Title: SanDisk WiFi + 128mb CF card users?
Post by: ephilli2 on January 21, 2004, 01:00:36 pm
Has anyone used the SanDiskConnectâ„¢ Plus 128MB+ Wi-Fi CompactFlash?  Are both the networking and storage recognized?  I\'m planning on purchasing a WiFi card and thought this would be a good option.  I don\'t own a CF storage card (I use SD in my camera), but I plan on getting a CF card so I can flash a new rom.  Can I flash a new rom using this card?  Are there any quirks to using the card?

Oh, I forgot to mention:  I have a recently purchased refurb 5500 from tigerdirect.  I\'m using Sharp 3.10.
Here is a link to the manufacturer and also at buy.com

There have been several threads on this subject, but I don\'t think anybody has got it working.

AFAIK the memory bit is fairly proprietry and possibly mounts as some sort of nfs type mount, accessible over the wifi card part only.

If this is correct then you will not be able to flash from it (the memory part), and may need some new software (ie write it yourself) just to access it.

Peter.

I own that WiFi + 128Mb card, but when I put it in my Zaurus SL-C860, nothing happens.
\'cardctrl ident\' says it\'s a sandisk network card, but that\'s all I can do with it atm (i.e. neither part of the card seems to work). However I\'ve heard someone mention he got the network light blinking, but I haven\'t seen that happen with mine yet (possibly because I haven\'t been to an Access Point yet?) Asking SanDisk about it, they said it didn\'t work in Linux, but they did have the normal CF WiFi card that does work in Linux. I heard someone else mention that he\'d spoken to a SanDisk person who told him they did have the WiFi part working, but I asked SanDisk about that and they haven\'t replied... In short, it doesn\'t work (yet)

I got the wi-fi part working when I had that card by making some changes to some wlang.cfg file (I think...cannot really remember...sorry) but I could not get it to work for the memory part. I wanted to be able to at least use it as memory OR as wi-fi since both at the same time seemed impossible..but did not have any luck...so I sold it and got a Socket and some SD cards instead.

There\'s talk regarding that card at length on both http://www.zaurus.com/dev/board (http://www.zaurus.com/dev/board) and http:/ww.externe.net/zaurus/forum

You should be able to find them by searching on some combination of wifi/wireless and sandisk iirc.  From the indications that I saw, the card was not compatible, but SanDisk wasn working on a resolution last anyone heard...

Today I received the reply from SanDisk. This is what they said:

Hello,

Our developers are working to get support for the Connect Plus card for Linux based operating systems, however, at technical support, we have not been provided with any updates at the moment.  There will be some support for the Connect Plus on Linux in the future.  Please check our web site periodically as we will post any information concerning this support,  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

I haven\'t looked at the links mentioned above yet, will do this weekend

THis is what Sandisk had told me back in September \'03. I think it is pretty much standard verbage.

Hi all,

I also post my problem to other discussion but since I could run SanDisk as CF, I would like to share it with you too. Maybe someone who run WiFi part may help me

I accidentally work the CF part out by adding \"sandiskconnectplus.conf\" under /etc/pcmcia. in the .conf file just add \"cardctl ident\" command results and CF part works. but I could not make wireless card run even I tried everything I saw throughout the forums ( adding entry to wlan-ng.conf, killing cardmgr.pid afterwards, and etc...) . Hope this helps, thanks!

maybe bad news; maybe consolation:

The poor Palm T3 folks have been waiting almost a year for sandisk to produce a driver for the sdio wifi.  It probably destroyed Palm over Xmas. It must be a political thing. To what end I can\'t figure out.

Dear all,

I have set up a dedicated forum to discuss and archive all efforts for developing a working driver for the SanDisk ConnectPlus card. It is not at all meant to replace this ZUG discussion.

The forum is located at:

Please feel free to join and support!

Making the Memory part working can be done by adding a config file as described in the HowTos at http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...%20Connectivity (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=802.11b%20Connectivity)

Do you see any chance to remember/trace back what you have done?

In theory it should not be able to work at all as the Zaurus comes with a prism2_cs driver and the ConnectPlus card uses a Prism3 chipset. But they might be reasonably compatible so that it is only a matter of proper settings.
