus/pictures/tosa_bluetooth.jpg[/url]

This project isn't finished. The switching of the supply voltage is missing.
If this step is done I will provide some further information.

Cheers
Dirk

I just won a 6000L on ebay (woohoo!), and will want to do this. Can you tell me how much you paid for this module, and/or would this still be your current advice?

thanks

Could you document the process?  It sounds like a very good idea... but clear info would really make it more likely. I will probably take it to someone with better soldering skills than I have... and a print off of the docs and jpegs if and when they exist.

Hello

As per your request, I put the long promised explaination in the 6000 hardware forum : you just put the chip where it should be and solder it straight there. No wire no nothing. Can't be simpler.

The module cost around 40 Eur IIRC. It works like a charm. segor.de customer service is excellent - I highly recommand them.

received a question by pm:

Soldering them - I may be able to offer the service but it's too early to even know if it will be working. We will get the chip first, and see if it can work.

If it can't (that's possible) we all loose $30 and get a new chip to decorate our desks :-)
If it can, then I will try to ask a local shop to do the soldering for all of us if I can't. It's very small and I can't be sure I will suceed.

7 more people are needed.

I will try and find a surface mount soldering company here in Cambridge, it shouldn't be too hard as there are many specialist computer/electronics operations around.

Trying to revive this hijacked thread and lead it back to it's original course.

I'm very interested to get a 6000W before it becomes dinasour and extinguishes from the market. The current price from conics and streamlinecpus are too high for me > 850 shipped. I'm thinking about asking my relative in Tokyo a favor to get one for me.

The price in japan is Yen 79,421 http://www.kakaku.com/prdsearch/detail.asp...Key=00303010217 (http://www.kakaku.com/prdsearch/detail.asp?PrdKey=00303010217). As dollar is going strong against Yen recently http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?...Y&amt=1000&t=2y (http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?from=USD&to=JPY&amt=1000&t=2y), this price should correspond to $680-$700 which is enticing to me.

I do have some concerns before I buy the 6000W:
* As more and more users are moving away from 6K, how strong the 6K development will stand? Eventually, I'll set-up a dev enviroment myself, but my linux skill is not there yet.
* How soon will be sharp's next Zaurii? Will it over-shadow 6000W? If not, how soon do you expect there will be any product in the market that will put 6000W into misery in most/every category? One year, two years..., or nerver? Would 6000W become a legend that so many people desire it but only few people really touchs it.
* I've never used a clamshell. Do you guys think it's better for me to try a different flavor? Btw, I'm not particularly interested in 3100, If I skip this 6000W acquisition, I probably will go for the next clamshell model. Suppose you're given either a 3100 (or maybe the next incremental upgrade model on that) or a 6000W, which one would you choose? I'd like to listen to your opinions.
* If i get the 6000W,  I should have a nice combo: 6000W (stable) and 6000L (testing). I will probably keep the JP stock rom (fast kernel, maybe) initially and only replace it with well tested developments. So would all the 6000L development be easily translated to the JP rom 6000W?

btw, if anybody's also interested, I could ask my relative to go the extra leg of asking the group discount and if he's willing for the trouble. Btw, I'm afraid this won't happen soon. I don't know how to work out the logistics yet.
