Does anyone have 3.5.3 working on a 5600 yet?
Any issues to be concerned with at this point?
thx,
radioz

1.) OpenZaurus 3.5.3 is not out yet.
2.) There is a severe lack of people interested in poodle.
When I release 3.5.3, there will also be images for poodle but they have received 0 (in words: zero) testing. Can't do anything about that until interested people join us.

Its probably a bit late for this release, but I'd definately be willing to do some testing for Poodle releases.

I'll do what I can for testing too
Where can I go to d/l it?

I can join too - at least testing on my Poodle.

I'd be willing to test also, just point me to the goods!

3.5.3 will be out imminently, if you're all happy to look at/test it and help iron out any bugs that would be great.
I'm sure you'll see the announcement in the forum, and I'll also post a link here.
Cheers for your support,
Simon

Ok, great! Even this week? Just cannot wait any more ;-)

Well, already flashed.
Bugs that I found on 3.5.2 and are still present.
-Installing with destination other that root fails to link. Seems that installer fails to make directories and then it can not link. (Dest on SD or /home is the same)
-After installing I make an Upgrade from the Package Manager just to know what directories i must create. At this stage sometimes gpe dies and screen blocks.
I enter by ssh and a /etc/init.d/opie restart brings it to life again.
Strange enough, with 3.5.3 starting opie by ssh says this. That message was different in 3.5.2
It didn´t say from the :---: and downward.
root@dino:~# /etc/init.d/opie start
Starting Opie in 5 seconds... press key to interrupt.
You seem to already have a /home/root/Applications directory.
Assuming it is the Opie Applications directory. Exiting.
Starting Opie....

-I still had to install locales by hand. I noticed they are separated by continent now.
-Of course my socket low power Spectrum chipset CF wireless card doesn´t work :-(
-After some work with any package they start o get killed by SIGSEGV or SIGPIPE. Sounds to me like a memory problem. But adding swap doesn´t help. On the other hand, doing the same (like installing the same packages) but with ipkg in console by ssh always works. This goes away for a while rebooting
I´ll post more bugs as I find/remember them.
Thanks.

At this stage sometimes gpe dies
You mean Opie I presume.
-Installing with destination other that root fails to link. Seems that installer fails to make directories and then it can not link. (Dest on SD or /home is the same)
More info, this should be easy enough to fix.
-Of course my socket low power Spectrum chipset CF wireless card doesn´t work :-(
Hmm, how much work has been done to try to get this working? Does it work for anyone else?

I'm confused - are you saying that if you install a package using ipkg it doesn't die?
Or is the above two points - firstly that things start dying, and secondly, hmm, I can't quite work it out...
What are the apps which are dying? How much free mem is available when they die? What else are you running, etc.

Not sure if there should be a separate thread started for this, but I have a couple bugs to add:
- Sound is playing way fast (or something). Things like card insertion notices sound like a scratchy cricket chirp. Appointment alarms sound like short chirps of digital distortion (think split seconds of 'cat /boot/vmlinuz > /dev/dsp').
- Resume after suspend is hit-or-miss. If I manually suspend it (hold the Cancel key down), then try to resume, it doesn't respond. I noticed once that, after waiting nearly 10 minutes, it seemed to resume after another try, but the screen immediately went back to grey. I was able to make the Z come back on successfully by trying again immediately. If an alarm wakes it up, the alarm screech (see above) can be heard, but I can't make it stop by hitting Cancel, OK or the center pad button. I end up having to reset it from inside the battery compartment.
- The backlight is also hit-or-miss upon reboot or resume. Sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't.
- The clock doesn't hold time between reboots. I don't know how SharpROM does it. Perhaps they write the current time to flash before rebooting, and then estimate the reboot time after it comes back up, at least coming up with a good estimate time. It'd be nice if that were added in so that reboots weren't as painful.
- I can't get either opie-mediaplayer1 or opie-mediaplayer2 to install. They fail on dependencies of either missing default skin (v1) or libxine (v2). The packages don't exist in the feeds.
- GUI package manager still crashes and causes full Zaurus freezes.
Though not a bug, I did notice that I had to download some of the OZ images 2-3 times before I got the MD5sums to check out. Why are these downloads getting corrupted?
On a positive note, I finally figured out how to actually get OZ to sync with Outlook via Intellisync. Now I can finally give OZ a fair shake. Kudos to the devs on this release. I'd been checking back on openzaurus.org for weeks now for a new release, and though I still have yet to see these showstoppers resolved from 3.5.2, I'm quite impressed with the speed and look of 3.5.3.
I just wish I could figure out how to get the development environment up and running on my FC3 system so I could at least try to help out. Unfortunately I can't even seem to get a working image to compile.

No, I mean
812 root 8924 S /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/qpe -terminal 2
Now I notice that the process is called QPE. He dies.
-Installing with destination other that root fails to link. Seems that installer fails to make directories and then it can not link. (Dest on SD or /home is the same)

If you install Gaim for example that has many subdirectories on /usr/share/
ipkg fails silently to make them and on the GUI the Gaim Icon is missing.
Then I run Package Manager a do an Update just to see the directories that could not be created.
Then I mkdir them.
Then I run Update again, just to make the symlinks for each file in the newly created directories.
For example, have a look at this part of the log that Package manager gives me when Updating:
8<--8<---8<--8<---
Press the start button to begin.
loading conf file /etc/ipkg.conf
Nothing to be done
Linking packages installed in: <dest-name>
Linking packages installed in: home

Error linkling '/home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png' to '//opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png'
Error linkling '/home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/editpaste.png' to '//opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/editpaste.png'

-Of course my socket low power Spectrum chipset CF wireless card doesn´t work :-(
Hmm, how much work has been done to try to get this working? Does it work for anyone else?
How Much? I´ve surfed the whole internet from une side to the other.
I´ve found that this card needs the firmware downloaded after a reset.
The module included in OZ3.5.3 seems to fail at the memory address where it get the Hermes messages or something like that. Very weird messages. Any other module not from OZ fails to load
with unresolved symbol. It seems that Rmk made something from rmk6 to 7.
One of the spectrum_cs original developers told me that code had been included in
Orinico_cs, but I could not find it neither on the binary module nor in the sources.
No firmware downloader. (but I have could miss it, I´m not a developer)
My last hope seems to be hostap loading the firmware i got from Prosky.
http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/ (http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/)
I´ll try tomorrow.

Yes, ipkg _never_ dies.
Sometimes, specially after 2 or more packages being installed using Package Manager, it dies, sometimes SIGSEGV sometimes SIGPIPE, sometimes it takes QPE with it, but ssh stays working.
Regardin the memory use, just to boot:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: 30000 24076 5924 0 152
Opening Package Manager shows:
Mem: 30000 27560 2440 0 152
Anda actually installing something (wget):
Mem: 30000 29420 580 0 120
Mem: 30000 29248 752 0 0
Mem: 30000 28940 1060 0 0
Installing Vorbis Tools:
Mem: 30000 29344 656 0 0
815 root 14384 S packagemanager
Mem: 30000 29292 708 0 0
815 root 14552 S packagemanager
Strange enough but it didn´t die..
Normally it would have died. ;-)
Hope this helps.
I´m attaching the ipkg output log just in case.

Well, I have a theory for this.
Did you see that when pressing On/Off the syslog echoes messages from the apm events?
Seems to me that those messages stays somewhere and then at the wake up moment they
make the Z sleep again. Until the buffer empties.
Maybe I´m getting worse. I run out of pills
- The backlight is also hit-or-miss upon reboot or resume. Sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't.
Same History...
- GUI package manager still crashes and causes full Zaurus freezes.
Did you notice that if you are still able to connect by ssh?
Z is alive but QPE (the graphics "manager") is dead.
/etc/init.d/opie restart
turns the lcd on again... fully working.
I just wish I could figure out how to get the development environment up and running on my FC3 system so I could at least try to help out. Unfortunately I can't even seem to get a working image to compile.
My wish too.. there should be more documentation on this.
Did you try
http://kegel.com/crosstool/crosstool-0.31/...tool-howto.html (http://kegel.com/crosstool/crosstool-0.31/doc/crosstool-howto.html) ?
I just downloaded yesterday.
Maybe is the right tool. I don´t know.

That must be the starters give for OE.

If you install Gaim for example that has many subdirectories on /usr/share/
ipkg fails silently to make them and on the GUI the Gaim Icon is missing.
Does it fail to make them really? ipkg attempts to produce symlinks for each file all the way down to /, therefore some of them will fail (as a real directory already exists).
Or are you trying to install Gaim to a FAT formatted card?
To make the icon show up you need to restart opie (or use the QCop command to do this).
Error linkling '/home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png' to '//opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png'
Error linkling '/home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/editpaste.png' to '//opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/editpaste.png'
Perhaps because /home/opt doesn't exist - this looks like it might be a Sharp ROM package, or like it needs some tweaking. Can you give me an URL?
What fun hey? The trials and tribulations of releasing software for devices which it can't be tested on.
Keep up the bug reports, analysis and patches.

Well, it seems that the sound problem I noted earlier is limited to the builtin sounds. Opie-record works fine as well as mplayer and xmms-embedded. Anyone else noticing poor sound quality on the calendar alarm and CF/SD insert/eject notifications?

Lets imagine that you have made a /home destination that is on /dev/mtdblock3 (NAND).
Forget about SD and/or CF.
You install KaPi and it uses a file at /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png
but since dest is /home it will locate it in
/home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png
This works perfectly. Al directories under /home are created successfully and all files placed.
_BUT_ opie needs that file under /opt/QtPalmtop so a symlink must be done.
It should finish like:
/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/editpaste.png -> /home/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/reload.png
Yes?
Well, but as you have just installed KaPi then the
/opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/ and icons22/ does not exists...
So simlink fails.
After reading the log you have to
mkdir /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/
mkdir /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/kdepim/kaddressbook/icons22/
and run Update from the Package Manager for it to creat the link.
Yesterday I discovered that if you run
ipkg-link add kapi
It will link it ok.
Of course, if you are installing wget that puts the files under already existing directories, there is no problem making the symlinks.
Hope this helps
Sebastian.

Mickey already explained it is a known bug in opie.

I'd not realised that you'd set this as an installation point, sorry.
