Title: Remotecontrol Sl-c860 (maybe Offtopic? Hardware?)
Post by: Martin on March 31, 2005, 08:14:39 am
HI all :-)

I own a Original RemoteControl for my SHARP Z SL-c860 ... I bored with this little thing (ok it works!) but this is all ... I'm really missing a little display (special using it with xmms as musicplayer) ... showing me some informations (i.e. ID3 tag, ...)

Are there some people seeing a chance to connect an other remote from a commercial mp3 player like the iRiver ones H320/340 Remote with a nice little display?

What about the connector at our loved c860 model ... I noticed that controlling speaker / earphone / mic ... input / output / remote function is "ONLY" software controlled?! Am I right? What about developing a driver for that nice iRiver remote?

http://www.forum.iriverlounge.de/viewtopic...=remote+display (http://www.forum.iriverlounge.de/viewtopic.php?t=22&highlight=remote+display)

Kleiner Adapter für den Spezialstecker an die Hörer-Buchse des c860 und den seriellen Port ... *grübel*

I will go on searching for more information on the I-Net ... giving some feedback later maybe start of next week ... I like if someone other could give some informations? Searching for any discussion done before :-)

Thanks a lot
Martin

Well, according to the link you just posted, the iRiver remote has 3 seperate connectors on it. One for sound, one for remote functions, and one for display. The Zaurus has only a single connector. If you wanted to use the iRiver remote you'd have to throw together a microcontroller hooked up to serial or USB, possibly a power supply, and the acutal earphone connector, on top of reverse-engineering the protocols to control the display in the first place.

So chances are no, unless you know an EE with a couple weeks of free time and a lab. Even if you did it would be so annoying to use on the Z (what with the bulky serial connection and adapter for the headphone controller itself) that it wouldn't be worth it anyway.

Hi kahm,

Thanks for the response ...

Yes, I know it will be not a very easy job ... I although prefered a original remote from SHARP with a small display ... but the isn't any :-(

Are there other remote controls with easier interface? I think the easiest way will be a serial, intelligent remote control ...  problem is that with display it needs an input / output interface ...

... any other usable remotes controls ?
... links to projects ?
... the bad thing on this there will be an extra case for the converter w/ microprocesor  :-( ?

Thanks
Martin

That's another thing on my list for the summer... I have a creative remote lying around, would be nice to get going. The serial port is most likely the only option for an intelligent remote, plus it has power available as well. The disadvantage is that there would be two plugs for the zaurus, one on either end which wouldn't be great... It would be damn nice to have such a remote for the zaurus though....

I have a spare 2*16 LCD lying around and i'm pretty good with pcb microcontrollers these days...  I think that winamp and others have such serial lcd plugins.   In fact, as i thinking you can get serial lcds which may be directly connectable to the serial port and completely software controlled....

Yes this is what I think too ... serial connection for data / controls in and out and a second on for audio ... but worse is one connector left side and one right side ... extra case for a intelligent converter

I will prefer using a commercial remote ... with this I think the only practical thing to do is use the original remote ...

Thanks for your feedback

Sorry I don't have any information on the remote control, it's a creative zen 20gb remote.... and i have a lovely little aiwa minidisc player remote with backlit lcd....  It would be very hard to decode the protocols though...

Most of these remotes are proprietary... The safest way maybe is to buy LCD panel with serial interface (there are some on the IT market) and try to combine it with Sharp remote scheme. And the most simple way to go (though the most expensive as well) is to buy LCD stereo bluetooth headset (e.g., as Nokia HS-12W) and try to connect it to Z. The only problems of this approach are: 1) You'll have to use BT 1.2 for stereo stream, and AFAIK there is only one CF card supporting it, and it's very rare anyway, so try USB dongles or solder them onto USB leads at Z's PCB; and 2) You'll have to write all the XMMS plugins, maybe using ALSA BT or something lika that, and hack the hardware profile and interface of this remote by yourself.
