Title: Sd Card Won't Stay In
Post by: gbrocks on April 27, 2005, 04:46:31 am
I have a Zaurus SL-C860. I've been using an SD card for months, and taking it out occassionally to back it up using a card reader; no problems. Just now I took it out, and now when I try to put it back in, it goes in all the way, but it doesnt click into place, and so it pops back out (part way). So I can't get it to physically be "seated" properly. Does anyone know of a way to fix this, or do I have to send the unit back to Dynamism (where I purchased it)?

A friend of mine has an 860 on the way back from Japan after warranty service for this issue. I don't know how serious it was, because he wouldn't let me take it apart to look...

How long did the repair take? Where did your friend purchase the Zaurus? I purchased my unit from Dynamism. At the time they told me a repair would take 3-4 days using FedEx Recue service to get it to Japan, get it repaired, and get it back to me. Now they say 3-4 weeks. Dynamism also says that they are not sure Hardware failures will be covered under their warranty, because they are not sure if Sharp will cover Hardware failures! (what else would be covered since both Sharp & Dynamism sell only hardware!!!). Was your friends unit covered by warranty?

It was purchased at a retail store in Japan, ~6months ago. The fellow who got it for us was still there, so we sent it to him, and he sent it in for repair. The unit was covered under warranty, taking exactly 2 weeks from pick-up to drop off. We're currently waiting on getting it sent back from Japan to Canada.

Sharp may not cover hardware failures if it seems that it was something outside of normal wear and tear that caused it. For example, a fault with the physical locking mechanism for the SD card is *very* different than a fault with a memory chip. You can't really abuse a memory chip, but you can do something to the SD card slot.

That being said, I suspect the SD slot on these things is delicate, and I treat mine like gold...

I had the same problem with my SL-C860. My SD-Card wouldn't stay in. I red in a forum that sometimes a spring in the Zaurus gets stuck. You just have to reinsert your SD-Card often enough and try to move it around a little to eventually make it work correctly again. Took me about half an hour...

If this doesn't work then you could try following my instructions (at your own risk) to unjam the slot in this [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11705]thread[/url].

I decided that it was too much hassle to send my zaurus back without at leaste trying to fix it myself.  In the end it turned out to be a very easy problem to fix.
