Title: how many dead pixels are normal?
Post by: weili1977 on January 20, 2004, 10:59:55 pm
I just noticed there are around 10 dead pixels on the screen, though they are small and most of them are almost invisible. Should I return it for a new one?

Yes.  IMO you should return it.  Some think 1 or 2 dead pixels are ok, but I won\'t tolerate any dead pixels on any LCD product I buy.

weili,

Where did you buy the Zaurus?  Have you also noticed any dust under the screen?

So there could be dust under the screen? Then it\'s terrible since I saw a lot dust!

In a ob interview the other day, a perspective employer actualy asked me how manytime per month i felt it was okay to be late for work, the answer isthe same.  If you have even 1 dea pixel return the damn thing.  They are too expensive to put up with that garbage.

I\'ve got 1 dead pixel, but I fear that I may get a PXA250 processor (instead of a PXA255) if I return it to Amazon.  By the way, it shipped from Amazon\'s warehouse in Campbellsvile, KY, so I would imagine that Zaurii shipped from there may be PXA255 versions.

What? My SL-5600 was also shipped from that place. And I\'m living in Kentucky!! I\'m pretty sure I got a PXA250 processor, really bad luck. So I\'ll return the item and reorder a new one!! Hope it\'s the new PXA255 one!

I would have to agree with this. I have a newer laptop and it has 1 bad pixel right in the middle of the display, it drives me crazy when I watch a movie. Problem is the manufacture doesn\'t recognize it as a problem. I have tried using this example of an employee being late / no show but they don\'t buy it stating so we have back up\'s to cover and that I\'m comparing apples to oranges. So be it, I\'ll never buy another laptop from that company.

I have a counter argument for you!

Oranges a sour when they're ripe, but an apple is supposed to be sweet. You're comparing them because that TFT display is a Sour apple. It's not ripe. So they're going to give you your money back, or you're going to cram your Sour, maggot-ridden apple up their tight executive. . . . .

Et hemm.

generally speaking many lcd panel manufacturer's warranty allow for about 3 dead pixels before replacement.  I've had up to two on a Z out of the four Zs I've owned.  10 is definitely too many for a lower res screen.

It is sometimes possible to recover a fixed colour pixel with a cartoon movie. Rapidly changing saturated colours will sometimes do it. I don't think black ones will ever get better.
