On my C3000 I open a terminal and run "su". I have no root password set and I get the following error:
su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted
and it boots me back to the zaurus user prompt.
I have the original Sharp rom. I am guessing that some package installation has screwed something up as it worked fine last week! Any suggestions on how I fix this?
Thanks

I've still got this problem. Any chance someone could upload their /etc/group file so that I can compare it to mine.
Thanks

I´m not sure if this is what you want (i'm a linux n00b):
The root password is what you have to type to access your Zaurus if you put the lock on it when it turns back on.
if you can tell me what the filename is, i can try to send it to you when i get home.

Thanks for posting this, still no joy for me, same error. I am going to try one of the new roms (OZ or Cacko) now.
cheers

If you haven't already changed you may want to just check the ownership and permission set on /etc/passwd and /etc/group... respectively they are (Sharp ROM).
-rw-r--r-- root:root /etc/passwd
-rw-rw-r-- root:root /etc/group

Thanks for the suggestion, mine are both owned by user zaurus, but with group root.

They should certainly be owned by root.
I would try changing that first and see if that gets rid of your problem. Many of the security bits actively check ownership to make sure files haven't been tampered with.

Did that...same result. Thanks anyway, I'm going to try your new Cacko soon, only got an SD card this morning. I have been following its progress closely but I am trying to decide whether to wait for the next version or jump straight in now!
Cheers

If you want to try soon I would use the beta1.
I'm not throwing out complete updates every week since that would certainly annoy people because of the need to reinstall everything on each new install. (please read the README file).
There are some quickfix things being posted (just added the Battery/Overclock applet) and when we nail some of the more serious issues like euroclie's GPRS card issue then we will think about a beta2 etc.
