what's the problem?

Do you use kino? Have you upgraded to the latest version?
I stopped using it, because it just messes up the power settings too bad, so this might be your problem.

This is ridiculously awesome. That and the fact that it doesn't read complex tags properly are really the only flaws kino2 has.

I have this problem too, with a C750 running Cacko 1.22a lite. I too have tried the Fn 4 solution to check it's not the backlight. This happens on both external power and battery, and certainly isn't anything to do with Kino2 as I don't have it installed...
-
The same problem with a C860/Cacko 1.22a. I'm not able to find a pattern, it happens randomly.
-
C860 just recently started shutting off after ca 10 sec without keypress or screen tap. Cacko v1.22a. Rear power button brings it back but turns off again. Very irritating.
-
I have to reboot mine (flip the battery switch, take battery out, wait, put it back in, close switch), sometimes a few times before it will come back on. The only thing I could think of that might be the problem was the screensaver, so I've disabled that for the moment to check.

Since this problem happens most often while running Kino2, I was curious as to if the OS or Kino2 were the cause.
Installed Kino2 packages under SHarp v1.40 and have not had a single crash or lock up since. YMMV.

Is there a new version out already?

Sorry to hijack this thread and bring it back to its original point, but I am still having this problem with cacko 1.22lite and a 750. Basically my zaurus can be under power or running on battery and it happens. It's like it's going into suspend mode, in that the backlight dims and it suddenly switches off, except I can be using the touchscreen at the time! Then I have to manually reboot it (battery out, battery in etc) to get it to work again.
I had set the power settings so it shouldn't do that, I thought it was the screensaver and disabled that, and it's not kino2 because I don't have that installed!
Any thoughts?
(Goes away and tries to get zaurus up and running again)
Actually this time it appears to be a bit more serious. I cannot get the zaurus to reboot, or bring up the D+M menu, with power or without. The only sign of life that I can see is that the power light comes on when I insert the power cable.
Aargh
