Title: Anyone Have Any Uk Roadmaps?
Post by: adax on April 10, 2005, 07:50:09 am
Hi.

One thing I would like to get working on my Z is a good UK map.
I don't have GPS so that doesn't need to be a priority.
The only thing I have found is zroadmap, but it only has US maps available.

Does anyone have any ideas about this sort of thing?
I know there are maps and software available for other platforms, can the Z read any of these?

Cheers,
ad.

Have a look at the new version of qpeGPS.  It has a map mode (no GPS unit required) To get started read teh instructions how to download teh (png not vector) maps.  The way I did it was to go to multipam put my Post code in.  Viewed the map got the lat/long out of it then put this as a start point which then can be used to pull maps into qpeGPS at diffrent scales so you only have the maps you need not the whole of the UK for example.

I have looked around, and find it suprising that there is no route planner for the Z that can be used in the UK.
Ideally, I'd like a route planner/GPS mapper/speed camera location device all rolled into one... shouldn't be too difficult, but the data does not seem to be available anywhere.

Speed camera data is available for download as a db:

http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php (http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php)

Route planner would be nice, but as you say the data is not readily available.
