Title: New Tetsu Kernel - V17i For 3000 & V18 For 1000
Post by: russell on April 26, 2005, 04:03:39 am
Hi all,
I don't know if anyone has noticed but a new kernel is available from the Tetsu website:
http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/ (http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/)

Although the English part of the page hadn't been updated when I looked, the links to the new Kernels from the Japanese page are available:

SL-C3000 special kernel (v17i): http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v...-v17i-C3000.bin (http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v18/zImage-v17i-C3000.bin)

SL-C1000 special kernel (v18):
http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v...e-v18-C1000.bin (http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v18/zImage-v18-C1000.bin)

Has anyone used these yet? Noticed any differences, improvements?

I've used the C1000 kernel as basis for the (future) oz kernel. Used with sharp's rom, and with the battery applet linked from tetsu's page, overclocking now works. Even without overclocking, everything seems faster, maybe it's because he has preempt enabled.

AFAIK, it doesn't have preemption enabled.

WMMX patch breaks gdb. It changes pt_regs structure used by ptrace syscall.

will upgrading to this kernel break the new bluez alpha 4 modules made by tumnus?

is this worth the upgrade compared to sharp v1.11 rom?

Guys it's not a good idea to link just to the Kernel downloads on Tetsu's page. I know it's Japanese but the best thing to do is to link to the page and allow people to read the current information.

There's already an 18a Kernel which is unified for the 3000 and 1000 so the 17x links on this thread are out of date.

There's also an IPK that is supposed to be installed when you install this Kernel so that any patched Kernel Modules get replaced too. This IPK contains all the Bluez modules but not any Bluez scripts or utils.

So to answer the previous question, once the new kernel is installed then the IPK should be intalled from this site that matches the Kernel version. I haven't tested this with Tumnus' scripts and utils though.

Ive used the english version of the site and downloaded the correct files for the C3000 (18a).

However, Im a bit lost on the english translation of tetsu's site.... it doesnt make much sense to me. Can someone tell me the process of doing the kernel upgrade?

cheers,
Devon

- I'm looking at tetsu's kernel to see if BT will work on the C1000, since it doesn't appear to be working otherwise.  Unfortunately, I can't get to the site.  It keeps saying "connection refused", which makes me wonder what's up with that, when so many others appear to be able to reach it.
- I actually have a d/l of this kernel from somewhere, but like iamasmith says, I wanted to go to the site directly to see what I could see.  I'm not really hot on the idea of just loading this on a CF and stuffing it in there, then hope for the best.
- If anyone A) has files and instructions to get 18a on a C1000 or B) knows how I can get this information straight from tetsu, I'd be happy to give it a go.  As it stands BT is plain dead in the water (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12594 for info) ...
