Title: All My Network Devices Disappeared!
Post by: fader on April 08, 2005, 09:45:29 am
I was setting up MultiSync on my (Linux) machine at work.  Everything was fine... I had tested connectivity by pinging the desktop from the Z and the Z from the desktop.  I ftp'd into my Z from my desktop as one last test.  I connected and logged in, and tried an 'ls'.  At that point, boom!  Nothing else would happen.

I've been poking around and it looks like usb0 just vanished from my Z.  I can't ifconfig it up (I get "SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device") and there's no entry in /dev for it.  I'd mknod it, but I don't know the magic numbers I need.

Now here's the *really* weird thing -- eth0 is gone as well.  I normally use a CF wifi card with no problems (though it wasn't even plugged in at the time), but ever since this happened, it won't come up either.  It has all the same symptoms as the USB problem... same error and no entry in /dev.

Anyone have any ideas?  Or can someone at least tell me the right major and minor numbers for /dev/usb0 and /dev/eth0 so I can try recreating them?

Thanks!

Sorry, I missed this post - you still suffering?

Which ROM are you running, which machine and which kernel (on the Z)?

I'm having the same problem with a freshly-installed OZ 3.5.3 on a 5500. Any suggestions?

I just had a similar problem, I don't know the cause, but I couldn't connect from my Slackware Box, but I had to reboot the Z for some reason and it all came back.

It may not be the same problem but it is worth a shot.
